|Hours of Work: Days, and other hours as required based on individual infection control issues. Will be |
|required to participate in the provision of on-call coverage for the Hospital including after hours and |
|weekends. |
|Summary of Duties: The Infection Prevention & Control Coordinator works closely with the ambulatory |
|patient care programmes and supervises the development, implementation and evaluation of the IP&C |
|strategies for the ambulatory patient care programme. This includes surveillance activities; organizing |
|outbreak management; acting as a consultant internally and externally; providing education to all levels |
|of health care providers: reviewing, selecting and distributing appropriate literature; linking with |
|external agencies and academic institutions across the continuum of care; participating in research |
|activities, and applying continuous quality improvement principles. The role also includes providing |
|infection prevention & control recommendations for patient care practices, construction and design |
|projects, environmental cleaning and the cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of equipment and |
|instruments. |
|Qualifications/Skills; Baccalaureate degree in a health care related field or equivalent combination of |
|education (e.g. public health, environmental hygiene) and proven expertise in infection prevention and |
|control with leadership skills is essential. Possesses knowledge and/or has job related experience in the |
|health care field and is familiar with patient care practices. Certification (or eligible for |
|certification) from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC), and/or a Masters |
|in Epidemiology. Member of national infection control association (CHICA-Canada) preferred: |
|Works independently and is self-motivated, self-directed while possessing the ability to work in a |
|collaborative manner. |
|Demonstrates effective leadership and management skills using the principles of total quality management. |
|Demonstrates the ability to effectively articulate the important components of an infection prevention and|
|control program with all levels of personnel/clients |
|Expert Infection Prevention & Control knowledge required to act as a resource and problem solve Infection |
|Prevention & Control issues |
|Possesses knowledge of, and is able to utilize educational principles in program development and teaching.|
|Demonstrates expert verbal and written communication skills. |
|Possesses knowledge of epidemiological principles, statistics, microbiology, and infectious diseases. |
|Possesses knowledge of and utilises the principles of continuous quality improvement |
|Demonstrates skill in computer databases (uses spreadsheets, Word, PowerPoint, internet searches, e-mail |
|comfortably). |
|Demonstrates the ability to integrate this knowledge into clinical practice. |
