MoTA Staff

Jason Ahten ¨C Safety & Membership Services Coordinator

Proceedings:

Chairman Forte called the September Technology and Maintenance Council meeting to order at 1:00 p.m.

Wednesday September 25th. The meeting was started with an explanation and review of the anti-trust

guidelines as well as self-introductions of the members present. The minutes from the July meeting that were

sent prior to the meeting were approved.

Jason Ahten gave a MoTA staff update. Jason first discussed that FMCSA has recently announced a new policy

on wireless mobile data devices for electronic screening and bypass. A carrier can now use their smart phones

and tablets to scan this information instead of having a dash full of transponders. Jason also covered the

CDL/Medical card merger again explaining what this means and who is affected. As was mentioned in the last

meeting the ELD rule continues to move forward. The e-logging rule was sent to the DOT secretary at the time

of the meeting. Jason reminded the council that it is once again time to file the HVUT form 2290. Jason gave a

legislative update where he told the council the highway funding bill died in the Senate after clearing the House.

MoTA was successful this past session getting a bill passed that clearly defines how an assessor should

apportion a carrier¡¯s property tax. Lastly Jason asked several questions to the council about the 2014

conference including what topics they wanted to discuss in Branson, sponsorships, expo hall and a possible golf

outing.

Chairman Forte next discussed the tech of the month program. We still only have 2 or 3 applications on file and

are having an issue getting enough at the time of judging. Please submit your technicians for technician of the

month.

Chairman Forte also discussed the wreaths across America campaign. Chairman Forte asked the council to

support this worthwhile effort to take wreaths to veteran¡¯s graves in the fall. A committee has been assembled

to discuss how the TMC will support this effort and how they will raise funding.

2014 SuperTech Chair John Hunn and TMC chair Nick Forte gave an update on the planning for next year¡¯s

SuperTech competition. John gave an update on the national SuperTech competition and explained how we

will modify our competition in Missouri to mirror the national competition. The TMC looped pictures of the

national competition during the meeting so the group could see how the national TMC laid out the SuperTech in

Pittsburgh. John and Nick also explained the other meetings that took place at the fall meeting.

The TMC had an opportunity for open discussion where they discussed natural gas and emissions going

forward.

The next meeting will be November 13th at the Isle of Capri Casino in Boonville and the program will be on

natural gas and dual fuel. No further business the meeting adjourned.
