Student NameTeacher NameCourse Title & NumberDate MLA formattedMG Research Design (Template- change to yours)MY TOPICThe topic I want to concentrate on is xyz, blah, blah, blah. I want to explore … and so forth (a paragraph about what I want to write about. Might be similar to the one I used in the idea exploration. Make sure it is specific enough to give the reader an idea of what you want to invoke in your paper. Where might you be going, potentially? Of course this could change as you research and again as you write and that is okay as this is preliminary thinking.WHAT I ALREADY KNOWThis section highlights your own awareness of what knowledge you possess about your topic. The length here will be dependent on whether it is something you have been interested in for a long time or a new interest you have recently discovered. Be thorough in trying to call up the info in your head and the reasons that you know these things. It is okay to include things you are unsure of (just make sure to verify them later).WHAT I WANT TO LEARNHere I write some about what I want to find out (not really my questions – those come later) just a general idea of where my research might take me. Expand if possible.THE ORIGINS OF MY RESEARCHNow we get to the why I am interested. This is the story of my own curiosity. Why do I want to know about xyz, blah, blah, blah? Let me tell you. QUESTIONS FOR MY RESEARCHQuestion 1 – These questions may be something you could actually find the answer to, but since you don’t know yet, list ANY questions that cross your mind. If you find the answers, cool. If not, that’s okay too – because some questions will lead to new questions and some answers will also lead to new questions. This isn’t an end-all-be-all list, just a jumping off point.Question 2Question 3Question 4Question 5Question 6Question 7Question 8Question 9Question 10Question 11Question 12Or more – as many as you need. PLAN/SKETCH/OUTLINEIn this space create a loose outline (or a real one if you like outlines) or just write out your plan. You might consider what you hope to write about, what direction you’d like the overall piece to take, what order you think you might move in. You could also look through the major genres that you are REQUIRED to include in this project and muse about how you might approach each one. For the research piece indicate your “angle” – PROPOSAL, POSITION, or EVALUATION. You could add in notes on other genre ideas that may have crossed your mind (how might you use dialogue or screenplay or listing or extra poems or . . . .). You don’t have to stick to this plan but it will give you a way to start thinking concretely about your work. Generate ideas here! (In whatever form makes sense to you – and is neat and organized).ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHYList here 4 to 5 legit sources – MLA style entry*(use a wizard, build by hand, I don’t care, but MLA style entry!). If you would, please place them in alphabetical order. After each, include a short explanation as to what the source has to offer, how you might use it, why it works as info for your piece, etc. (This ensures you aren’t wasting time gathering sources with no merit that you won’t be able to use). Others may be articles, internet sources, interviews, etc.Basic for citing books:Authorlast, Authorfirst. Book Title. City of Publication: Publisher, year.
