“FREE!” TRAIN THE TRAINER SESSIONS

Who might be interested or appropriate to take part?

▪ Elders of (local) Indigenous communities

▪ Youth workers

▪ Youth group leaders

▪ Church members

▪ Interested parents

▪ Parents & Friends Association members

▪ School Chaplains

▪ School Youth Health Nurses

▪ Guidance counsellors

▪ Teachers or other school staff

▪ Community workers, health workers and local council staff

▪ Police officers and other Emergency Service workers

▪ Sporting groups and coaches

The participants should be at least 18 years old, and be confident speaking to parents of teenagers. (We suggest people in their mid-20s and older will be fine.) We have had younger people attend the training, with a view to presenting to their peers.

Outline of the program and aspects it will cover: Adolescence: What it means, and what to expect, building resilience, Teenage development, Modeling behavior, Teenage parties: celebrations and their role in society, Alcohol and drugs: facts, myths and safety, Alcohol in Australian culture, Alcohol and young bodies, Drinking guidelines, Influencing the supply of alcohol, Hosting and attending parties: ensuring safety, security and fun, Legal issues, What should I expect? What should I do if something goes wrong?
