COURSE DESCRIPTION:
ADVANCED PLACEMENT U.S. HISTORY
(Grade 11) (1 Year) (10 credits)
Prerequisite: The student has earned an "A" grade both semesters in World History and/or recommendation of the World History instructor.
Advanced Placement United States History is an elective class for juniors that satisfies the U.S. History requirement for graduation and offers the possibility of college credit upon passing the AP test at the end of the year. The course utilizes a college-level text, is fast-paced and is designed to enable students to be successful on the AP test. In this course students will be required to master a broad base of historical knowledge and analyze it effectively on tests and assignments. Historical thinking skills and thematic instruction are woven into nine units, each representing a period of American history. Grades of C and higher receive an extra point when computing GPAs. All students are strongly encouraged to take the AP test at year's end, though it is not required.
This course meets an a-g UC/CSU requirement
RATIONALE FOR THE COURSE:
AP US History offers a challenging, college-level alternative to the mandated United States History course for those students willing and able to transcend high school level work. This course will greatly help in preparing students for further college-level work following high school.

COURSE OUTLINE
Each teacher is required to submit the following course information, among other information, to the College Board. A new instructor will be required to complete the process before the College Board will approve the course for that teacher at Paradise High . See course audit submitted and approved for the current instructor by the College Board in 2008 as well as course material distributed by the College Board for specific information about the course
