Vol MMXXI No. 5 Bordentown Council 570, Knights of Columbus, Bordentown, November, 2018

Grand Knights Message:

Brothers, as Halloween is behind us and we focus more on the Thanksgiving season it reminds us of how fortunate we are and reminds us of one of our pillars of our Order: Charity.

Over the next few months we have a lot of activities that will touch people who are in need. Be it our Coats for Kids program or our Thanksgiving Food Preparation, I urge each of you to get involved.

Here is a list of things we just wrapped up and some of the things that we will be working on.

• Regional Soccer Challenge – Was held at St. John’s in Allentown, there was a lot of good competition and unfortunately none of our kids advanced. For our 2nd year we were very pleased with the turnout and look forward to ongoing success.

• Halloween Spooktacular – We held our 3rd annual kids Halloween party on Saturday, October 27th. We had great response from Brothers to help with this event and had a great turnout. I do not have the official count, but I believe it was in the neighborhood of about 125 people. I want to specifically thanks both Rob Pecht and Bob Sherrier and his wife Babette for putting on a great event. Also, a special shootout to Bernie Sheridan and his wife for providing homemade mini-donuts and cotton candy, the kids (and volunteers) loved them.

• Our Lady of Guadalupe – Our parish will be getting a torch the week of November 10th. It will arrive for the 5pm mass at St. Mary’s and be on display with nightly events both at St. Mary’s and Holy Assumption until it is handed off to the next parish the following Saturday, November 17th at the 4pm mass at Holy Assumption.

Our council will be hosting the torch on Monday, November 12th. We will be showing a video about our Lady of Guadalupe made by Supreme and narrated by Jim Caviezel.

VOLUNTEERS WILL BE NEEDED. We will be serving a pasta dinner beginning around 6:30pm and show the video around 7:30pm. We will hold this event in the school hall. If you can help please reach out to either myself or Rob Pecht.

If you want further information about Our Lady of Guadalupe please visit this website

• Coats for Kids – We are in full swing for the drive, but if you would like to donate, please visit our website for more details.

• Thanksgiving Food Prep – Brothers, Thanksgiving is less than a month away. Per usual, we will be preparing meals for the less fortunate at McGrath Hall in Roebling. Anyone who would like to assist, including family members, can sign up for the different shifts that we have via Signoff Genius the link can be found on our website.

• Annual Council Christmas Party – Brothers, I know that we are usually focused on charity, but we also need to remember our other core values: Unity and Fraternity. What better way than spending part of your holiday season with your family and brother knights and their families. Please find enclosed the Christmas Dinner Flyer with more information or visit our website for more information.

• Shop Rite Raffle – In addition, also enclosed is our Shop Rite raffle fundraiser. Please complete and send back in before the deadline.

Remember our goal is to continue to build on our traditions of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism so please keep speaking about the Knights with your friends and neighbors about joining. The more good men we have to continue to build our council the better.

Finally, I just want to continue to remind everyone that beginning January 1, 2019 our yearly council dues will increase from $20 to $25. The reason for this increase is due to the per capita increase at the state level from $4.60 per brother to $6.60 per brother.

In addition, with other administrative costs of running the council over time increasing (newsletter expenses, meeting materials, etc.) the need for this increase is overdue.

Vivat Jesus,

Ron.
