Text: Psychology, David Myers, 8th edition.

AP Psychology may be the first social science course many of you will be exposed to, so do not become frustrated with ideas and terminology that may be unfamiliar to you. As we go more in depth into the material, the frustration should diminish. I hope that you will also find this course interesting.

AP Course Demands: It should be understood that the expectations of the course are consistent with those of any Advanced Placement course. Students should expect a workload similar to what they would have if they were to complete this course at the college level. This includes extensive reading, active involvement in class discussions, taking notes, preparing for exams and doing research.

Tips for success/rules for class:

1. Read the textbook.

2. Be on time. The tardy policy will be strictly enforced.

3. Read the textbook.

4. In the unlikely event that you must miss class be sure to make up any work in a timely manner.

5. Read the textbook.

6. Stay in your seat until you are dismissed.

7. Read the textbook.

Exam schedule 1st quarter (approximate):

Intro and Chapter 1: Thursday, September 2

Chapter 2: Tuesday, September 21

Chapters 3 and 4: Tuesday, October 5

Chapters 5 and 6: Thursday, October 21

The AP Exam: The AP exam will be administered on May 2, 2011. I will do everything in my power to help you get ready, but ultimately you are responsible for your learning.

Research Project: There will be a major research project each quarter during the school year. More information on the first project will follow soon.

Classroom Issues: This will be our room for the entire year. Please treat it with respect and help to keep it neat and clean. Please also refrain from leaving trash behind.

Grades for the first quarter will be determined as follows:

Unit Tests 60%

Quiz/Homework/Class work grades 20%

Research project 20%

Make-up Tests and Homework: If you miss a test or homework due to an excused absence, you must make up the work in accordance with the school make up policy. You must take test make-ups before or after school by appt. Late work will be penalized a letter grade per day.

Academic Honor Policy: Cheating will not be tolerated. Mount Tabor has an honor code which is published in your handbook. I fully expect every student to abide by the honor code.

As your instructor, I will do everything to make the course both interesting and challenging. I will give my best effort, and I ask the same of each of you. Please come to class prepared and alert.

**Some of the topics we will cover may touch on issues that are personal to you. If there are any topics that you feel uncomfortable with, please let me know and we can work around it. Please also let me know about any learning difficulties that you may have so that proper accommodations may be met.**

I hope to get to know each of you personally and will be available throughout the year for assistance.
