Understanding and investigating relationships between quantities and reasoning with equations; 2.) Understanding and applying linear and exponential relationships; 3.) Investigating trends and modeling with descriptive statistics; 4.) Performing arithmetic operations on polynomial expressions, solving equations, inequalities, and systems of equations; and 5.) Using properties of rational and irrational numbers to develop an understanding of quadratic functions. Through real world performance tasks, students apply knowledge and focus on mathematical reasoning and communication. WCPS middle and high school students who pass Algebra I and the MCAP Algebra I assessments attain the graduation requirement. The middle school course grade is included in the high school grade point average (GPA) unless a student opts to retake Algebra I in their freshman year of high school (highest grade will be included in GPA). Expectations: All school rules are to be followed as outlined in the Student HandbookStudents are expected to be in class on time and prepared (homework, binder, paper, pencil, charged iPad and agenda)** No one is allowed to leave the room WITHOUT an agenda**Independent practice will be assigned every day. Every problem must be attempted and work must be shown in order to receive full credit. Plan on setting up a routine to meet this expectation.Late assignments will not be accepted for full credit unless due to an excused absence. If a student is absent it is the student’s responsibility to retrieve any missed notes and assignments. Displaying a cell phone or other electronic/portable communication devices for non-instructional purpose, without permission from the teacher will result in disciplinary actions.Additional Help and Resources:Students should make arrangements to stay afterschool if they require additional help. Students should come prepared to tutoring. That means they should already have practice problems or a specific topic that they want to work on.
