We also understand that cheerleading is very time consuming and will commit to the time and regulations required of the Padua cheerleaders. Please keep the Padua Cheerleader Rules and Regulations for future reference.Padua Cheerleading Rules and Regulations 2018 – 2019PRACTICESMandatory practices during the school year will be held. The number of practices may range from 1-3 times per week.During rally week, there can be up to two (2) additional morning practices at 6am, plus the regular practices for the week. Cheerleaders must come dressed appropriately to practice: Shorts, t-shirt, spandex, cheer shoes and without jewelry. A cheerleader is not permitted to leave practice early unless given permission to do so by a coach. All cheerleaders will meet at the end of practice with a coach before being dismissed from practice.All cheerleaders will be involved in sign making and locker decoration during their season.GAMES Games are a cheerleader’s responsibility and attendance is mandatory. NO EXCUSES will be permitted except for the following:IllnessThe cheerleader must be absent from school and be on the absentee list.If the cheerleader is not on the absentee list, the advisor must be contacted and a written parental note be turned in at the next practice.Cheerleaders follow attendance policy for student/athletes on page 13 of parent/student handbook.A family emergency: death, hospital (a written explanation must be given to the coach at the next practice).If a cheerleader misses a game without being excused by an advisor, they will not be permitted to cheer at the next game and will receive the designated number of demerits.Cheerleaders must arrive at least one (1) hour before the game is scheduled to begin, unless otherwise stated by a coach.Cheerleader must be in the cheering area before the scheduled start of the game and return on time after half time.Football cheerleaders: J.V. squad will attend all Varsity home games, and must check-in during halftime and will not leave until dismissed. Basketball cheerleaders: J.V. squad will remain in uniform the entire Varsity game. Varsity squad will attend, dressed in uniform, and actively support the J.V. squad for the 4th quarter. Playoff & rescheduled games are mandatory.Cheerleaders are not permitted to leave the stadium or high school during a game or at half-time.Pre-game activities such as signs will be assigned by the coach and are mandatory.Cheerleaders may go home from away contests with their parents only, only with written notification to the coach by the parent. UNIFORMSA cheerleader’s uniform reflects not only the individual, but the school as a whole.Cheerleaders are responsible for having uniforms cleaned whenever necessary during the season.No additional ornamentation or clothing is to be a part of any cheerleader’s uniform.Uniform is to be worn only for games and rallies by the person assigned to that uniform.APPEARANCEA cheerleader is a representative of the school and is expected to be neat and appropriately dressed.Hair must be neat and out of the face.Make-up must be natural looking and kept to a minimum.The following may not be worn: watches, bracelets, necklaces, rings or dangling earrings.One pair of small stud earrings may be worn.Cheerleaders will wear their uniform or team sweats to the game as determined by the coach. CONDUCTA cheerleader WILL NOT ALLOW OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES (including work, dance, all-star cheerleading, etc.) to interfere with the duties on the squad.If a cheerleader is suspended from a game due to demerits, the following procedures will be followed:Cheerleader must attend all practices.Cheerleader must complete any assignments given.Cheerleader must attend the game and sit with the coach.If a cheerleader is absent from school the day of a suspension, the cheerleader will continue to be suspended until the suspension obligations have been fulfilled.Maintain a positive attitude, not cause uncomfortable situations for coach or other squad members.Cell phones are to be turned off and put away for all practices, games and cheer-related events. STATUSAs with all teams at Padua status can change at the coach’s discretion.A Junior Varsity Cheerleader can be moved to Varsity as needed.A Varsity Cheerleader may be returned to Junior Varsity status, if necessary.TEAM PLACEMENTTryout results will be posted on April 20, 2018 at 3pm on the Padua athletics website. Cheerleaders have until May 1, 2017 to accept/decline squad placement.For football cheerleaders, the official start date is June 4, 2018. Cheerleaders will jeopardize future squad selection, squad placement and/or role within the squad if they quit after June 4, 2018.For basketball cheerleaders, the official start date is October 1, 2018. Cheerleaders will jeopardize future squad selection, squad placement and/or role within the squad if they quit after June 4, 2018. First year members are eligible to make the Varsity squad. SKILLSSkills performed at tryouts will be required to be performed during the season.Formation placement will be based on skills under the discretion of the coaches.Cheerleaders with seniority will be given the opportunity for prime placement in formations, but are not guaranteed those positions during the season. STUNTINGNo talking will be permitted while stunting.Hair must be pulled back and away from the face during stunting.No loose fitting clothes shall be worn during stunting. No stunting without a coach present. FITNESS REQUIREMENTSCheerleaders will be required to complete a fitness test prior to their season. The fitness test must be completed in order to remain on the squad. The workout regime must be followed to remain on the squad.DISCIPLINARY PROBLEMS, GRADES AND DEMERITSAdvisors are the only people who have the authority to excuse a cheerleader from missing a function.Advisors have the authority to issue demerits, suspend, or dismiss a cheerleader from the squad.Advisors, along with the Athletic Director, have the authority to determine whether or not a cheerleader who was previously dismissed from the squad may try out for the following season or year.A cheerleader is expected to maintain grades according to the school’s eligibility rules.A cheerleader is governed under the Padua Athletic Policies, including the academic Eligibility and the Alcohol and Drug Policy.In addition, the following cheerleading demerit system is in effect:2 demerits—dismissal from cheering at one game.3 demerits—dismissal from cheering at one game.4 demerits—dismissal from cheering two games, failure to letter if a Varsity cheerleader.5 demerits—permanent expulsion from the squad(s), notification of parents, forfeiture of all awards.Intersquad Discipline: Demerits are assigned by the advisor. One warning will be given before any demerits are issued. (This does not apply to unexcused absences or insubordination). After the warning is given the following demerits will be issued. 1/2-1—tardiness 1/2-1—inappropriate conduct 1/2-1—inappropriate attire 1—leaving practice/game early unexcused 1—failure to fulfill cheerleading assignments 2—unexcused absence 3--insubordination*Demerits will go into the Cheerleaders Past Performance score for the following year’s tryout* ................
