COURSE OBJECTIVES: The AP Macroeconomics course is designed as an initial college level course in Macroeconomics. The ultimate goal of the course is to prepare for the AP Exam in May. The 2020 AP Macro exam will be on: Thurs., May 14, 2018 at Noon. The Fall final will be an AP Exam given during finals week (Not to be confused with the Spring final exam for which will be on either Thurs., May 7 @ 3:30, and/or Sat. May 9 @ 8:00 am for the spring semester). Passing the exam will result in college credit at many colleges and universities. Economics is also a California and BUSD requirement to graduate!! You will need to practice good habits that will lead to a successful transition to college & life!!

• TO DEVELOP ACADEMIC ACHIEVERS THAT WILL DEMONSTRATE THE ECONOMIC SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE NECESSARY FOR ACCEPTANCE IN THE WORLD OF WORK OR COLLEGE (ESLR). THIS IS A REQUIRED COURSE FOR GRADUATION!

• TO GIVE STUDENTS AMPLE OPPORTUNITY TO IMPROVE THEIR WRITING, SPEAKING, CRITICAL THINKING, AND CONSENSUS BUILDING SKILLS. (ESLR).

• TO DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO USE VARIOUS STRATEGIES TO GATHER, PROCESS AND EVALUATE A VARIETY OF FINANCIAL AND ECONOMIC DATA UTILIZING TECHNOLOGY (MY WEBSITE) AND RESEARCH (ESLR)

GRADING POLICY:

Total Points: Classwork, quizzes, projects, homework and exams (including a final exam) are all put into one basket of points and will determine your grade. Please do your work in order to accumulate the maximum number of points.

A+ = 98-100% of available points

A = 93–97.99%, A- = 90–92.99%

B+ = 88-89.99%, B = 83–87.99%, B- = 80-82.99%

C+ = 78-79.99%, C = 73–77.99%, C- = 70-72.99%

D+ = 68-69.99%, D = 63–67.99%, D- = 60-62.99%

F = 59.99% and lower

MAKE-UP WORK:

• Make-ups will be allowed only for excused absences/tardies for exams, homework, classwork, and quizzes. Be prepared to make up work upon returning after one day’s absence. You will have extra days to make up missing work and exams depending upon the number of days absent. Make up quizzes/exams will be given during lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays!!

• Late work will count beginning at 50% off the assigned points and no late work is allowed after one week. {Remember: half the points are better than no points}

• Students are responsible for their education and should always see the teacher to determine what is missing or needs to be made up.

ASSIGNMENTS:

The expectation is that you come to class prepared. All assignments are to be completed and neatly and legibly for full credit. Keep assignments in a notebook and they must be available to be produced at all times. DO NOT THROW ANYTHING AWAY!! Extra credit is rarely offered in this course.

HOMEWORK:

This is a demanding, college-level course requiring daily homework. Expect to spend at least 6 hours per week on work for this course. Homework should be prepared for each lesson since it is a springboard leading into the next lesson.

EXAMINATIONS & QUIZZES:

Exams will be given at the end of each unit. If you are absent, it is up to the student to arrange the time for the make-up. A comprehensive final will be given at the end of the semester that will be similar to a regular AP exam. There will be several review sessions before the final exam that take place outside of regular school hours. These sessions are strongly advised in order to be adequately prepared for both the class final and the AP exam.

OTHER ASSIGNMENTS:

These may include a variety of hands on assignments which will demonstrate your ability to be effective communicators, researchers, writers & critical thinkers. An MLA RESEARCH term paper will be required.

ATTENDANCE:

One of the skills that will continue to keep you employable in life is to be on time and limit your absences!! If you are TARDY and/or UNEXCUSED a combination of eight times, your citizenship grade will be dropped to a “U”. Students that come late should wait next to the door until I can correct the attendance. If the student is unexcused tardy, no make up of the opener will be allowed.

CITIZENSHIP, WORK HABITS AND DUE PROCESS:

Grades will be determined by a student’s behavior, efforts, preparedness, and attendance. Classroom discipline will include a verbal warning followed by a call or email home. If the behavior continues to be a problem, a referral, classroom suspension and/or parent conference may be required per BHS and BUSD guidelines.

CLASSROOM PBIS GUIDELINES:

1. No food, gum or drink in the class. Leave food/drinks on table next to the door. Water is ok.

2. No CELL PHONES, HATS, EAR BUDS/Phones, I-PODS/MP3’s in class. They will be taken away by a campus supervisor and your citizenship grade will be lowered to a U.

3. Be prepared to learn each day with your assignments, notes, notebooks, dittos, pens, pencils, and other necessary school supplies. Have your notes and textbook out when the bell rings.

4. Please raise your hands to be recognized, avoid calling out & stay in your seats unless directed otherwise (seating charts will be used)

5. RESPECT the rights and property of others and not interfere with their education.

6. ACADEMIC HONESTY: Please see BHS Academic Honesty Policy. Cheating or copying is inexcusable and you may fail the assignment (this is especially true for homework and projects), have your parents notified, and receive a lowered citizenship grade.
