The student will be taught to identify safety and hazardous warning information for products used in the collision repair industry and the Right-To-Know Act. Students will also study the collision repair industry and the preparation of the vehicle for entering the repair facility. INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERY PLAN:Classroom presentation will follow the lecture discussion format. Student participation in the form of questions and discussion of related experiences will be solicited. Visual materials and other methods will be used to keep the class interesting and meaningful.Lab and shop presentations will take the form of students working individually, in pairs, and groups on assigned processes and projects. COURSE COMPENTENCIES:ACR History and Industry OverviewUnderstand and discuss the Auto Collision Repair Industry and Trends.Identify different career opportunities within the industry and requirements (skills and education) for each.Safety PrecautionsIdentify and take necessary precautions with hazardous operations and materials according to federal, state, and local regulations.Identify safety and personal health hazards according to OSHA guidelines and the "Right to Know Law".Inspect spray environment to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and for safety and cleanliness hazards.Select and use the NIOSH approved personal sanding respirator. Inspect condition and ensure fit and operation. Perform proper maintenance in accordance with OSHA Regulation 1910.134 and applicable state and local regulation.Select and use the NIOSH approved (Fresh Air Make-up System) personal painting/refinishing respirator system. Included in this obligation is the necessity of meeting timelines for completion of activities, assignments and tests. Students who need additional help should notify the instructor who will provide additional assistance and/or refer the student to the Academic Center for assistance. It is the student’s responsibility to request make-up work from the instructor. Shop work is difficult to make up so the instructor may assign written lessons.
