Number of Trips to Set Code:   2

OBD II Monitor Type:  CCM Details

Indicators:  MIL Details

• CCM Details

• MIL Details

Trouble Code Conditions:

DTC P0502, P0503, P0740, P0753, P0758, P0785 and P1860 not set, engine started, vehicle driven to a speed of 30-82 at an engine speed of 1000-3000 rpm, Fuel Shutoff inactive, TP angle from 8-35%, commanded gear not in 1st gear and the gear range is D4, TFT sensor from 68ºF-266ºF, engine torque from 40-450 lb ft, The speed ratio is 0.65-0.98 (speed ratio is engine speed divided by transmission output speed), shift solenoid performance diagnostic counters are zero, TCC commanded "on" with maximum apply for 5 seconds, and the PCM detected the TCC slip speed was from 130-800 rpm, fault detected 3 times with TCC commanded "off" in between cycles. The PCM monitors the difference between engine and transmission output speed. In D3 drive range with the TCC engaged, the engine speed should closely match the transmission output speed. In D4 drive range with the TCC engaged, the TCC slip speed should be from -20 to +40 rpm. If the PCM detects excessive TCC slip when the TCC should be engaged, it will set DTC P1870.

Possible Causes:

• 1-2 shift solenoid valve has sediment, damage or leaking seals

• 2-3 shift solenoid valve has sediment, damage or leaking seals

• 3-2 shift solenoid valve has sediment, damage or leaking seals

• Valve body regulator apply valve stuck or regulator is scored

• Torque converter front stator shaft bushing is worn, the stator roller clutch is not holding

• Converter clutch valve is stuck or it is installed backwards

• Converter clutch valve retaining ring is not positioned properly

• Converter clutch outer valve spring is cocked

• Pump to case gasket is not positioned properly

• Orifice cup plugs are restricted or damaged

• Over-tightened, or unevenly tightened pump body to cover bolts

Test Description

The numbers below refer to the Step numbers on the diagnostic table.

2. This step compares the indicated range signal to the actual selected range. A faulty TFP Valve Position Switch could set a DTC P1870.

3. This step tests for slippage while the torque converter is in a commanded lock-up state.
