Greek Mythology Research Paper:

Helpful Hints & Reminders!

1. Remember, your rough and final draft research paper should not be made up entirely of quotes or paraphrases, but you need at least 2 quotes or paraphrases in your first 3 paragraphs (this does not include the conclusion—obviously ()

2. You MUST cite any quotes or paraphrases that you use. Here’s an example:

Athena is said to have been the goddess of warfare (Sampson).

• Cite using the author’s last name. If you don’t know the author’s last name, use the title of the article or book that you took the information from. If you do that, it will look like this:

Athena is the said to have been the goddess of warfare (“Greek Myths and Stories”).

• Notice that the period always goes AFTER the last parentheses.

3. On your rough and final draft, all of your quotes and paraphrases must have transitions and lead ins. Here is an example using a quote:

For example, Athena’s name is closely related to the city of Athens because “her name essentially means Many Athens” (Sampson).

4. You must include your own commentary after every quote or paraphrase. This should provide more detail and/or expand upon your quote or paraphrase. Let’s say you use a quote in your paper about your god or goddess’s physical characteristics. In your commentary after the quote, you might explain in your own words why those physical characteristics are important or how they help your god or goddess accomplish certain tasks. You can take your best guess as to why it would be important for your god/goddess…just don’t use “I” anywhere in this paper, or I will be very sad and probably cry when I grade it. Don’t do that to me.

5. If you can’t find certain information that I have required for you to include in the paper, come talk to me about it. We can figure out something else for you to include for that particular section.

6. Your paper will be great if you work hard and put in the effort.
