On behalf of Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company and the Korn Ferry Consulting Group I am pleased serve as your host for your upcoming visit from July 17-20 to the Fox Cities of Northeastern Wisconsin. The long-range forecast calls for sunny skies, high temperatures in the mid-70’s, low temperature in the upper 50’s and very little chance of rain.My goal is to help you learn about the culture, opportunities, people and personality of the Fox Valley. We will tour, meet people and explore the region as best we can. As you review the schedule below, please know there is great flexibility during your stay. My schedule of events are suggestions. Perhaps you would like more time without me as your guide, or you have researched something that is not in my schedule that you would like to see, or you prefer a different style of dining, etc. We will adapt as need be. Comfortable clothing, particularly footwear, is advised. And please, bring bathing suits!Here we go!Thursday, July 178:58 am Arrive Outagamie County Airport. I will meet you there. Secure rental car. Proceed to the Copperleaf Hotel. I have arranged for an early check-in.9:50 am Tour the Fox Cities Performing Art Center. We will walk as it is two blocks west of the hotel. 11:00 am Visit the Trout Museum of the Arts, also a short walk. Two blocks east of the hotel.11:45 am Lunch at the Copper Rock Café, next to the Trout Museum.12:30 pm Tour the east side of Appleton, its neighborhoods and Appleton East High School.1:45 pm Guided tour with the admissions staff at Lawrence University.4:30 pm Meet with Lawrence University President Mark Burstein.5:00 pm Return to the hotel to rest and relax Dinner: There are several nice restaurants within walking distance of the hotel: Il Angolo Resto Bar (Mediterranean), Lombardi Steak House (Casual), Cheyenne’s Sports Bar (great sandwiches and pizza). 5:30-8:30 pm There is a free outdoor concert with a good rock band called The Love Monkeys at Houdini Plaza, a short walk from the Hotel.Appleton Trivia: Famous magician Harry Houdini immigrated to the United States from Budapest in the late 1880’s. His first American home was in Appleton. Watch for Houdini references while you are here.Friday, July 18Breakfast at the hotel or the Queen Bee Restaurant, a short walk from the hotel.8:30 am Depart for a driving tour of north Appleton. We will explore housing options, Appleton North High School, a few of the six Baptist churches in Appleton, and Fox Valley Lutheran High School. We will then wind through Appleton and Menasha to Neenah; stop me if you see something interesting!11:30 am Arrive at Zuppas restaurant for lunch. We will have a private dining area. Three executive couples from Kimberly Clark Corporation have been invited to join us. They have moved here from Texas, Alabama and North Carolina. They will share their experiences regarding moving here.They may also bring their children.1:00 pm Tour Neenah. We will visit Neenah High School, parks, the Bergstrom Mahler Museum, see local industry, walk Main Street and stop at the public library, with considerable time available to view housing options.5:00 pm Return to the hotel to relax and refreshDinner: I recommend a traditional Wisconsin Fish Fry at Mark’s East Side Restaurant7:00 pmBaseball! Appleton is the home to the Wisconsin Timber Rattler’s minor league baseball team. They are part of the Milwaukee Brewers Farm club system. Games are lively and entertaining!9:30pm Return to the hotel. Do not feel compelled to stay the entire game.Saturday, July 19Suggest a light breakfast at the hotel. Saturdays in the summer bring the downtown farmer’s market, with several blocks of College Avenue closed off and multiply vendors selling their wares from 8:00 am - noon. Let’s stroll to see what smells and delights tempt you! 10:00 am Leave for boat rideField and Stream Magazine once named Appleton as the #1 sport destination for outdoor activity in the U.S. We will travel to Waupaca, 45 minutes west of Appleton and cruise the deep clean glacial lakes of central Wisconsin. Wear a bathing suit! We can lunch either before or after the boat ride at Clear Water Harbor. Snacks will also be provided on the boat.2:00 pm Return to the Fox Cities. We will take a less traveled route back and stop at the Zittau Cheese Factory. We will also take a driving tour through the Kimberly Clark Research Campus on the west side of Neenah. 4:00 pm Return to the hotel to refresh and relax5:00 pm Tour of Jewelers Mutual facility and dinner with Dave Lundgren We discussed the possibility of an alternative activity for Ashlee and Emilee if they did not want to be part of the dinner meeting with Dave Lundgren. Yet to be determined.8:00 pm Return to the hotelSunday, July 208:00 amDepart hotel. Breakfast at the Seven Angels Restaurant.8:45 amTour the Heart of the Valley: Kimberly and Kaukauna10:30 am Arrive High Cliff State Park. View housing options near the park. Climb the observation tower and get a bird’s eye view of the Fox Cities.12:00 pmReturn to the hotel for checkout and to pick up the rental car.12:30 pm Lunch near the Fox River Mall, recommendations SAP or Carmela’s1:15 pm Shopping at the Fox River Mall.Appleton is considered a shopping destination. Billed as the largest year-round tourist destination north of Milwaukee in the state of Wisconsin, the mall has something for everyone.
