290-3-3-.45.1 Reading Specialist (P-12)
SUBSTANCE OF PROPOSED ACTION: The proposed amendments to rules listed below will strengthen the preparation of all teachers to provide effective reading instruction that is appropriate to their subject areas and the grade levels of their students: 290-3-3-.04 Professional Studies, Basic Programs 290-3-3-.05 Early Childhood Education (Grades P-3) 290-3-3-.06 Elementary Education (Grades K-6) 290-3-3-.07 Middle-Level Teaching Options (Grades 4-8) 290-3-3-.10 English Language Arts 290-3-3-.35 Collaborative el Teacher (Grades (K-6) 290-3-3-.36 Collaborative Teacher (Grades (6-12) The proposed new rule' 290-3-3-.45.1 Reading Specialist (P-12) will establish guidelines for a new teacher preparation program that will prepare individuals to remediate students who are reading below grade level and to assist teachers to provide effective reading instruction for all students.
TIME, PLACE AND MANNER FOR PRESENTING VIEWS: A public hearing will be held at 9:30 a.m., December 9, 1999, Auditorium, Plaza Level, Gordon Persons Building, 50 North Ripley Street, Montgomery, Alabama. All persons wishing to express their views should contact the State Superintendent of Education (334-242-9700) no later than December 8, 1999, in order to be scheduled on the agenda. All persons wishing to express their views in writing to the State Board of Education should address all written comments to the State Superintendent of Education, Gordon Persons Building, P. 0. Box 302101, Montgomery, Alabama 36130-2101.
