Professional Experience:

Translation and interpretation:

• Have set up own company named “Shirgurkar & Associates” in October 2006, offering Japanese language services. Mainly through the company I undertake translation and interpretation contracts. Till date have successfully handled large volumes of technical translations for a variety of industries like IT and software, electronics, mechanical engineering, automobile etc. and also non-technical translations like legal agreements and excerpts from school text books.

• Personally take up interpretation jobs regularly. Have worked for Bajaj Auto Ltd., Bharat Forge, Exide Industries, Yamaha Motors, India Ltd., Yutaka Autoparts Pune Ltd. as well as software companies, mainly for Neilsoft,Pune and Eximsoft, Bangalore. My other clients include Chowgule Industry(Salt), Goa, whirlpool, Pune and PMT Machine Tools, Pimpri.

• Worked as Localization Specialist in Parametric Technology Corporation, Pune, for a period of two years.

• Participated in a workshop on Scientific Translation conducted by ISTA (Indian Scientific Translation Association), Delhi.

Language teaching and course design:

• Imparted corporate training to engineers from KPIT Cummins, Pune and Bangalore, Toyota Kirloskar, Patni Computers through crash courses on basic and business Japanese language. Designed and conducted Survival Japanese course for software professionals from KPIT, Pune and Bangalore.

• For 8 years from June 1999 worked as honorary lecturer of Japanese language (third year) in the Department of Foreign Languages, University of Pune. Was responsible for designing and conducting intermediate level class on spoken Japanese. Active participation in designing and conducting the newly commenced Special Diploma course in Japanese (4th year) for the University of Pune.

• Worked as Co-coordinator, Japanese language in the department of foreign languages, University of Pune(June2002~ August 2003).

• Worked as a Consultant for SEED Infotech. Primary responsibilities included design & standardization of course structure, teachers training and periodic reviews of the course proceedings.

• Worked as Chairman, Annual Examination Committee of Advanced Diploma, Japanese (University of Pune) for four years.

• Worked as Vice-President of JALTAP ( Japanese Language Teachers’ Association, Pune) for a tenure of 3 years (June 1999 ~ May 2002).

• Gave career guidance in programs conducted by Express Youth Forum, Pune as well as Space Computers, Pune.

Personal Achievements :

• Won Distinguished performance award in MA program by Japan Foundation for research work and overall performance throughout the year (16 ‘A’s and 2‘B’s, all adding up to 36 credits).

• Secured an “A” Grade during higher studies at the Obirin University, Japan.

• Japanese language University diploma – First rank in the second year.

• Secured II rank in the Merit List, in the H.S.C. examination conducted by the Maharashtra Board.

• Studied with the main focus on Japanese language & linguistics, teaching methodology and education. To have an overall image of Japan, studied Japanese society and their systems.

• As a part of research, developed a teaching methodology and materials for conversation class, based on functional syllabus for intermediate level students.

July 1998 up to January 1999

• Studied on scholarship offered by Obirin University, Tokyo and Ashta no Kai, Pune.Japanese cultural study as well as Japanese language study was the focus. Was selected as foreigner students’ representative in the 25th International students’ seminar in Hachioji. Wrote a report on Indo- Japanese relations.
