DATE:November 2020POSITION TITLE:Canine Animal Care Team LeaderLOCATION:SPCA Christchurch CentreREPORTS TO:Animal Services ManagerDIRECT REPORTS:Canine and Livestock Animal AttendantsPURPOSE: To act as a key member of the Animal Care Team, providing specialist animal welfare knowledge and guidance as appropriate. To support the Animal Services Manager as required and by ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the Animal Attendant team and that Centre standards are maintained. To participate in recruitment and oversee, train and mentor all animal attendant staff & volunteers with their operational daily duties, training and continuing development.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Operational DutiesPerform operational animal care duties as assigned by the Animal Services Manager in either the ‘Dogs for Adoption’, ‘Red’ zone or Livestock (as supported by and aligned with, policies and procedures for these areas). Maintain oversight of Canine facilities, animals in care and capacity. Monitor progress and plans of sick/ injured animals in SPCA care.Ensure that animal care staff and volunteers have the appropriate support to carry out operational work effectively, accountably and plete annual staff performance reviews and 1-2-1’s as required.Assist Customer Service Team Leaders with adoptions of special animal cases and response to customer complaints as required.Monitor and maintain Animal Attendant workloads in conjunction with Animal Services Manager. Ensure all reporting (if required) is completed in a timely manner to the Animal Services Manager this is to include but not limited to; staff timesheets, workload, staffing, and statistics. Work alongside Head of Veterinary Services, Head Vet Nurse, Customer Service Team Leader and marketing team to ensure adequate flow of animals into and out of adoptionsThe Animal Services Manager is kept informed in a timely manner of all relevant staff and animal welfare operational issues for which the Canine Animal Care Team Leader is accountable. Risks are highlighted and managed at an early stage.Reports are on time and accurate.Manage the Canine Behaviour team onsite and ensure all Canine Temperament tests are conducted in a fair and reasonable timeframe with adequate recommendations and behaviour plans in place. Liaise with the rehoming panel around adoption suitability.Monitor pet food supplies and ensure Bi-monthly orders are completed for Purina delivery.Provides follow up calls for special adoption cases as appropriate. Monitor and approve/decline leave applications (annual), monitor sick leave. Time sheets – including entering on MYOB.Ensure all HR practices are fair and reasonable and that all concerns are escalated to the Animal Services Manager and HR Advisor.Maintain relationships with other rescue/welfare groups as required to provide desexing, food assistance and support when possible.Help Coordinate and complete Animal Ambulance call outs as required when the Ambulance staff member is not present/available.Assist Animal Services Manager with the review and creation of training documents for Canine and Livestock including Centre Manuals, processes and proceduresEducation / Promotion of SPCA brandMembers of the public / animal owners & carers are consistently given good advice and appropriate information which seeks to improve or maintain welfare of animal(s), whilst maintaining the image of the society as a caring organisation.Positive feedback regarding SPCA is consistently received where anticipated.SPCA ‘brand’ is protected and promoted at all times.Personal and Animal Attendant Staff Continuing EducationEducation opportunities are sought proactively for staff and self.
