Circulating Books, Electronic Books, and U.S. Government Documents

To find circulating books, as well as electronic books and U.S. government online documents, on wide-ranging topics using your key words or ideas:

✓ Go to the Kean University Library’s home page located at .

✓ Click Books, E-books, Videos, & More to access the Kean Catalog.

✓ Type your key words in the search box underneath Find This:

✓ Limit your search results to particular types of records (such as, Main Collection books, Reference Collection books, or U.S. Government Online Document) by selecting an option from the Limit Your Search menu.

✓ Click Search.

✓ Evaluate your search results.

✓ Make note of the Library Location designation for any titles of interest. A designation of Main Collection means that the book is a circulating title, while Reference Collection means that the book does not circulate. A designation of U.S. Government Online Document or Electronic Resource means that the item is available online; you may access the material online by clicking the title, then clicking the hyperlink next to the words Linked Resource.

✓ Make note of the call number and status for any Main Collection titles of interest. When a Main Collection book’s Status is Available, this means that the book is not checked out. Circulating titles are located in the Main Collection on the second and third floors of the Kean University Library.

To start using the Library’s electronic databases to search for articles on certain topics using your key words, go to the Library’s home page (). Click Articles & More to access the Databases. The databases are organized in two different lists. In one list the databases are listed alphabetically, and in the other list the databases are listed by subject or format. Brief directions are provided on the next pages to help you navigate these electronic databases. Note: When you are off-campus, you will need to log in with your Kean Google username and password after you click on a database name.

ABI/INFORM Collection To search ABI/INFORM Collection for articles, including newspaper

articles from the Wall Street Journal:

✓ Click the letter A on the alphabetical menu.

✓ Click ABI/INFORM Collection (ProQuest).

✓ Type your key terms in the search box.

✓ Use the “and” operator to combine terms and retrieve items that contain all of the terms. Use the “or” operator to retrieve one or more of the grouped terms (not necessarily all of the grouped terms). Use the asterisk (*) as a truncation symbol after a word root to retrieve articles with the word root and all of its possible word endings. For instance, type:

If the full-text article is available online for a specific item, you will see one or more of the following links immediately below the item: HTML Full Text, PDF Full Text, or Linked Full Text. Click one of these links to view the full-text article.

✓ E-mail the article you are currently viewing by clicking E-mail (envelope icon) located on the right-hand side of your screen.

✓ If full-text link options are not present, click the TOUR button to check the availability of full-text for the article in other Kean University Library databases.

US Newsstream To search US Newsstream for articles from a comprehensive collection of

international, national, and regional newspapers, such as New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Washington Post, Times of London, The Guardian, El Norte, Jerusalem Post, and South China Morning Post:

JSTOR To search JSTOR for scholarly articles:

✓ Go to the Library’s home page at .

✓ Click Articles & More to access the Databases page.

✓ Click the letter J on the alphabetical menu.

✓ Click JSTOR.

✓ Click Advanced Search to access the Advanced Search form.

✓ Type your key terms in the first and second search boxes.

✓ Use the “AND” operator to combine terms and retrieve items that contain all of the terms. Use the “OR” operator to retrieve one or more of the grouped terms (not necessarily all of the grouped terms). Use double quotes (“”) to retrieve items that contain specific phrases. Use the asterisk (*) as a truncation symbol after a word root to retrieve articles with the word root and all of its possible word endings. For example, type:

✓ Click Search.

✓ Result: the first 25 retrieved citations will be displayed. Click PDF to view full-text article.

✓ E-mail selected article citations by clicking Email Citations at the top of the results list. From the Citation Format drop-down menu select printer-friendly, fill out the rest of the email form, and click Send.

SAGE Journals Online To search SAGE Journals Online for scholarly articles using your key terms:

✓ Go to the Library’s home page at .

✓ Click Articles & More to access the Databases page.

✓ Click the letter S on the alphabetical menu.

✓ Click SAGE Journals Online.

✓ Type your key terms in the box next to Search All Journals.

✓ Use double quotes (“”) to retrieve items that contain specific phrases. Use the “and” operator to combine terms and retrieve items that contain all of the terms. Use the “or” operator to retrieve one or more of the grouped terms (not necessarily all of the grouped terms). Use the asterisk (*) as a truncation symbol after a word root to retrieve articles with the word root and all of its possible word endings. For example, type:

✓ E-mail the full-text article you are viewing by clicking E-mail this article to a colleague on the right-hand side of your screen.

✓ If you do not see the Article Available message, search for the journal in the Periodicals List to check the availability of full-text for the article in other Kean University Library databases.

Oxford Handbooks Online To search Oxford Handbooks Online for full-text essays from electronic (e-book) handbooks focusing on business and management topics:

✓ Go to the Library’s home page at .

✓ Click Articles & More to access the Databases page.

✓ Click the letter O on the alphabetical menu.

✓ Click Oxford Handbooks Online -- Business and Management (Oxford University Press).

✓ Click a title listed under the heading The Oxford Handbooks of… in order to access the full-text content of that handbook.

✓ Alternatively, type your key terms in the search box. For example, type:

LexisNexis Academic To search LexisNexis Academic for news using your key terms:

✓ Click the box labeled Get Company Info.

✓ Type a company name in the box labeled By Name. For instance, type: l'occitane

✓ Result: The names of the Top 3 companies will be displayed. Click a name to access the full-text document, or click View All Companies to see all results.

✓ E-mail the document you are currently viewing by clicking Email located in the top right-hand corner of your screen.

Business Market To search Business Market Research Collection for corporate data, in-depth industry

Research Collection analyses, summary financials, and information on company locations, top competitors, and officers. Also features analytical articles covering economic and political topics, and worldwide market data reports:

MarketLine Advantage To search MarketLine Advantage for company profiles (including SWOT analyses),

(formerly Datamonitor360) case studies, country information, and market information on industries:

✓ Click MarketLine Advantage.

✓ Click Industries or Companies below the heading Browse by to begin exploring industry categories or lists of companies.

Mergent Online To search Mergent Online for country profiles as well as global company and industry information, including public company descriptions, financial data, annual reports, equity reports, and industry reports:

✓ Click Mergent Online.

IBISWorld To search IBISWorld for industry market research and industry risk ratings for more than 700 U.S. industries:

✓ Click the letter I on the alphabetical menu.

✓ Click IBISWorld.

✓ Type a key word, company name, or NAICS code in the Start your search here search box.

✓ Click the red magnifying glass button to run the search.

✓ Results: Links to Industry Reports (US) and Industry iExpert Summaries (US) will be displayed.

✓ Click a link to view the full-text Industry Report or Industry iExpert Summary.

✓ Click the red PDF button toward the top left corner of the report or summary to view the

✓ From the box on the left labeled Available Databases, move the cursor over the desired business database then click Search when it appears in the blue box. For instance, you may select one of the following databases: U.S. Businesses/Employers USA, Canadian Businesses, U.S. New Businesses, or U.S. HealthCare.

✓ Type a company name in the Quick Search form, then click View Results.

CountryWatch To search CountryWatch for information, including historical, cultural, and political information, about the countries of the world:

✓ Go to the Library’s home page at .
