COVID-19 (PPE) DESIGN CHALLENGEDesign Brief:During this time of the pandemic crisis, there is a shortage of PPE (personal protective equipment) for medical professionals. Students will have the opportunity to use complex computer graphic skills, tools and processes to develop a 3D representation of a personal protective device. Procedure:Students will research the shortages and demand of different types of PPE supplies.Students will need to choose what type of PPE to design.Students will need to determine sizes of the human anatomy for the PPE (i.e. hands, facial features, head diameter, etc.).Students may use any type of 3D modeling software that is available to them (i.e. Autodesk Inventor, Tinker Cad, Blender, Google Sketch Up, etc.).Designs must be created to a 1:1 scale.3D model must be create using “metric” units.Design needs to be functional, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing (i.e. if it’s a device to protect the eyes, then it needs to be able to protect the eyes.).Final 3D model must be submitted as an “.stl” file for universal 3D printing. Evaluation:Students will email the final design to the instructor as a “.stl” file.Instructor will evaluate 3D model according to criteria.Instructor will 3D print students design and test for functionality. If the student’s design meets the needs of PPE device for medical personnel, the teacher will contact the student and see which facility or medical they would like to donate to. The student will also be credited for the design work.Have fun with your 3D design process, be creative and think outside the box!!! ................
