These questions are meant to guide you through the story. After reading pg. 181 How are the plants on this page the same and different?Answer: They are the same because they all have pointy things that can hurt you. Roses have sharp prickles on their stems., hawthorns have woody thorns, and holly leaves have sharp points and poisonous berries.· What clue does the author give to help you understand the effect of touching these plants?Answer: The word OW tells what you might say if you touch the plant. After reading pgs. 182-183What causes and effects do you see on these pages?Answer: If you touch a stinging nettle, then the needle-like hairs will release a chemical that makes you itch; if you touch poison ivy, you will get an oil on you that will make you itchy; if you touch a sensitive plant, it will fold up its leaves. Why did the author organize the selection this way?The author wanted to teach the reader how different plants protect themselves by telling what could happen if a person or animal touches them.Optional Your student can use iRead – it is one of the options on the first page once you login to HMH.Do the turn and talk questions for the story on the HMH site.Your student can take the quiz over Don’t Touch Me on the HMH site.Your student can practice the Spelling List for this week. This should be done in their best handwriting and the corrections that were made on their rough draft should be corrected in their final copy. I would double check this as they are going because a lot of students miss some corrections on their final copy. Also everything that is written on their rough draft should be on their final copy. Some students think it is ok to shorten their workload by not adding all the sentences. ................
