In Ethics, we’ve discussed several theories. Which of the following do you think works best for you in your daily life, and why? – Virtue, Duty, or Consequentialist Theories. Try to use a real-world example to support your response. (Worth 5 points) We utilized the Baby Doe Case (the 1982 case of a baby born with severe Downs Syndrome and an Esophageal Fistula) to explore our Applied Ethics theories before we launched into our core issues. Choose two of the Applied Ethical theories and discuss both sides of the Baby Doe Case from the perspective of each theory. (Worth 15 points)We discussed several biomedical issues (abortion, stem cells, cloning, and euthanasia, in addition to the topics we brought up through our presentations). As part of that we learned about Informed Consent/Patient Rights. Why is informed consent so essential to biomedical ethics, and how might it play an essential role in any one of the topics we discussed in our Applied Ethics unit (abortion, stem cells, cloning, and euthanasia)? (Worth 15 points) Questions 4, 5, and 6 will ask you to address each of the issues we discussed. Please remember to use the words permitted, forbidden, and/or required in your statements and to support your statement with the Applied Ethical theories from the list we used in class. Write good, solid, college-level paragraphs. Please give your ethical statement about abortion and support it using the Applied Ethical theories from the list provided. You may put qualifiers or limiters as you see fit within your statement, but please avoid overly emotional or blatantly illogical statements. (Worth 20 points)Please provide your ethical statement about stem cell and/or cloning and support it using the Applied Ethical theories from the list provided. You may refer to sources or types of stem cells or cloning as qualifiers within your statement if you would like, but please avoid overly emotional and illogical statements. (Worth 20 points)Please provide your ethical statement about Euthanasia/Assisted Suicide and support it using the Applied Ethical theories from the list provided. You may treat the two as the same issue or separate them if you would like, but please avoid overly emotional and illogical statements. (Worth 20 points)One of our last topics was Environmental Ethics. The key to environmental ethics is achieving the balance of protecting our environment while meeting the needs of mankind, especially the least among us. We looked at three approaches, non-anthropocentricism, anthropocentricism, and a moderate view. Which of the three do you think the world is operating under and why, and which of the three should the world be operating under and why? Please use specific examples to support your statements. (Worth 15 points)Our last topic was Business Ethics, and we tied it to the ideas from Aristotle’s Virtue Ethics. Choose two or three virtues (either ones we talked about or others that you value) that you think are ESSENTIAL to a business for it to be run in an ethical way. Please discuss their importance and use specific examples of how a business should incorporate those virtues in their business practices. (Worth 15 Points) ................
