1. Go to

2. Click on “GIL – search the library catalog.”

3. In the first search blank, type in “The Giver.”

Then change “all of these” to “as a phrase” with the first pull down menu.

Then change “Keyword (Title/Subject)” to “Title” with the second pull down

menu.

4. Click on the “Go” button at the bottom of the box.

5. Scroll through the hit list and click on Giver / Lois Lowry title.

6. You will see the item displayed with holdings listed.

7. Now click on the Technical Display button above the record.

8. Email a record to yourself and check to see how the record was imported.

9. Practice with other titles. Remember, you must be very specific with your title name or author name and you must choose from the 2 pull down menus to define your search; otherwise, you receive hundreds of unwanted records.

10. Write a reaction paper (couple of paragraphs) on your findings when working at the GIL site. How much would you anticipate using this site?

2. At the first pull down menu, choose “Title.”

3. Type in Watership Down.

4. Click on the “Go” button.

5. Select the first Watership Down selection.

6. Choose any one of the Watership Down titles.

7. Click on the MARC Display tab at the top of the record.

8. After examining the MARC record, click on the Regular Display tab to return to your record.

9. Click on the Save Record tab, then go to the View Saved tab, then view and export your saved record.

10. Scroll down and check the select box of the record (little white box next to the title) and attempt to email to yourself. (I was not successful with this attempt.) You must fill in the address.

11. Explore this website using titles of your own choice. (Practice with the pull down tab at the right on the main search screen…search Juvenile and Young Adult selections from that tab to see the range of titles covered.)

12. Write a reaction paper (couple of paragraphs) on your findings when working at the alisweb site. How much would you anticipate using this site?

Georgia Public Library catalogs

1. Go to pines.lib.ga.us

2. Do a search for “Snicket” on the search line. How many hits?

3. Now go to “Advanced Search” and “Choose a library to search.” Select the West Georgia Regional Library. Perform the “Snicket” search at this library. How many hits?

4. Perform a new search: Francine Rivers

5. Find the title And the shofar blew.

• See the Excerpt listed.

• See the full MARC record listed.

6. Click on “Architects” link at left

7. Click on Coraci videorecording icon; see the Abstract

8. Go back to “MY TITLE RESULTS” (left).

9. Click on The Fountainhead (second screen); see the Author Notes.

10. Choose one of the records, or a record from another search of your own choosing. Examine the following:

• Link to a title to see what results are displayed

• Link to an author to see what results are displayed

• How do you know which libraries/branches have the item available

• How can you tell how many total copies are available

11. Write a reaction paper on your findings when working at the PINES site. How much would you anticipate using this site? (Interlibrary loan is a tremendous asset in using PINES!!)

Tell which of the copy cataloging sites you have reviewed that you prefer to use most.

This should all be in one continuous document, not separate files. Post this reaction paper in one document to the Assignment Drop Box.
