Advanced Placement English Literature Ms. Fletcher, Room S 202English Teacher ExtraordinaireGreetings! My name is Ms. Terri Fletcher! I am your child’s instructor. I graduated from Elon College with a degree in English Education. In addition, I have a Master’s degree in English and Afro-American Literature from N.C. A&T State University. Moreover, I am Nationally Board Certified in English and Language Arts. Currently, I also teach English 111 and work in the Writing Center at Guilford Technical Community College. Consequently, it is my pleasure to be able to share in the learning process with your child this semester! In class, we will focus on the guidelines of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study as dictated by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Students enrolled in Advanced Placement English IV/English Literature, “will engage in the careful reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature. Through the close reading of selected texts, students should deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure to their readers. As they read, students should consider a work's structure, style, and themes as well as such smaller-scale elements as the use of figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone.” Furthermore, students may read selected poems and works such as Othello and Wuthering Heights. In an effort to increase students’ vocabulary and in preparation for the SAT, students will be assigned vocabulary units. Furthermore, students will learn to apply conventions of grammar and language usage. Finally, students will be responsible for completing a Senior Project in accordance with specific requirements. -114300154305Supply List1 Three-ring binder (at least 1 ? inches)Subject dividers (at least 10 – 1 labeled “Vocabulary” and 1 for each unit)White notebook paperBlue or black ink pens and #2 pencilsFlash driveMaterials specific to the Senior Project00Supply List1 Three-ring binder (at least 1 ? inches)Subject dividers (at least 10 – 1 labeled “Vocabulary” and 1 for each unit)White notebook paperBlue or black ink pens and #2 pencilsFlash driveMaterials specific to the Senior Project3352800262890GradingMajor Assignments (70%) – Unit tests, Final draft essays, and Research ProjectsMinor Assignments (30%) – Quizzes, Class discussions, Participation, Worksheets, and Daily assignments*The Senior Project counts 25% of the student’s ENTIRE grade.00GradingMajor Assignments (70%) – Unit tests, Final draft essays, and Research ProjectsMinor Assignments (30%) – Quizzes, Class discussions, Participation, Worksheets, and Daily assignments*The Senior Project counts 25% of the student’s ENTIRE grade.Cell Phone UsageCell phones are to be turned OFF and OUT OF SIGHT.
