World Culture Fair Project ProposalsYou will be participating in the World Culture Fair on Thursday, April 21st during 1st, 2nd and 3rd periods. You will be conducting research, creating a presentation and then presenting this information to visiting classes and teachers during the fair. Read over the proposals below and sign up for one that speaks to you. You may also create your own project idea but it MUST be approved first. ALL PROJECT MUST:Have a clear and relevant cultural connectionHave an appropriate work load for the number of people in your groupInclude a visual aide or technology componentInclude a quiz for visitorsInteractive component.French Phrases Hidden in English Words: Use the YouTube Video “French Phrases Hidden in English Words” as your inspiration. Each member will create 2 mini posters (or visual aide of your choice) that show the connection between the French phrase and the English word. During your presentation, you will explain the connection, using your art as a visual aide for the students you are presenting to.Words: vinegar, curfew, dandelion, mortgage, porcupines, denim, debonair, maydayRequirements: posters/visual aides that have both French and English, short quiz at the end with 3-5 questions about the contentSuggestions: have a list of all the words on the poster and see if any of the visitors already know the French behind it. Tell French 1 students not to spoil it! Francophone Countries: A common misconception is that the only major Francophone areas are France and Canada. Although France and Canada are integral to Francophone culture, there are many many more! For this project, your job is to make visitors aware of the depth of Francophone culture and countries. Requirements: basic facts about French-speaking countries (how many, where they are geographically, different French dialects such as Creole), 3-5 questions about your contentSuggestions: start with a pre-test that asks students to name as many French-speaking countries as they can, create a map that shows all of the French-speaking countries in the world, give the sporcle quiz on an iPad Basic French Language: You’re the teacher! You and your group members will create a ‘mini lesson’ on some basic French phrases (think French 1) and teach them to the people visiting your booth.Requirements: introductory French language embedded in a fun and engaging lesson, short quiz (or Kahoot) that visitors can take at the end to show their knowledgeSuggestions: stick with simple and fun vocabulary like numbers/greetings/colors/animals, be sure to select words that you are comfortable pronouncing and teaching! Dance/Music/Art/Literature/ClothingPick one and research the contributions that a Francophone country/city has made in the area you choose. What famous artists come from your city? What famous musicians or style of dance originates from your city? Research the origins, research the music, dance, art, literature or clothing and create a unique, interactive, way to share that with the visitors. Can you make costumes, perform some music, teach music, teach the dance, show videos, share some literature?Connecting With Your Inner Frenchie:There are lots of French-related events that happen in Louisville. Find at least 10 concerts/art exhibits/museums/restaurants that people could visit or attend and share with information with visitors.Requirements: calendar of upcoming events, lists of French restaurants, featured Francophone people at museums, 2-3 questions about your contentSuggestions: include menus and pricing for the restaurants that you choose, if there is an upcoming concert have an audio clip ready on an iPad that students can samplePolitical Junkies:Research your country’s current political climate and present that to your audience in a way that matters. Why does it matter to you, why does it matter to our country? Why should it matter to the world?Calling all activists:Want to make a change in the world? Me too! Research the current political, environmental, social problem(s) exist in a specific Francophone city of your choice. Present the problem in an honest, non-biased way and brainstorm some ways that an average visitor to your booth can make a difference or take action to make a difference even in your city far away!Your IdeaIf you have an interest in a cultural component that is NOT proposed above, you may write a proposal and submit it to me for approval. If multiple groups want to present on the same topic, there must be differentiation between the two presentations. ................
