See General Conditions. Page 1A.1 GENERAL INFORMATION AND SCOPE OF WORK: The stairs to be rehabilitated are located at both ends of the gymnasium on the lowest floor of the building. Each stair has twelve risers and twelve treads. The stairs are approximately six feet six inches in width the sides of the stairway are brick walls. At the bottom of both stairs is a landing approximately six feet five inches in length. The stair treads are surfaced with a diamond patterned metal plate that contains a metal nosing. The depth of the treads including the nosing is twelve and one-half inches. The risers are seven inches. The quotation shall include all work necessary for the removal of the metal tread covers, repair of concrete, modification of risers to provide a straight surface between treads and installation of rubber treads and riser covers. Landings at the bottom are to have existing covers removed concrete surface repaired and tiles that match the stair treads installed. Existing hand rails are to be removed and new handrails for both adults and children installed on both sides. A.1.1 Tread Covers: Treads maybe rubber or vinyl but with not less than one-quarter inch thick at nosing. They must have a raised ribs or patterns for traction; must be black in color and conform to Federal Specifications: RR-T-650E Type B; ZZ-T-001237(GSA-FSS) and ASTM-E-84 Flame Spread Rate 75 or less.A.1.2 Risers: Risers shall be matching, supplied by the same manufacturer to be used with the specific treads provided.A.1.3 Adhesive: Adhesive must be provided by the same firm providing the treads and risers and recommended for that specific use.A.1.4 Floor Tiles: Floor Tiles for the landings must match the treads and risers.A.1.5 Preparation: Removal of existing metal treads must be completed, concrete patched, repaired and smooth.A.1.6 Handrails: Two handrails are required on each wall: one 1-1/2 inch diameter rail 34 inches above tread nosing for adults and one 1-? inch diameter handrail 22 inches above tread nosing for children. Railings must extend 12 inches beyond top and 23 inches bottom of stairs. Clearance between rails and walls shall be 1-1/2 inches. Handrails maybe either aluminum or carbon steel but must have a black finish. Wall mounts for the handrail must be the same material as the handrails.A.2.0 Work Area: The two stairs must be done consecutively not concurrently. Temporary shields - plastic or other suitable materials must be placed at each end of the stairs to isolate the work area. The work can be done after 5:30 pm on weekdays and on weekends.
