Role Summary

The University of Derby (UK) in partnership with the Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes (Mexico) have been awarded a British Council Newton Fund

12-month Grant to carry out a Research & Development (R&D) project to deploy a Monitoring and Control Smart Farming System for Sustainable and Efficient

Farming Operations. The project corresponds to a proof-of-concept validation of (1) an electronic sensor board prototype, (2) a wireless sensor network

(WSN) prototype including hardware (HW) and software (SW), (3) a crop yield forecasting system prototype (mathematical model/s and software components) to

be used within a Smart Farming framework. The project involves analytical and laboratory studies (e.g. mathematical modelling, analytical derivations,

computer-based simulations, and laboratory experiments). It is also expected that physical experimentation may be carried out in relatively small

agricultural fields due to the nature of the project. This Smart Farming Project involves a multidisciplinary team of researchers and industrialists. An

opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant (RA) Engineer in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) to work on this exciting project that requires

sound EEE knowledge and skills for deploying and testing several hardware and software prototypes. Moreover, if you have modelling and simulation skills

alongside sound knowledge in Statistics and Machine Learning, the Technical & Scientific Manager for the UoD-UAA Smart Farming Project wants to hear from

you.

Principal Accountabilities

Under the guidance of the Principal Investigator, carry out research activity to deploy electronic and electrical prototypes for the UoD-UAA Smart Farming

Project;

To deploy a wireless sensor network (hardware & software) for the UoD-UAA Smart Farming Project;

To deploy several software tools/components required for the UoD-UAA Smart Farming Project;

To carry out all validation and verification tests required for the project;

To contribute to the documentation of the project through the drafting of reports and/or other documents;
