(We want to make sure we have enough materials!) the fun of engineering through hands-on activities with your whole family!*engineering designs *coding *robotics *art innovationStudent After-school PickupWe are thankful that the road construction in front of Eastgate is finally completed. There is a new bike lane, more street parking, and better sidewalk access. However, the completion of the construction has not helped alleviate some of the traffic backups on Newport Way. The Bellevue Police Department has been in contact with me and asked me to communicate to Eastgate families concerns about on-going traffic violations that pose a serious safety risk as a result of the cars waiting to enter the Eastgate parking lot impeding the flow of traffic on Newport Way. What the BPD has communicated to me is that cars are not permitted to stop or stand in the lane of travel if it impedes the normal flow of traffic. Drivers in violation run the risk of being issued a citation. My understanding is:If you are traveling westbound on Newport Way and you want to turn left into Eastgate’s parking lot, it is allowable to do so if there are no cars stopping you from entering the school parking lot. However, if there are cars backed up in the parking lot, you may not “stop or stand” in your vehicle in the lane of travel and wait to turn in.If you are traveling eastbound on Newport Way and you want to turn right into Eastgate’s parking lot, it is allowable to do so if there are not cars blocking your ability to turn fully into the lot. If cars are backed up and you cannot enter the parking lot, you may not “stop or stand” (in your vehicle) in the lane of travel (this includes blocking the bike lane and the sidewalk). I am sharing all of this information in an effort to communicate this information from the Bellevue Police Department in the hopes that no one is issued a traffic citation. If you have concerns about traffic outside the school, please contact the Bellevue Police Department.I do understand the responsibility of the BPD to ensure traffic safety, and understand the concerns about safety on Newport Way with traffic backed up. I will continue to work with our District’s transportation and facilities departments to find a manageable solution. If it is an option, please consider having your child ride the bus. If riding the bus is not an option, consider looking for parking near the school and walking to come pick up your child. 41702179044State Assessment CalendarAll 3-5 students will take the Smarter Balanced Assessment for English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics online during the spring of this school year. 5th grade students will also take the MSP for Science. Because students with severe allergies cannot be in contact with specific allergen containing foods, we are asking that you avoid sending any homemade foods to school for shared classroom food celebrations. We are an Allergy Aware School! Please coordinate with your child’s teacher before providing any snacks or treats to be shared with the class. The best way to keep students with food allergies safe during classroom food celebrations is to ensure that their parents are aware of what outside food is being brought into the classroom. We can only alert parents if everyone remembers to contact the teacher or school nurse PRIOR to bringing food to school. Two weeks prior would be ideal. When you do bring food to school, please make sure all items are STORE-BOUGHT with clear, readable labels. We want all of our students to enjoy classroom celebrations, but the less food, snacks, treats, candy, etc. in the classroom - the easier it is to keep all students safe. Non-food items can be lots of fun too!Thank you for your consideration and support in this matter. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me.Sincerely,Nancey Goforth BSN RN, School Nursegoforthn@Link for the District Anaphylaxis Procedure: Virtue of the Monthleft85330Self-discipline means self-control.
