1. We show patriotism by saying the pledge of allegiance to the American flag, singing the national anthem, and recognizing the state (GA) and American flag.

2. Good citizens obey rules that are made by leaders so that everyone can stay safe and order is maintained. Being a good citizen involves taking turns and sharing; taking responsibility for certain classroom chores; taking care of personal belongings and respecting what belongs to others; following rules and understanding the consequence of breaking rules; practicing honesty, selfcontrol, and kindness to others; participating in decision making in the classroom; participating successfully in group settings.

3. Everyone can show good citizenship when they follow the rules for a particular place. When rules are followed people can work, play and live well.

Performance Assessment

Engaging Scenario Mr. Panda Bear is visiting from China and does not know about rules or symbols that represent our country. Your job is to help Mr. Panda Bear learn more about the rules, symbols and holidays represented in America. You will be Mr. Panda Bear's tour guide and will create a souvenir packet for him to take back to China and explain why rules are important as well as American symbols and holidays.

Performance Task Synopses

Task 1: SSKCG1ab, IPS1 Students will compare and contrast rules from home and school. They will describe the results and consequences for following and breaking the rules.

Task 2: SSKH2abc Teach Mr. Panda Bear the pledge of allegiance and different rules that citizens use to show good citizenship. Then, draw a picture of how citizens show patriotism during the pledge of allegiance.

Task 3: SSKH2abc, IPS1 Students will describe the similarities and differences between the American flag and the Georgia state flag.

Task 4: SSKH2abc Design a souvenir packet for Mr. Panda Bear containing information about American symbols, holidays (Labor day and Columbus Day) and how American citizens demonstrate patriotism.
