3. Catalog Description:

An overview of General Motors automotive service practices and procedures, shop equipment, use of shop manuals, basic diagnosis and minor repairs. Operating systems on current General Motors cars and truck are introduced. A course fee is required.

5. Learning Outcomes

knowledge and skills embodied in the program’s educational objectives.]

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

• Demonstrate the safe use and operation of all shop equipment. (lifts, jacks, jack stands, etc.)

• Demonstrate knowledge for the location and use of shop fire extinguishers and first aid supplies

• Perform Identification of shop chemicals and usage of Material Safety Data Sheets

• Identify and use automotive measuring testing tools and hand tool operation

• Employ the correct procedures and materials in identifying and performing the prescribed maintenance services according to time and mileage

• Identify major vehicle components

• Demonstrate usage of Oxy-Acetylene Torch for welding and heating

• Demonstrate the use of shop manuals, tech bulletins, and electronic service information

• Identify and demonstrate proper usage of fasteners and sealants

• Complete fundamentals section of GM online Service Technician Training required courses

• Test and service automotive cooling systems

• Identify Vehicle Vin number locations and interpret number sequencing
