JUDICIAL COLLEGE OF VICTORIA

The Judicial College of Victoria (the College) supports the Victorian judiciary to successfully meet the unique challenges of their roles through judicial education, research, and knowledge creation and dissemination.

The College is founded on a model of peer education, with judges, magistrates, coroners and tribunal members sharing their knowledge and expertise on matters of law and practice. We also engage with some of the best thinkers in Australia and the world to foster ideas and expand horizons.

|ROLE PURPOSE |

|The Justice Innovation Team provides education in emerging areas of justice delivery, such as family violence, Drug Court and youth justice. The |

|Education Project Manager - Drug Court leads the development, implementation and delivery of the program of education for the multi-disciplinary team |

|that will support the expansion of the Drug Court of Victoria to CBD Melbourne (the Drug Court project). |

| |

|The Manager has specialist knowledge and experience of national and international trends in therapeutic and/or Drug Court jurisprudence as well as |

|high-level skills in legal/judicial education program design and evaluation. They are responsible for developing and implementing the program of |

|education for a team led by a Drug Court magistrate or magistrates and comprised of court staff, lawyers (including from Victoria Legal Aid), members |

|of Victoria Police and Corrections, clinical advisers, case managers and housing support workers, among others. |

| |

|The Manager is a highly motivated, leader and project manager. They convene and work collaboratively with a judiciary led Steering Committee that will |

|oversee the education program. They have an authentic interest in the justice system and the Drug Court project in particular. They also demonstrate an|

|interest in the work of the College more broadly and support the work of their colleagues. |

| |

|In addition to the Drug Court project, the Manager has a portfolio of responsibilities in relation to the College’s calendar of education events or |

|projects. These responsibilities draw on or have a relationship to the Manager’s specialist knowledge of therapeutic jurisprudence. |

| |

|The role involves working in a busy, professional, public sector environment as part of a small dedicated team dealing with members of the judiciary |

|and other high-level stakeholders – so diplomacy, loyalty, discretion and a strong customer service attitude are vital. The program will be implemented|

|within tight timelines, so a capacity to work under pressure, meet strict deadlines, work independently and lead and motivate others is essential. |

| |

|The Education Program Manager – Drug Court reports to the Director, Justice Innovation. |

|KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES |

|Lead the development and implementation of the program of education for the multi-disciplinary team that supports the Drug Court project, ensuring that|

|quality, time and financial targets are met. |

|Research, develop and deliver innovative education initiatives in relation to the Drug Court project. |

|Build and work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary Steering Committee which oversees the Drug Court project and in relation to other strategic |

|relationships. |

|Consult and negotiate effectively in order to manage stakeholders’ expectations and competing priorities to deliver successful and timely outcomes in |

|relation to the Drug Court project. |

|Provide strategic and authoritative advice to the Chief Executive Officer, Director Justice Innovation, Director Judicial Education and other |

|colleagues on developments, policies and trends in therapeutic and/or Drug Court jurisprudence which may be relevant generally to future College |

|programs, research or information delivery. |

|Lead and manage a robust evaluation of the Drug Court project. |

|Manage the budget for the Drug Court project. |

|Confidently represent the College and its interests, including in meetings and forums. |

|QUALIFICATIONS |

|Tertiary qualification or qualifications in law, criminology, behavioural or social sciences, education, psychology and/or other relevant discipline |

|required. |

|For non-VPS applicants the position is subject to a three-month probation period. |

|The College is an independent statutory authority. College staff are employed by the Chief Executive Officer of Courts Services Victoria as the |

|relevant public service head. Successful applicants are subject to a criminal record check. |
