CARES Act Emergency Grant

Under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), CAAN Academy has been authorized to distribute emergency cash grants to students as part of the funding allocated in the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF).

CAAN Academy of Nursing’s Students who are being financially impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak now have access to emergency funding. Provided through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

The college has received a funding package of $62,988.00 to use in part to assist students with expenses related to disruptions to their education due to issues related to the pandemic. Here are a few details about how this funding will work, and how you can apply:

•  Students will apply for funding via an online application process, where you will describe how you have been impacted.

• Students must be eligible for financial aid.

• Students who have been financially impacted by the coronavirus outbreak are encouraged to apply for funding.

• These funds are similar to grants, and do not need to be repaid. Students are eligible up to maximum of $912.00.

• Although, there is no standard award amount for these grants, funding is limited and awarded based on the level of student need.

Eligibility Requirements to receive Emergency Assistance funds

Students who have filled out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) have demonstrated their eligibility status previously. Students who have not filled out a FASFA may still be eligible, provided they meet the following criteria set forth in Section 484 of the HEA:

• Be a US Citizen or eligible non-citizen

• Have completed a 2019-2020 FAFSA

• Be enrolled in a degree or certificate during Spring of 2020

• Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements

• Males: must be registered with the Selective Service

Ineligible students

You are not eligible to receive funds if you are one of the following:

• Currently not meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress

• Are in default of a federal student loan

Cares Act funding is available to currently enrolled students who are in need of additional financial resources as a result of the national COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of the emergency funds distributed by CAAN Academy as part of the CARES Act is to assist students with unexpected costs due to the disruption of campus operations related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. These costs include, but are not limited to:

• Food, including groceries and meals

• Housing costs and living expenses due to relocation or other circumstances

• Health care and/or childcare costs

• Technology-related expenses, such as computer equipment or internet access

• Course materials

• Unexpected transportation or moving expenses related to relocation
