President’s Message

Greetings fellow IFMA St. Louis members,

These are the times that try our souls. We paraphrase that famous line from Thomas Paine more than 240 years ago since we know we are living during a challenging, unprecedented time.

First and foremost, we know that your, your colleagues’ and your family’s safety and health are of the utmost concern. Please do all you can to ensure this whether you have been asked to work from home or your position requires that you continue to report to work.

Our chapter has played a role in ensuring that we stop the spread of this insidious, invisible enemy. We made the decision to cancel our March program as well as our New Member Social on April 16 to avoid contact in close quarters. We will determine soon if it’s advisable to move this new member event to June.

We also know that the Industry Expo scheduled for May 13 is on hold, with plans to move this to August 18th.

Needless to say, we are constantly monitoring the situation and following the advice of our authorities and health experts. Such decisions are never easy but certainly necessary as this situation unfolds.

Yes, it’s painful for organizations such as ours since we find ourselves distanced at a time when we need to be together more than ever. But we would also remind you that this also demonstrates the true value of your connection through IFMA. Please use your network to find ways to share insights, resources and your friendship through technology, a phone call, an email or even an old-fashioned note to your colleagues. Social isolation doesn’t mean we can’t continue to connect.

Remember as well that we remain committed to helping every member find a way to navigate these troubling times:

• We will remain connected through technology. You're needed where you are. So, Facility Fusion is coming to you. Facility Fusion will move forward virtually on April 15. Registration opens on April 6, and it’s extremely affordable.

• You will find a variety of resources on IFMA International’s Knowledge tab to stay abreast of news, resources and information to help with emergency preparedness. We also provide updates on the IFMA St. Louis web site.

• This may also be an opportune time to grow your knowledge and your career by earning professional certification. We remain committed to offering scholarships for members who attain their CFM, FMP or SFP certification.

• We also know that the economic turmoil created by this pandemic may impact your job in one way or another. We can provide support through both our local and international organizations. IFMA St. Louis gives you an avenue to both post your resume and review current job openings under our Resources tab. IFMA International also offers a national and international employment database.

Indeed, these are the times that try us, challenge us and unite us. We remain steadfast and committed to helping members through the days ahead. We can and will work together to get through the struggles. We will provide every resource, tool and information possible to support you in the coming weeks and to position you for the day when we recover and move forward.

Stay safe. Stay healthy. Stay connected.

Best regards,

Jeff Touchette
