Around 80% of adults will experience it at some point in their lifetime. This pain can vary greatly in intensity, from a low, dull ache that remains ever present beneath the surface to stabbing, sudden pains that can leave someone completely incapacitated until it subsides. Some of this pain is what we call acute back pain, meaning that it goes away after a few days to a few weeks. This form of back pain is usually caused by disruptions that knock your spine or discs out of alignment, which can normally be corrected by normal self-care and rest. Other back pain isn’t so simple to resolve. This is what we call chronic back pain. This pain is nagging and persistent, usually lasting for more than a few months and resisting normal self-care methods. In these cases, you may need to have surgery to resolve the issue. Not only is the Metropolitan Surgery Center your trusted source for spine and chiropractic surgery, we are also the only emergency surgery center for spine and neck injuries. Dr. Boeding has been practicing interventional pain management since 2012 and performs injections on all areas of the body.Dr. Boeding has a special interest in the use of spinal cord stimulation for the treatment of intractable pains ranging from neuropathy due to diseases like diabetes, to low back or neck pain after spine surgery, and for chronic regional pain syndrome. His philosophy is that pain is only one sign of an underlying disease. Moreover, chronic pain is a sign that the current/past treatments are not helping. The use of narcotic and non-narcotic pain medications, as well as appropriate procedural interventions should be individually considered for each patient and can be used as a means to buy time for the source of the pain to be identified, and ultimately, treated optimally. For those times that the source of the pain is well-known and has been treated as well as possible, then the ongoing use of medications and procedures becomes an option to allow continued/preserved function.H2: Dustin Ward M.D.Dustin Ward, MD grew up in Lakeville, Minnesota.
