center-43815000Annual MeetingCall for PresentationsNovember 14 and 15, 2020About Pennsylvania Master Naturalist Pennsylvania Master Naturalist is a statewide partnership initiative that aims to connect people with their local ecosystems through intensive natural science training and local conservation service work. It is a venture directed toward developing a local corps of “master volunteers and service providers” to offer education, outreach and service dedicated to the understanding and conservation of natural resources and natural areas within their communities. A Pennsylvania Master Naturalist volunteer is an individual with a passion for the natural world who participates in an intensive training program and uses his or her knowledge by giving back to the community through volunteer service.Annual Meeting OverviewOur Annual Meeting is a celebration of our volunteers as well as an opportunity for them to grow their naturalist knowledge, exchange ideas with others, and obtain tools to enhance their volunteer service work. Whilst our primary audience comprises certified PA Master Naturalist volunteers and trainees, members of our partner organizations may also attend. Attendance ranges between 70 - 100 participants. This year’s virtual experience will reflect this year’s theme, “Nature for Everyone”.Presentations typically include topics on the theme of the meeting, natural history of Pennsylvania, volunteer service projects, skill development in nature interpretation and education, interactive workshops, field-based learning, and tools and resources.2020 Annual MeetingThis year’s meeting will be held virtually on Saturday, November 14th and Sunday, November 15th. We are seeking proposals for the following presentation types:Oral Presentation: Oral presentations are limited to 40 minutes which should include 30 minutes for the actual presenting and 10 minutes for questions. Oral presentations should highlight the theme, natural history topics, volunteer projects and issues relevant to our audience.Workshop Presentation: Workshops can be 60 minutes, which should be interactive and aim to provide participants with new skills applicable to Master Naturalist participants. Presenters will have access to Zoom and their breakout rooms for small group work and discussion.Field Sessions: Field Presentations can be up to 1.5 hours and would include an outdoor component or tour of a facility/site. Content should emphasize natural history interpretation of a natural area and/or field identification of wildlife and plants; or tour of nature centers, museums, demonstration gardens, natural areas, green infrastructure, and volunteer projects. In addition, please contact us if you would be interested in help organize a regional or chapter-based Bioblitz (iNaturalist Project) during the meeting.Panel Presentation: Looking for partners, member organizations, and Master Naturalists for involvement in a panel on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the outdoors and nature programs and organizations. Please contact us if you are currently conducting service in this area or working to address as part of your organization or program.All presenters are welcome to submit a proposal for presentations. Presenters may include Master Naturalist Volunteers or Trainees, natural resource professionals, PA Master Naturalist Member Organizations and program partners, naturalists and outdoor writers/artists.Submission RequirementsIndividuals wishing to present in any of the above categories are invited to email a proposal abstract by September 18, 2020. Abstracts must include presenter’s name, presentation title, any affiliation, presenter contact information (mailing address, phone, email), and presentation format (oral, workshop, field or poster), and program description. Abstracts should be up to 150 words (max) and submitted to mrafferty@.Additional information regarding the Annual Meeting will be available on the Pennsylvania Master Naturalist () website by early October.
