Judith L. Ford

June 5, 1945 May 18, 2019

Judith L. "Judy" Ford, 73 of Martinsburg, passed away early Saturday morning, May 18, 2019 at her residence.

She was born and raised in rural New Jersey, enjoying the benefits of country living, daughter of the late James A. and Laura (Griscom) Bowers. On December 21, 1968 she married Richard M. Ford in Jacksonville, NJ.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 50 years; two sons: R. Brian (Robin) Ford of Martinsburg and James E. (Lisa) Ford of Burlington, NJ; two daughters: Kelly L. (Kevin) Zepp of Denver, CO and Maria G. Ford at home; and three grandchildren: Jackson Ford, Molly Ford and Micah Zepp.

As an adult, Judy served others as a registered nurse for 30 years and during that time took care of 24 foster babies in her home. She nursed one foster baby at a time, while also raising four children of her own. After her children were grown she went with her husband, Dick to serve as missionaries in the Philippines. There she applied her nursing knowledge as she helped in the upgrading of an orphanage that was in poor condition. Judy also mentored young Filipino women through sharing from the Bible.

Judy had a dream of making a home for disabled children in the Philippines, for families who lacked the resources to care for them. God blessed her with seeing that dream come true, when in 2014 “The House of Love and Compassion” was opened there. He also blessed her later in life, allowing her to enjoy the country life once again, spending her retirement years in the Morrisons Cove.

At Judy’s request a private interment will be held at Dry Hill Cemetery, rural Woodbury and a public memorial service will be held at 11am, Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Foot of Ten Independent Baptist Church, Pastor David Huston officiating. Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.

Memorial contributions in memory of Judy may be given to The House of Love and Compassion, c/o Central Missions Clearinghouse, P.O. Box 219228, Houston, TX 77218-9228.

Ford Forum Philippine Mercy Mission

I am sorry it has been so long since our last prayer letter but the first half of 2019 has been difficult. After a long battle with Pulmonary Hypertension, Judy passed away peacefully at home on Hospice care May 18, 2019. Her obituary is at the end of this prayer letter for those who might be interested. Ministry has continued on however as I managed operations from my office by way of the internet. Read on about what God is doing.

Targeting Another Neighborhood

New Biblically based churches are needed worldwide including in the USA. We have been blessed to team up with nationals in the Philippines to start four over the years. Pastor Sany Baldera is one of those people. His church in Dao is a result a team effort between him and our ministry starting 15 years ago. Over that time he has developed leaders in the church and trained these men in evangelism and church planting. Sany and his leadership team now desire to start a daughter church in another town. We are assisting him in this effort.

Two small towns have been chosen to target. One is called Herrera and the other is Masaguing. We will see where God opens doors. Pray for safe travel. The Tayabas bay is not always calm.

Your support to our ministry helps us supplement Sany’s income so he can provide for his wife and newly adopted son, as well as supporting the expenses of travel to the towns, Bibles and Bible study materials.

Travel to these towns is difficult over land. There is thick jungle between Dao and them. The best way to get there is by taking a boat along the coast.

Old fashioned methods of house to house visitation and Bible studies are being used to start relationships with people in these towns and gain the opportunity to share the Gospel.

Staring at what is left of their home.

[pic]

An entire village gone.

[pic]

The church was the only concrete structure in the village. There is some roof damage and windows that blew out, but it is habitable. The tribe will all sleep in the church until homes are rebuilt.

Mangyan Ministry

We are sorry to report that our Mangyan brothers and sisters have lost their entire village to a fire. Every home was burned to the ground. They were left with only the clothes they were wearing. They lost cooking pots and utensils, clothes including school uniforms required by the municipality for public school no matter what the income of the family is and Bibles given to those that have learned to read. Everything.

Lighters are used to start cooking fires. In one home they kept the lighter stored on a rafter of their open ceiling to keep it out of reach of the little children. This put it right under a tin roof. It was very hot that day. As the sun beat down on the roof the lighter became so hot that it exploded. The house began to burn intensely as the homes are made of sticks. The homes are very close together and so the fire spread easily from one to another. By God’s Grace no one was injured.

With the help of God we will rebuild! The day of the fire we immediately transferred funds from our general account to buy food and cooking utensils so the people can feed themselves. An assessment of the needs to rebuild has been made and we will move forward as the Lord provides. This will include homes, Bibles, school uniforms and any other things needed to get life back to normal.

UPDATES

This prayer letter was started just before Judy became more seriously ill. So here are updates to some of the articles.

Targeting another neighborhood.

A church has actually been started in Herrera. There are 20 families attending. We supplied each household with a Bible. We plan to build a small church out of coco lumber, bamboo with a palm leaf roof.

Mangyan Ministry

God has done some amazing things over the years for our ministry through a little church in rural New Jersey. Recently He moved in the hearts of the people there and supplied enough funds to replace all 16 homes plus drill a new well to replace the old dug well which became contaminated. In our next prayer letter we will show you the progress of building a village.

Pastor Training

Solid doctrinal training as well as practical training in sermon writing and preaching is very important. We have been committed to that from the beginning. We have been working with our key person of leadership on the field, Pastor Leo Ordiales, in developing curriculum, and supplying books and Bibles. Training has been at several venues as Pastor Leo travels to the pastors in training as they cannot always afford to travel to the main island of Luzon. These trainings will continue but we have also helped develop a training center on Luzon that the many pastors on that island can travel to for classes. Pray these men both on Luzon and the outer islands will go out from the classes and minister to their congregations well.

House of Love and Compassion

We are awaiting test results on a possible new child for the home. Gelai is continuing to improve in her walking after her surgery. Kim still is saying he wants to become a Pastor to people like him. More on these things in our next prayer letter.
