LP 10 – Unit 7 Drafting Day – 6/7 and 6/11During class today, you will be doing the following:Continuing your research because you do not have enough completed to work on the rough draft.Continue working on the rough draft of your final project. You will need to bring a paper copy to class the next period to switch with another person for final peer editing.Advice for you.You need to have direct quotations from the UDHR. If you can use direct quotations in other CD’s that will help you get an ‘8’. It will be hard for me to give you an ‘8’ if you do not directly quote text.Introduction – Remember the funnel technique. General to specific. Answer the questions.Background – Provide the background information about the topics you are researching. Which areas of the world or nations are involved? What type of people and groups are involved? Women? Teenagers? Steel workers? Names of groups – militias, unions, etc… Be specific. Include the people violating the rights and the people whose rights are being violated.Is there a basic history that has led to your situation or situations? Provide a little information about that history.You could give the background of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Causes and Consequences – Pick the two most important causes and the two most important consequences from all of your research.Explain why those are important for understanding your situations. What are the ASPIRE connections for the causes or consequences? Include in the CM’s.UDHR – Human Rights ViolationsWhich articles are being violated the most or which articles are the most the serious violations? Provide specific language from the articles?Connect to ASPIRE categories – extend and elaborate on the effects of the violations for CM’s.Explain the other side – how can someone justify the actions that you say are human rights violations?UN Solutions – come up with What can the UN do about these rights violations?Write about what can be done in general across the world?Write about what can be done in a specific situation that you researched? A specific place.LP 11 – Unit 7 – Peer Editing and Speech Practice – 6/12 and 6/13If you have not finished your rough draft – then finish your rough draft. After you finish your rough draft, then go to number II below.Please complete the peer editing sheet that I have provided for you.Have one peer read, mark up your text and complete the evaluation form.Go to number III below when your peer editing is complete.Practice your speech.Read through your rough draft and highlight the most important parts. You should include some TS’s, CD’s, and CM’s. Do not just list facts. Connect your most important facts to your main ideas. Please include at least one recommendation to the UN.After you have highlighted the most important sections, practice reading through them all – time yourself.If your speech is too long, then cut out parts that are not as important.If your speech is too short, then highlight some new sections to add.Go to number IV below when you have practiced your plete your final draft. Write notes for your speech onto a note card or half sheet of paper and practice your speech!!!When you come to the last class period you need to have the following to turn in:Please put your papers in this order:On the top of the stack - Scoring Guide – please assess yourself on the scoring guide. You will turn in your final Notebook Check at the beginning of the last full day of class – Pd. 5 and 7 (6/18 – Monday) and Pd. 2, 4, 6 (6/19 – Tuesday). Please keep your binder – only turn in your Rubric/Reflection and your stack of Unit 7 work. ................
