The standings will be updated as event results are processed.AWARDSA light blue participation ribbon will the awarded to each dog that completes the Fast CAT 100 yards.The FAST CAT is a timed straight race of 100 yards where a dog chases a lure. Dogs are run singularly and earn points based on their handicapped speed. There are no placements. Titles are issued at designated benchmarks. The dog’s time to complete the 100 yard dash is converted into MPH. Dogs earn points based on their handicapped speed. A handicap system is applied to a dog’s MPH to determine the number of points earned. The handicap system is based on the height of the dog at its withers:18” or greater = handicap is 1.012” up to less than 18” = handicap is 1.5Below 12” = handicap is 2.0Points = MPH multiplied by the dog’s handicap100 YARD DASH TIME CONVERTED TO MILES PER HOURA dog’s 100- yard dash time must be converted into MPH using theformula below, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a mile:Dog’s time = MPHExample: The dog’s time is 8.14 seconds 204.54/ 8.14 = 25.13 MPHThe Start:Dogs may start up to 10 feet behind the starting lineThe Finish:The club will provide a safe run out area, with a minimum of 30 yards. This also applies to cleaning up after your dog at the hotel/motel grounds.WHAT MUST MY DOG DO TO PASS A Fast CAT?Fast CAT, unlike the CAT, is not a pass/fail, but a timed 100 yard dash after a lure past a start line and over a finish line. Hand held stop watches will be used to time the dog. The time is converted to MPH and then multiplied by a potential handicap based on the dog’s height to award points.CAN MY DOG EARN AN AKC TITLE FOR Fast CAT?Titles are earned by accumulating points. The following titles will be awarded:BCAT =150 points; DCAT = 500 points; FCAT = 1,000 points; and FCAT followed by a number (e.g. FCAT2) for every additional 500 points. These suffix titles will appear on a dog’s pedigree, with a higher level title superseding a lower level title.TIPS FOR HANDLERSThe field is fenced. However, it is strongly recommended that prior to running your dog, you have good “recall” control over your dog, as the dogs will be off leash.2. Handlers should wear comfortable, sturdy shoes (no sandalsor flip flops, please!) and be physically able to hold and release their dogs, as well as catch them.3. Handlers may carry toys or treats on their persons to assist with retrieving their dog at the completion of their run.4. Dogs will be brought to the start line on leash and released only upon a verbal signal (“Tally-Ho!”) from the Huntmaster, Dogs may be released by hand, folded leash or using a traditional lure coursing slip lead.5. The Huntmaster will instruct the handler to “Retrieve your dog”upon completion of the run. The handler is expected to promptly secure the dog and leave the field with the dog on leash.6. Handlers are advised to warm up their dogs prior to their runand walk them for about 10 minutes afterwards.7. Lure coursing is a physically demanding sport so please makesure your dog is in good shape. If you are not sure, make an appointment with a veterinarian to get an opinion.8. Any person, upon reasonable complaint, may be asked toleave the grounds of the test by the Field Committee and maybe disciplined by the AKC. Children must be under control oftheir parents or guardian(s) at all times. Neither Shasta Kennel Club (SKC) nor its members, will be responsible for any accidents at these coursing ability tests.ALL DOGS RUN AT OWNER’S SOLE RISKThe field has no shade and will have a temporary fence in place along one side. It is fenced on the other 3 sides. Please bring your own shade, raingear, chairs, and water.All entries must be 12 months of age or older on the day of the test.Each dog requires an individual entry form for each event in which it is entered. Entries will not be accepted without fees, signatures, or the “Agreement” found on the Official AKC Entry Form Bitches in season and lame dogs will be excused. In service to this responsibility, he/she has the authority to stop the lure in any potentially dangerous situation and signal the handler to retrieve a testing dog.Persons who exhibit conduct detrimental to the AKC/SKC/any dog(s)/other person(s) will be asked to leave the trial site.Any person, upon reasonable complaint, may be asked to leave the grounds of the field trial by the Field Committee and may be disciplined by the AKC. Children must be under control of their parent(s) or guardian(s) at all times.No entry fees will be refunded if the event cannot be started or completed by reason of riots, civil disturbances, fire, extreme and/or dangerous weather conditions, an act of God, public emergency, act of a public enemy, strikes or any other cause beyond the control of the Club or its members and representatives.The event hosting club (Shasta Kennel Club), Shasta District Fairgrounds, its agents, members, representatives, volunteers, etc, assume no liability or responsibility for any loss, damage or injury sustained by exhibitors, handlers, or to any of their dogs or property and further assumes no responsibility for injury to children or spectators before, during, or after this event.The field committee reserves the right to bar known aggressive dogs from the event site.
