SYNOPSIS:

Jake (Jason Sudeikis) and Lainey (Alison Brie) impulsively lose their virginity to each other in college.  When their paths cross twelve years later in New York City, they realize they both have become serial cheaters.  Bonding over their chronic commitment issues, they form a platonic friendship to support each other in their quests for healthy romantic relationships.

A Q&A with SLEEPING WITH OTHER PEOPLE Director Leslye Headland

How did you decide SLEEPING WITH OTHER PEOPLE would be your writing/directing follow-up to BACHELORETTE?

SLEEPING WITH OTHER PEOPLE came to me while I was on vacation in San Francisco. I went there to write, and these characters and their stories just poured out of me. I knew it was the next project for me because it was extremely personal. I wanted to challenge myself not only to write about my past heartache, but to try and revitalize the romantic comedy for a modern generation.

SLEEPING WITH OTHER PEOPLE isn’t your typical romantic comedy is it?

It really isn't. People trash talk the Rom Com, but it's one of the oldest cinematic genres with stellar origins like TWENTIETH CENTURY or TROUBLE IN PARADISE. I think as audiences lost their innocence the genre lost its suspense. To create suspense you need obstacles. It's really about giving characters in a Rom-Com true obstacles that very few people ever overcome: their own behavior and their past.   

How did Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie become involved with the film?

Jason Sudeikis was an easy cast. I went up to him at a party and said "I have a part for you.” That same week we met up and talked for hours. When Jason talks to you, it's like you're the only person who ever existed. He's a major charmer, and that's Jake to a tee. He was made for the part. A total leading man.

Alison Brie's character, Lainey, was harder to cast because I felt like we were casting me. I was so close to the character. But when Allie auditioned, this vulnerability poured out of her and I knew we had found Lainey. She's an incredible actress, we all just fell in love with her. 

Tell us about Jason and Alison’s characters Jake and Lainey.

The Jake and Lainey we meet at the beginning of the story, during their days at Columbia, are so different than the people they become. They lost their virginity to each other, and then ten years later, we dive into these characters of these complex adults, really seeing how sex and intimacy have materialized for them on their separate paths. Lainey is a serial cheater who can't get over one man. He's a drug to her. He's everything to her and she can't let it go. Jake has evolved from a late bloomer to a charming womanizer. He can get anyone to sleep with him, but he’s completely terrified of getting his heart broken. He never sleeps with a woman he would care about losing.

You have assembled such a great ensemble cast, tell us about that.

Jason Mantzoukas plays Jake's best friend, Xander, and he is probably one of the most hilarious beings on the planet. The chemistry he has with his on-screen wife, played by Andrea Savage, is crazy stupid funny. Natasha Lyonne and I are friends in real life – not Hollywood life – so she was just down for anything. And of course, Adam Scott and I worked together on BACHELORETTE. People will definitely be surprised by what a creep he is in this movie. Adam is such a gifted actor, it played very well. Other members of the ensemble – Amanda Peet, Katherine Waterston, Adam Brody, Billy Eichner. I mean, come on. We were blessed with such a stellar cast. They're unreal.

What was it like shooting the film in New York City?

New York City is my home. It's so romantic, it can't help itself. Shooting is difficult in New York, but so worth it. We had to stop a few times to let the sound of the subway rumbling underneath the actors pass, but other than that, what's not to love about New York?

About the Filmmakers

LESLYE HEADLAND (Writer/Director) In 2012, Headland broke out in features, when she made her directorial debut with another of her plays, BACHELORETTE, starring Kirsten Dunst, Rebel Wilson, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan, James Marsden, and Adam Scott. The film had its world premiere at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and went on to become one of the most successful VOD releases to date.  Following the success of “Bachelorette,” Headland’s next script, ABOUT LAST NIGHT, was immediately greenlit by Screen Gems.  NIGHT starred Kevin Hart and Michael Ealy, directed by Steve Pink was released in February 2014. The film grossed over $50 million domestically.

Headland started her writing for the theater, with such plays as BACHELORETTE (Second Stage), “Assistance” (Playwrights Horizons), and the rest of the “Seven Deadly Plays” series (IAMA Theatre Company).  Several of these plays would later serve as the basis for her film and television projects.

Headland holds a BFA in Drama from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. 

SIDNEY KIMMEL (Producer) is a veteran producer and Chairman and CEO of Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, the Los Angeles-based motion picture financing and production company.

Active in the motion picture industry for more than 27 years, Kimmel’s passion as an independent producer throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s eventually led to the founding of Sidney Kimmel Entertainment in October 2004. The Company develops, finances and produces three to five features per year, working with esteemed filmmaking talent to create quality, commercial films.

Born in 1928, Sidney Kimmel grew up in Philadelphia during the Great Depression.  After two tours of duty in the Army and a brief stint at Temple University, Sidney took his first jobs in the garment business as an inventory clerk then a traveling salesman for a women’s wear manufacturer.  By 1959, he had joined Villager as a knitwear designer, rising to the position of president and CEO within a decade.  Soon Mr. Kimmel parlayed his instincts for style, design and business into his own clothing line, Jones New York, targeting the young, fashion-conscious career women of the era.  The company grew into one of the leading designers and marketers of branded apparel, footwear and accessories in the New York fashion industry and came to include many recognizable brands, among them Nine West, Anne Klein, Stuart Weitzman, Joan & David, Gloria Vanderbilt, Barneys New York and Kurt Geiger.  Mr. Kimmel stepped down as Jones’ CEO in 2003, remaining as its Chairman until 2014 when Sycamore Partners bought it for nearly $2.2 billion.

 

In 1993, Kimmel established the Sidney Kimmel Foundation, and soon thereafter, its subsidiary the Sidney Kimmel Foundation for Cancer Research.  Of the more than $850 million given away by the Foundation, nearly two-thirds has been dedicated to cancer research, making Sidney Kimmel one of the largest individual donors to cancer research in the nation.  In addition to establishing cancer centers at Johns Hopkins and Memorial Sloan Kettering, Kimmel has also founded the Kimmel Scholars Program, providing grants to the youngest, cutting edge cancer researchers at the outset of their careers, and now numbering more than 250 recipients, forming the next generation of cancer researchers.  Also, Mr. Kimmel has made the lead gifts to a number of important civic and religious institutions in his hometown of Philadelphia, including those to establish the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, a 3000 seat multi-theatre complex anchoring the City’s performing arts network, the National Museum of American Jewish History on Independence Mall, and most recently, a $110 million gift to Thomas Jefferson University in support of its medical college, now called the Sidney Kimmel Medical College.

Kimmel and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment co-financed and produced or co-produced more than

40 motion pictures since its inception. Among its productions are, in association with Universal Pictures, the Academy Award nominated UNITED 93 directed by Paul Greengrass, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his direction of the film, as well as the critical hit BREACH, starring Chris Cooper, Ryan Phillippe and Laura Linney.

Kimmel recently executive produced Sony’s MONEYBALL, and produced the hit thriller THE LINCOLN LAWYER, starring Matthew McConaughey, Marisa Tomei, Ryan Phillippe and William H. Macy, in association with Lakeshore Entertainment for release by Lions Gate Entertainment.

The Company recently produced THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES, directed by Derek Cianfrance, starring Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes, released via Focus Features. Kimmel produced the film.

JESSICA ELBAUM (Producer) is an Emmy and Tony Award nominated producer who has worked with Gary Sanchez Productions since the company was founded in 2006 by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. She has served as a producer on several of the company's feature films, including Step Brothers, The Other Guys, Casa De Mi Padre, and BACHELORETTE; the last of which broke records with its innovative video-on-demand release.  In 2008, she was instrumental in bringing Will Ferrell's one-man show "You're Welcome America" to Broadway for an exclusive run where it broke attendance records.  In 2013, she produced the Paramount feature Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, directed by Adam McKay, as well as the independent film Welcome To Me, starring Kristen Wiig, which premiered at the 2014 Toronto Film Festival.  In early 2014, she founded Gloria Sanchez Productions, the sister label of Gary Sanchez, which focuses on female-driven film and TV.  

ADAM McKAY (Producer) is a filmmaker and producer who has written and directed the comedy features ANCHORMAN, TALLADEGA NIGHTS, STEP BROTHERS, THE OTHER GUYS, and, most recently, ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES.  Next up for McKay is an adaption of Michael Lewis’ bestselling book The Big Short about the 2008 financial collapse.

Through Gary Sanchez Productions, which he founded with Will Ferrell, McKay produced TAMMY, THE CAMPAIGN, HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS, and Leslye Hedland’s first feature BACHELORETTE.

His upcoming producing projects include WELCOME TO ME, GET HARD, DADDY’S HOME and HANSEL AND GRETEL 2.

McKay is a co-founder of the comedy website Funny or Die.  He started writing and performing at Second City Theater in Chicago and was a co-founder of the Upright Citizen's Brigade before going on to become head writer at “Saturday Night Live.”   He is also a frequent contributor to the Huffington Post.

WILL FERRELL (Executive Producer) has come a long way since his days on “Saturday Night Live,” crossing over from television icon to motion picture star, producer and internet pioneer.

Most recently Ferrell wrapped production on the Warner Bros. comedy, GET HARD. Directed by Etan Cohen, GET HARD is set to release in theaters March 27, 2015.  In 2013, Ferrell reprised his role as Ron Burgundy, the character he made famous in Paramount Pictures’ 2004 comedy, ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGUNDY.  Ferrell co-wrote both films with director Adam McKay under their Gary Sanchez production shingle and ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGUNDY has earned over $172 million worldwide to date.  The following year, Ferrell lent his voice to the character of “Lord Business” in the Warner Bros. animated film, THE LEGO MOVIE, which has gone on to earn over $441 million in the worldwide box office.

 

Ferrell is now filming DADDY’S HOME for Paramount, directed by Sean Anders and John Morris. DADDY’S HOME centers on a modest suburban businessman looking to be the best stepdad possible to his new wife’s children just as their reckless and heroic birth father, played by Mark Wahlberg, comes back into their lives.

 

Ferrell’s many previous film credits include Warner Brother’s THE CAMPAIGN, the ambitious CASA DE MI PADRE (which Ferrell served as producer and also starred as the lead), ELF, ZOOLANDER, TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY, OLD SCHOOL, and the screen adaptation of THE PRODUCERS, which earned him his first Golden Globe nomination in 2006 for Best Supporting Actor. In 2007, Ferrell earned his second Golden Globe nomination (Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical) for his portrayal of IRS agent Harold Crick in STRANGER THAN FICTION.

 

Ferrell earned a 2009 Tony Award nomination for his Broadway debut, headlining the sold-out, Tony Award-nominated one-man comedy show “Will Ferrell: You're Welcome America.” “A Final

Night with George W Bush,” directed by Adam McKay, in which he perfected his infamous “Saturday Night Live” characterization of President Bush. At the end of its Broadway run, Ferrell

performed the show, live, in its entirety on HBO, earning a pair of Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Comedy Special and Outstanding Writing.

 

In 2007, Ferrell and McKay founded the overwhelmingly popular and award-winning video website . With hundreds of exclusive celebrity videos and a steady stream of huge viral hits, Funny Or Die has become the “place to be seen” for comedic celebrities, and the obvious destination for a daily comedy fix. The site's first video, “The Landlord,” has received over 81 million views and features Ferrell confronted by a swearing, beer-drinking two-year-old landlord. The site averages over 20 million unique visitors per month and over 60 million page views per month.

 

Soon thereafter, Ferrell and McKay joined forces to open their own production company, Gary Sanchez Productions. Thus far, Gary Sanchez supported the 2006 Sundance hit THE FOOT FIST WAY starring Danny McBride (TROPIC THUNDER), who also co-wrote with director Hill, THE GOODS: LIVE HARD, SELL HARD starring Jeremy Piven, and STEP BROTHERS which earned over $100 million domestically. Gary Sanchez also produced the HBO series “Eastbound & Down” starring McBride.

 

Ferrell starred for seven seasons on NBC’s seminal late-night hit “Saturday Night Live,” after taking the nation by storm during the show’s “Indecision 2000,” with his portrayal of President

George W. Bush. Some of his most memorable “Saturday Night Live” characters include Craig the Spartan Spirit Cheerleader, musical middle school teacher Marty Culp, and Bush. Among his many impressions were Janet Reno, Alex Trebek, Neil Diamond and the late, great Chicago Cubs sportscaster Harry Caray. His work on “Saturday Night Live” earned two Emmy nominations in 2001 (Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program, and Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program).

JIM TAUBER (Executive Producer) has been the President at Sidney Kimmel Entertainment (SKE) for the past 10 years. A seasoned veteran, Tauber has extensive experience working on both studio and independent productions. 

At SKE he has overseen the company’s financing, production and distribution of 25 films, including LARS AND THE REAL GIRL, SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK, and THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES.

Tauber joined SKE after a three-year stint at Twentieth Century Fox, where he was Worldwide Executive Vice President, Acquisitions & Co-productions.  He formerly served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Anonymous Content, helping to found and manage the multimedia company.  Tauber segued to Anonymous from Propaganda Films where, during his tenure as President and COO, he oversaw the production of more than 1000 music videos, 700 commercials and 30 feature films including David Fincher’s THE GAME and Spike Jonze’s BEING JOHN MALKOVICH.  While at Propaganda he also helped to create the theatrical distribution company Gramercy for Polygram. 

From 1983-91, Tauber was Executive Vice President of Legal and Business Affairs and Acquisitions for Columbia/Tri-Star Pictures, responsible for structuring and negotiation for all home video, television and theatrical acquisition and sales agreements, as well as the production of over fifty films including Sex, Lies And Videotape, and ONE FALSE MOVE.

CARLA HACKEN (Executive Producer) is President of Production at Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, the Los Angeles-based wholly independent finance and production company focused on bringing high profile, quality entertainment projects to contemporary audiences in association with studio distribution partners. Hacken, who oversees all of the Company’s film and television activities, joined SKE in March 2014, bringing with her a wealth of experience and remarkable track record of collaborating with the industry’s top talent.

Prior to joining SKE, Hacken, one of the film industry’s most respected executives, notably spent 15 years at Fox 2000. She was originally hired by Laura Ziskin as Sr. Vice President of Production and ultimately served as the company’s Executive Vice President of Production. During her tenure she oversaw the development and production of numerous motion pictures, including WALK THE LINE, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, UNFAITHFUL, IN HER SHOES, THE FAMILY STONE, and both THE DIARY OF A WIMPY KID, and PERCY JACKSON franchises, among many others.

Hacken segued from Fox 2000 to New Regency Productions in 2012, where she served as President of Production. In early 2013 Hacken launched Paper Pictures, her own production company that had a first look production deal with DreamWorks. Under her first look deal at DreamWorks in the last year, Hacken set up the non-fiction book proposal The Noble Assassin along with Michael Sugar and Anonymous Content, with Cary Fukanaga (“True Detective”) attached to produce and direct, and Scott Silver (THE FIGHTER) penning the adaptation; Eleanor and Park, the best-selling and award winning YA novel being adapted by author Rainbow Rowell, and the science fiction trilogy Fire Sermon.

Among other projects Hacken has been developing under her Paper Pictures banner include the Lionsgate thriller THE LEAVES, which she will produce along with Gotham Chopra. 

Hacken folded some of her Paper Picture Projects into the SKE slate including “Busted,” a limited series television project based on the a police crime thriller written by Wendy Ruderman and Barbara Laker. David Frankel (THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, MARLEY & ME, HOPE SPRINGS, “Band of Brothers,” “Entourage”) is attached to direct and executive produce the pilot. Sarah Jessica Parker (“Sex and the City”) is attached to star in one of the two main leading roles. Don Roos (“Web Therapy,” MARLEY & ME) is writing the series. SEUSS, the Jonathon Stewart/Eyal Podell’s “black list” script with Steve Chov ((Wallflower) attached to direct, and Delicious, the film adaption of the first novel from New York Times best-selling non-fiction writer Ruth Reichl.

Prior to her tenure at Fox 2000, Hacken was a talent agent at ICM in the Motion Picture Talent Department where, over nearly 10 years, she built a prestigious client roster of actors, writers, and directors who worked across all aspects of the entertainment industry. Hacken graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature and Dramatic Creative Writing.

DYLAN TARASON (Co-Producer) is currently Senior Vice President of Production at Sidney Kimmel Entertainment (SKE). At SKE, Tarason oversaw the 2012 Focus Features release of Derrek Cianfrance’s THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES, starring Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes.

Tarason’s wide-ranging experience in film production includes his tenure as Executive in Charge of Production for Gold Circle Films (2006-2009), a production company with first-look deals at Universal Pictures and Lionsgate Entertainment. At GCF he oversaw production on eight feature films, shot throughout the world, as well the development of more than thirty other projects. His productions include THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT, starring Virginia Madsen, THE 4TH KIND, starring Milla Jovovich and BLOOD CREEK, starring Michael Fassbender and Henry Cavill.

In 2009, Tarason created Sol Media Inc., a multimedia consultant company. Tarason’s clients include Film Finances, Inc., International Film Guarantors, Gold Circle Films, FilmNation and numerous other independent Producers, Directors and Writers.

Prior to Gold Circle Films, Tarason spent five years with Sandstorm Films, an independent production company with a first-look deal at Sony Screen Gems, where he managed and supervised ten feature films from conception to delivery.

Early in his career, Tarason served on the board of directors of the Company of Angels, Los Angeles’ oldest repertory Theater Company, and developed toys and apparel for The Walt Disney Company-branded properties.

Tarason received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Northern Arizona University.

BEN KUTCHINS (Director of Photography) is a lauded cinematographer whose first feature film, BOMB THE SYSTEM, was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award. Reviewing Kutchins’ work on BOMB THE SYSTEM, Stephen Holden of the New York Times wrote, “The splendid cinematography by Ben Kutchins evokes a downscale New York answer to the icy Los Angeles noir of Michael Mann, but on a minuscule budget and with passion to spare."

Before his feature film debut, Kutchins worked professionally as a still photographer at Lucasfilm's Industrial Light and Magic. A 35mm still camera in his hands since the age of 13, he has always felt most at home behind the lens.

Kutchins has shot numerous features including HOLY ROLLERS, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010 as well as the 2011 Fox Searchlight Pictures release THE ART OF GETTING BY.

His recent projects include THE LONGEST WEEK, a romantic comedy starring Jason Bateman and Olivia Wilde; LUCKY THEM starring Toni Collete and Johnny Depp; Veronica Mars with Kristen Bell;10,000 SAINTS with Ethan Hawke and Hailee Steinfeld; and SLEEPING WITH OTHER PEOPLE with Jason Sudeikis and Amanda Peet.

He currently splits his time between New York and Los Angeles.

AMY WILLIAMS (Production Designer) grew up just outside of Detroit, Michigan. A non-stop artist, she drew and painted from her youth all the way into college, where she complimented her artistic abilities with a degree in Art History.

Shortly after graduating, she began her career in New York City managing and curating galleries, including Stephan Stux and Leo Koenig. Her affinity for the creative eventually led her to an internship within the "Art Department" on her first film. Things quickly snowballed into a perfectly suited career as a Production Designer.

 

Since that first film in 2006, she has been part of over 40 films, which include 2014 Sundance selections JAMIE MARKS IS DEAD and LOVE IS STRANGE.  Her other film credits include THE MAIDS ROOM, LAST WEEKEND, LONGEST WEEK, WHITE IRISHDRINKERS, HOLY ROLLERS, HUNGRY HEARTS and the critically acclaimed and award winning film KEEP THE LIGHTS ON.

 

She has served as production designer and set decorator for feature and short films, commercials, television and fashion. In 2014, her scenic design work on A CRIME TO REMEMBER garnered her first Emmy win. Her latest work can be seen in 2015 Sundance Official Selection SLEEPING WITH OTHER PEOPLE.

PAUL FRANK (Editor) is a film and television editor whose film credits include THE TO DO LIST starring Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, and Aubrey Plaza, COLD COMES THE NIGHT with Bryan Cranston, and ADULT BEGINNERS starring Nick Kroll, Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale.

He received his MFA in film from Columbia University.

LEAH KATZNELSON (Costume Designer) received her Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia University in 2002 with a major in Architecture and a concentration in Film. She began her career by working for the prominent architecture firm The Rockwell Group in New York, before beginning her foray into the entertainment business. Having worked extensively as an Assistant Costume Designer and Shopper on projects such as “No Reservations,” “Glee,” “The Visitor,” and “30 Rock,” Katznelson gained invaluable first-hand knowledge that has fostered her development as a Costume Designer.

Some of her most recent Costume Designer credits consist of, MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN, for Jason Reitman, AND SO IT GOES starring Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton, the Nicole Holofcener helmed, ENOUGH SAID, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut, DON JON, and the comedy, 21 JUMP STREET, featuring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill.

She resides in and continues to work on projects in both Los Angeles and New York.

ANDREW FELTENSTEIN AND JOHN NAU (Music By) The independent spirit of the folk movement has morphed into a creative space where EMMY® nominated composers John Nau and Andrew Feltenstein (ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES, SPOILS OF BABYLON) work their musical magic in a studio hidden away in Venice, California in a space that once belonged to Joni Mitchel. Both come from a performance background. Nau was the pianist for the multi-platinum recording artists Hootie and The Blowfish and Feltenstein played and studied jazz. Together they compose and produce music for film, television and commercials.

A project for BudTV – a series of short films and sketches for Budweiser -- would lead to them working with Matt Piedmont, an Emmy Award winning writer for “Saturday Night Live” and writer for the popular website Funny or Die. Piedmont would enlist Feltenstein and Nau to compose for his web series “The Carpet Brothers,” starring “Saturday Night Live” alums David Spade and Tim Meadows and BRICK NOVAX’S DIARY, a winner of a Jury Prize in Short Filmmaking at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.

Nau and Feltenstein’s film and TV credits also include ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES, starring Will Ferrell and Christina Applegate, the IFC series SPOILS OF BABYLON (for which they earned their first EMMY® nomination), BETTER LIVING THROUGH CHEMISTRY, starring Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell, the Lauren Greenfield film KIDS AND MONEY, the BIG LOVE Christmas Album, and BACHELORETTE for director Leslye Headland. The duo has also written and produced the new album for Capitol Recordings artist, NY-rapper Crown.

About the Cast

JASON SUDEIKIS (Jake Harbor) most recently starred opposite Charlie Day and Jason Bateman in the sequel HORRIBLE BOSSES 2 for New Line Cinema. Directed by Sean Anders, the film also starred Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx, Chris Pine and Christoph Waltz. In 2012, Sudeikis also front-lined the original HORRIBLE BOSSES which grossed over $200,000,000 worldwide.

 

In January 2014, Sudeikis filmed the independent drama TUMBLEDOWN, opposite Rebecca Hall. TUMBLEDOWN, directed by Sean Mewshaw, chronicles the story of a young woman (Hall) struggling to move on with her life after the death of her husband when a brash New York writer (Sudeikis) forces her to confront her loss and the circumstances of his death. During that summer, Jason acted along with Owen Wilson and Kristin Wiig in Relativity’s heist comedy MASTERMIND.  This past fall, Jason took a dramatic turn in his work by playing a lead in RACE for Focus Features. RACE is based on the incredible true story of Jesse Owens (Stephan James), the legendary athletic superstar whose quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history thrusts him onto the world stage of the 1936 Olympics, where he faces off against Adolf Hitler’s vision of Aryan supremacy. Opposite Jeremy Irons, Sudeikis will star as Owens’ obsessive coach and mentor Larry Snyder, who, after a prestigious track career himself, became a coach at Ohio State University. Snyder coached athletes who set 14 world records and won eight Olympic gold medals.

 

In 2013, Jason Sudeikis starred opposite Jennifer Aniston in New Line Cinema's box office smash WE’RE THE MILLERS. Written by Bob Fisher and Steve Faber and directed by Rawson Thurber, the film tells the story of a pot dealer (Sudeikis) who creates a fake family to help him smuggle drugs across the country.  WE’RE THE MILLERS grossed over $270,000,000 worldwide at the box office.

 

Sudeikis completed his eighth and final season as a cast member on NBC’s venerable show SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE in the summer of 2013.  Sudeikis worked for two years as a writer on the show before becoming a series regular in 2005. He won over audiences with his impersonations of Vice President Joe Biden, presidential candidate Mitt Romney, and the hip-hop dancer recurring character in the “What’s Up With That” sketch.

 

Additionally, Jason voiced the character “Bomba” in Twentieth Century Fox’s animated feature EPIC, which was released in May of 2013 and also starred Beyonce’ Knowles and Amanda Seyfried.  In 2012, Jason was seen in Warner Brothers’ film THE CAMPAIGN starring alongside Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis and directed by Jay Roach.

  

Sudeikis starred opposite Owen Wilson in the Farrelly Brothers film HALL PASS, which was released by New Line in February 2011.  His other film credits include: THE BOUNTY HUNTER, in which he starred alongside Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler; New Line’s, GOING THE DISTANCE, in which he appeared opposite Drew Barrymore and Justin Long; and WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS with Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher. Additional film credits include; THE TEN, WATCHING THE DETECTIVES, BILL, SEMI-PRO AND THE ROCKER.

 

Jason was featured in multiple episodes of the HBO series EAST BOUND & DOWN, last season.  Sudeikis portrayed the character of Shane, a long lost best friend of Kenny Powers.  Jason also portrayed Shane’s twin brother, Cole who shows up after Shane dies from a drug overdose. Jason has received rave reviews for his arc on NBC’s Emmy Award- winning show 30 ROCK.  Jason appeared in 12 episodes as Tina Fey’s charmingly funny love interest, Floyd. Jason can also be heard portraying the voice of two principle characters on Fox’s hit animated comedy series THE CLEVELAND SHOW by creator Seth MacFarlane.  Sudeikis also guest starred on IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA as the forgotten fourth member of the Paddy’s gang, Schmitty.

Sudeikis was born in Fairfax Virginia but grew up in Overland Park, Kansas. After high school, he received a basketball scholarship to a local junior college. As a class clown and a self admitted “procrastinator,” he frequently dribbled himself in and out of trouble while in college. He began his path in show business by driving 40 miles every weekend to take classes at the ComedySportz Theater (now Comedy City) in Kansas City. At that point, he left basketball and college and made his way to Chicago where he performed with The Second City National Touring Company, Improv Olympic, The Annoyance Theater and Boom Chicago in Amsterdam.  He then moved to Nevada where he became a founding member of The Second City Las Vegas. In 2003, while still in Vegas, Jason was encouraged by his uncle George Wendt (“Cheers”) to send a tape of his work to the producers of SNL. Jason started on the show as a staff writer, and after two years and many auditions, he found himself on camera and never looked back.

 

Jason is actively involved with The Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City as well as other charities.

 

He currently resides in New York City.

ALISON BRIE (Lainey Dalton) will next be seen starring in Warner Bros. GET HARD opposite Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart playing Ferrell’s fiancée. She will soon begin production on the New Line comedy HOW TO BE SINGLE starring opposite Lily Collins.

She was last heard as the voice of Uni-Kitty in THE LEGO MOVIE which grossed over $400 million worldwide.  Brie also had back to back films premiere at the Sundance Film Festival with KINGS OF SUMMER opposite Nick Offerman and Megan Mullaly in 2013 and SAVE THE DATE opposite Lizzie Caplan in 2012.

Her other film credits include: FIVE YEAR ENGAGEMENT opposite Emily Blunt and Jason Segel, GET A JOB opposite Bryan Cranston, SCREAM 4 opposite Courteney Cox, David Arquette and Neve Campbell and MONTANA AMAZON opposite Olympia Dukakis and Haley Joel Osment.

 

She is well known to TV audiences for her role as the adorable but tightly wound Annie Edison, on NBC's hit comedy "Community” and as Trudy Campebll on AMC’s Emmy Award-winning drama "Mad Men.”

 

Brie can also be heard in Netflix’s first original adult animated series, “BoJack Horseman” which premiered last summer and has been renewed for a second season.  She is also producing a pilot for TV LAND based on the web series “Teachers,” which follows six elementary school teachers who are dedicated to their students but don’t have it together in their personal lives.

Brie attended the California Institute of the Arts where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in acting and also studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, Scotland.

Upon graduation, she performed on stage in the Blank Theatre Company's Young Playwright's festival and in shows at the Odyssey, Write-Act and Rubicon Theatres, where she received an Indy Award for her haunting performance as Ophelia in the Rubicon's production of "Hamlet."

ADAM SCOTT (Matthew Sobvechik) has crafted a truly diverse and distinguished career.  Though he began primarily as a dramatic actor, he has displayed great versatility and depth, and built an equally impressive comedy resume. No matter the medium, film, television and theatre, Scott continues to earn rave reviews.

Scott stars in NBC’s Emmy and Golden Globe nominated comedy “Parks and Recreation” opposite Amy Poehler, which recently returned for a seventh and final season. He also starred in the Starz original series "Party Down,” which has since gained a cult following. Scott produced it alongside Executive Producers Paul Rudd, Rob Thomas, Dan Etheridge and John Enbom.

On the big screen, Scott will next star in HOT TUB TIME MACHINE 2, set for release this February. He will also be seen in BLACK MASS opposite Johnny Depp later this year. Scott received critical acclaim for his work in THE VICIOUS KIND, earning a nomination for Best Actor at the Independent Spirit Awards in 2010. He won Best Performance at the 2009 Sidewalk Film Festival and Best Actor at the 2009 Strasbourg Film Festival. Additional credits include THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, A.C.O.D, FRIENDS WITH KIDS, and STEP BROTHERS. 

Scott has a production company with his wife Naomi Scott called Gettin’ Rad Productions, and they recently signed a development deal with Universal Television. Together with Mark Duplass they have executive produced THE OVERNIGHT, a comedy Scott stars in with Jason Schwartzman and Taylor Schilling. The film premieres at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival in the US Dramatic Competition. They also have produced a series of specials for Adult Swim called “The Greatest Event in Television History.”

Scott currently resides in Los Angeles.

JASON MANTZOUKAS (Xander) currently stars as the lovable psychopath Rafi on the FXX series, “The League.”  Also on the small screen, he has guest starred on several television shows such as “Enlightened,” “Modern Family,” “Parks and Recreation,” “Bob’s Burgers,” “Broad City,” “Transparent,” and “Kroll Show.”

In 2012, Mantzoukas starred opposite Sacha Baron Cohen in THE DICTATOR.  Some of his other film credits include BABY MAMA, PLEASE GIVE, THEY CAME TOGETHER, NEIGHBORS, and SEARCH PARTY.

In addition to his film and television performances, Mantzoukas co-hosts the comedy podcast, "How Did This Get Made?” on the Earwolf Network alongside June Diane Raphael and Paul Scheer.  Together, the trio provides offbeat analyses of bad movies.  The podcast has been recognized as one of iTunes’ top comedy podcasts, winning the 2012 LA Weekly Web Award for Best Podcast.

Mantzoukas was previously Co-Executive Producer and Consulting Producer on Adult Swim’s satirical comedy “Children’s Hospital” and IFC’s critically acclaimed “Portlandia,” respectively.

NATASHA LYONNE (Kara) has achieved success on both stage and screen.  She continues to display her creative versatility and talent after more than two decades in the industry.

Lyonne received her first Emmy nomination for her portrayal of the sarcastically insightful, former heroin addict, Nicky Nichols, in Netflix’s award-winning drama series, “Orange Is the New Black,” based on Piper Kerman’s memoir Orange Is The New Black: My Year In a Women’s Prison.  The original series, created by Jenji Kohan (“Weeds”) is currently filming its third season, scheduled to premiere in June 2015.  Lyonne recently appeared in several Independent films including ANTIBIRTH, opposite Chloe Sevigny, and the dramedy THE QUITTER, both to be released in 2014, as well as #HORROR, opposite Taryn Manning, Chloe Sevigny and Timothy Hutton, due out in 2015.  

Among her other film credits, she is best known for her acclaimed performances in SLUMS OF BEVERLY HILLS, the beloved comedy directed by Tamara Jenkins; the coming-of age comedy BUT I’M A CHEERLEADER, with Clea Duvall; Woody Allen’s all-star romantic musical comedy, EVERYONE SAY I LOVE YOU; the Holocaust drama, THE GREY ZONE, and is most beloved as part of the ensemble cast for the AMERICAN PIE series, most recently reuniting for the latest installment, AMERICAN REUNION in 2012.

KATHERINE WATERSTON (Emma) can currently be seen playing the role of “Shasta” starring alongside Joaquin Phoenix in Paul Thomas Anderson's '70s drug-fueled crime drama INHERENT VICE for Warner Brothers.

Katherine recently wrapped filming Alex Ross Perry’s Independent film QUEEN OF EARTH opposite Elisabeth Moss. 

Previously, Katherine was seen in THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ELEANOR RIGBY opposite Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival.  She also appeared in Kelly Reichardt’s NIGHT MOVES opposite Dakota Fanning, Peter Sarsgaard, and Jesse Eisenberg which also premiered at the Toronto Film Festival.

ADAM BRODY (Sam) is a dynamic young actor, who has crafted a distinguished career in film and television and is quickly becoming one of the finest young actors to hit the big screen.

Brody completed Whit Stillman’s “Cosmopolitan” pilot for Amazon Studios, in a lead role alongside Chloe Sevigny and Dree Hemingway. MARC BLUCAS (Chris) is a leading man who naturally embodies both intellect and physicality. He has worked consistently in film and television.  One of Blucas' first acting roles was in Gary Ross' PLEASANTVILLE with Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon.  After supporting roles in SUMMER CATCH with Jessica Biel, Kevin Smith's JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK and WE WERE SOLDIERS with Mel Gibson, Blucas went on to star as the male lead opposite Katie Holmes in Fox's FIRST DAUGHTER, directed by Forest Whitaker.

ANDREA SAVAGE (Naomi) is a comedic actress, writer, producer and director. Originally hailing from The Groundlings and stand-up comedy, she has starred in such films as STEPBROTHERS, DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS, LIFE HAPPENS, THE GRAND and most recently, opposite Hillary Swank in YOU’RE NOT YOU. In television, Andrea starred in and wrote on Comedy Central’s cult classic “Dog Bites Man.” She recently appeared on “The League,” “Modern Family,” “House Of Lies,” and “The Kroll Show,” and starred as “Veronica Von Vondervon” on HULU’s acclaimed series “The Hotwives Of Orlando” and is now prepping to begin season two. She just finished shooting the Amazon pilot “Down Dog,” as well as a major arc on Season 4 of Showtime’s EPISODES.

 

Andrea is also a prolific writer and producer. She wrote and developed the pilot “Re-Together” for ABC (Jamie Tarses/Sony) and “River Dogs” for Comedy Central (produced by Gary Sanchez.)  She has also written pilots for NBC (produced by Jay Roach) and for FOX.  She wrote, produced and starred in both seasons of FUNNY OR DIE PRESENTS on HBO, as well as many other FOD videos, including the viral hit “Republicans Get In My Vagina!,” which she directed and was premiered on “The Bill Maher Show.” Andrea also wrote the screenplay, GIRLS WEEKEND, for Castle Rock Films.
