Toxicologist within the Hazard and Risk Assessment Group; work includes evaluation and writing of documents determining toxicity and human risk assessment associated with pesticides and chemicals based on laboratory in vivo and in vitro tests. These include assessments for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Homeland Security. Assessments written include those on chemicals used as color additives, food additives, water contaminants, animal products and animal food contaminants. Also serve in the capacity of back-up veterinarian for the ORNL Laboratory Animal veterinarian to provide on-site care of fish and wildlife. Member of the ORNL Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC) since 2006 and appointed Vice-Chairman of the ORNL ACUC in 2015.

Experience in research began at LRRI with involvement in many projects utilizing beagles, primates and rats. Responsible for veterinary duties at the facility for approximately 200 beagles, as well as study coordinator, including the write-up of protocols, standard operating procedures and final reports. The position of animal care manager was added to duties while at LRRI, which involved daily management of approximately 15 to 20 employees involved in the care of mice, rats, dogs, and primates.
