New Mexico Society for Respiratory CareCONTINUING EDUCATION INSTRUCTION SHEETNEW MEXICO RESPIRATORY CARE LICENSURE CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTSBeginning March 1, 2004, approval for continuing education (C.E.) other than those credits received from the American Lung Association (ALA), American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) or American Heart Association (AHA) OR National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), will be processed through the NMSRC CE Committee. CONTINUING EDUCATION PROCEDUREAll of the forms needed for this process may be downloaded and printed from the NMSRC web-site at . If you do not have access to a computer or printer, you may request these forms by mail from the NMSRC at P.O. Box 35417 Station D, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87176-5417. To expedite the process, it is strongly recommended that all forms be submitted as attachments via email to NMSRC.CEU.APP@.Complete the NMSRC Practitioner CE Sponsor Application. (A sponsor is a person, firm, association or corporation applying for CE’s that are not already approved by the ALA, AARC or AHA.)Complete the NMSRC Continuing Education Category I - Form A. Print and keep for your records for 3 years the Category I Attendance Log. This will be used to track participant attendance at your event. This official form is the only form that will be accepted for this purpose.Submit the Sponsor Application AND Category I–Form A to the NMSRC CE Committee either electronically or by mail. You will receive a reply (approval or denial) within 15 working days from the day it is received by the NMSRC.The approval (or denial) for your program will be accompanied by an official documentation number. This number MUST be transferred to the appropriate place on your completed NMSRC Category I Attendance Log. SPONSOR RESPONSIBILITY The sponsor will be responsible for providing the official Certificate of Attendance at their program and will maintain attendance records for a period of 3 years. The sponsor is responsible for issuing the CE Certificate with the accurate credits to each attendee and the NMSRC approval number.Upon request from the NMSRC CE Committee, a sponsor will submit evidence (i.e. Certificate of Attendance or course materials) if it is deemed necessary to establish compliance with the rules.Each C.E. program MUST provide a mechanism for evaluation of the program by the participants. (i.e.- pre/posttests, skill check-off sheet, etc.)It is the responsibility of a sponsor to apply once annually for a program that may have repetitive use in a given year or years. (i.e. – a vendor that gives the same equipment presentation to several different hospitals). That sponsor must ensure that the official attendance log is utilized for each separate program, and the official documentation number transferred to each log.All applications must be submitted to the NMSRC CE Committee no later than August 31st for a program that is to be completed within that licensure cycle. Because September 30th is the licensure deadline, we will not process applications between September 1st and September 30th. Although, you may submit applications during this period of time for the following year’s cycle. CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSE CONTENTAll C.E. courses shall:Contribute to the advancement, extension and enhancement of professional clinical skills and scientific knowledge in the practice of respiratory care.Provide experiences, which contain scientific integrity, relevant subject matter and source materials.Be developed and presented by persons with education and/or experience in the subject matter of the program.1.0 CE credit hour is considered to 60 minutes in length. This must be actual education time only. No lunch nor break period of any length is considered in this education period for CE credit.FORMS The Form A and CE sponsor Application are designed so that the information can be easily typed in, then either sent as attachments to an email to NMSRC.CEU.APP@ (recommended) or printed and then send via mail to: NMSRC at P.O. Box 35417 Station D, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87176-5417. If you are using email, please type “CEU forms” in the subject line. Whether you are sending them via email or snail mail, you must also attach your program or a list of scheduled talks as well. The Certificate of Attendance you can download, print and then fill out or type in the information and keep copies of it either electronically, on paper or both. It must be kept by the sponsor for three years.
