Coronavirus

I am aware that there have been rumours about a staff member in school having coronavirus. Please be assured this is not the case: no staff member or their family has any signs of coronavirus at all. We will always inform parents of any developments such as this so rumours are best ignored!

The school does not have any more information about the virus than is available on the Public Health Wales website. A link to this information is now on the school website for parents. We have also been sent these further links to information today:

In general, the virus appears to be mild, especially for children. The concerns are about the spread of the virus to older and more vulnerable people. The school is operating as normal and will do so until we have advice or direction otherwise from the government, local authority or Public Health Wales. However, I would like to assure all parents that we are being very vigilant at the moment and we will inform you of any developments or concerns. In the meantime please support us by:

1) Letting us know if your child or any immediate family members have a high fever and a dry cough. There is no need to report the normal colds and bugs we get at this time as year as the symptoms are different;

2) Ensuring your child is in school; keeping them home in case will affect their education and is not necessary at the moment as there are so few cases in Wales;

3) Explaining to your child that they should wash their hands with soap; we are also working on this in school;

4) Encouraging your child not to touch their faces;

5) Showing your child how to ‘catch’ a sneeze or cough;

6) Telling your child not to share lipsalve, cups, cutlery etc. with other pupils.

Thank you very much for your continued support. It is much appreciated.

Other news:

Mr Parvin has recently presented to a number of other schools showcasing the Digital work that the pupils have completed. I was very impressed by the standard and variety of work children have produced across the school. It included film, webpages, reports, data handling and graphing!

Our children are still doing very well outside school with recent notable successes with Western Warriors Dance group and Neath Afan Gymnastics. Well done all!

The children in the juniors are enjoying their work on Rich Tasks, all linked to their history topics. They are using a range of digital, literacy and numeracy skills as well as developing their teamwork and problem solving!

We have been delighted to welcome Mr Bramwell into school to support our Rugby sessions. Thank you!

The junior children will be involved in a tree planting session on Friday with around 100 trees being planted in the school grounds. This will support our ECO work.
