Manufacturer shall provide and Contractor shall utilize, as part of the system, a software package that allows the design, document, and manage the temperature cascade in a single pipe distribution system. This software shall produce a flow diagram that sizes all equipment and pipe based on inputted loads and temperature differentials. The software shall document all of these design calculations in a flow schematic. The flow schematic shall show all loads, entering and leaving temperatures, and flow for each terminal unit. In the case of dual temperature systems and heat pumps, it shall document data for both heating and cooling modes.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

Manufacturer Qualifications: Company specializing in manufacturing the type of products specified in this section, with minimum five years of documented experience.

Installer Qualifications: Minimum 2 years experience installing similar systems.

Product Qualifications:

Where items of equipment are required to be provided with compliance to U.L., A.G.A., or other testing and approving agencies, the Contractor may submit a written certification from any nationally recognized testing agency, adequately equipped and competent to perform such services, that the item of equipment has been tested and conforms to the same method of test as the listed agency would conduct.

DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.

Accept valves on site in shipping containers with labeling in place. Inspect for damage.

Provide temporary end caps and closures on piping and fittings. Maintain in place until installation.

Protect piping components from entry of foreign materials by temporary covers, completing sections of the work, and isolating parts of completed system.

Store and dispose of solvent-based materials, and materials used with solvent-based materials, in accordance with requirements of local authorities having jurisdiction.

PROJECT CONDITIONS

Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits.

WARRANTY

The manufacturer shall guarantee system operation for one full heating season and one full cooling season, to the extent that the HVAC system shall deliver the heating and cooling capacities as specified. The value of the guarantee shall be equal to the value of retrofitting the system to a two-pipe system.

Component: LoadMatch Circulators:

The circulator shall be water lubricated, direct drive, requiring no seals, couplers or bearing assembly. Ceramic shaft and carbon bearing construction shall be capable of running without fluid for 10 days without damage to shaft or bearings.

The circulator shall be repairable in-line without removal of the circulator from the piping using a stainless steel replaceable cartridge. Cartridge shall be provided with a 3 year warranty.

The circulator shall incorporate a removable integral spring loaded flow check to eliminate fluid circulation when the pump is off.

The circulator shall incorporate an integral condensate baffle to eliminate condensation on the motor housing when supplying chilled water down to 40 degrees F (4 degrees C). Alternative manufacturing processes that delay the effect of condensation versus preventing it shall not be allowed. Specifically, extra coating on the windings is not an acceptable alternative.

Circulator shall be rated for 200 psi (1379 kPa) working pressure at 220 degree F (104 degree C) fluid temperature.

An integral variable speed drive (VSD) shall accept a 0-10 Vdc or 4-20 mA modulating control signal to control the speed of the circulator motor. VSD shall incorporate an exercise sequence to run the pump for 20 seconds if there has been no run signal for 72 hours.

Circulator shall bear UL label.

The Mixing Block shall consist of an injection circulator and a zone circulator with an interconnecting decoupler pipe with connections to the primary and zone circuits. The interconnecting decoupler piping shall be stainless steel with flanged connections for field servicing and removal of the circulators. Circulators and interconnecting decoupler shall be factory assembled as one unit.

The injection circulator shall be operated variable speed to control the supply water temperature to the terminal unit for the zone.

The zone circulator shall be operated either constant or variable speed to maintain the space temperature in the zone.

AIR ELIMINATION

Air and dirt removal device shall be constructed of steel. It shall be designed, fabricated and stamped per ASME Section VIII Division 1 with a maximum working pressure of 125 psi (862 kPa) at 270 degree F (132 degree C). Manufacturer shall be holder of ASME U stamp. Manufacturer shall have optional 250 psi (1724 kPa) and 150 psi (1034 kPa) ASME units available.

Product: VorTech Air Separators 4900 Series Air Separators as manufactured by Taco, Inc.

Type: AC (size and capacity as called for on plans).

Construction:

Units up to three inches (76 mm) in size shall be provided with threaded connections as standard. Units three inches (76 mm) and larger shall be provided with flanged system connections as standard. Inlet and outlet connections shall be in-line with piping system. Both inlet and outlet shall be in the same horizontal and vertical planes.

Each air and dirt removal device shall be equipped with a brass conical shaped air venting chamber designed to minimize system fluid from fouling the venting assembly. The air vent shall be able to be closed to allow flushing and purging of dirt via side port without dirt passing through vent on initial system fill.

A brass flushing cock shall be located on the side of each separator to facilitate system fast-fill and removal of the floating impurities from the air system interface within the separator.

A blow down valve shall be provided by the unit manufacturer on the bottom of each unit to allow blow down and cleaning. On units 2-1/2 inches (64 mm) and smaller the valve and all of its fittings shall be 1 inch (25 mm). On units three 3 inches (76 mm) and larger the valve and all openings shall be 2 inches (51 mm).

The air and dirt removal device shall remove air down to 18 microns (0.018 mm) and shall remove dirt/debris down to 35 microns (0.035 mm). The unit shall be 100% efficient at removing dirt down to 90 microns (0.090 mm) in 100 passes or less.

The unit manufacturer shall provide the Owner and design engineer third party independent test data certifying that their unit performs to the above standards. Suppliers not providing these independent performance test results will not be acceptable.

The air and dirt separator shall employ the use of high surface area pall rings to achieve optimal separation of air and dirt with minimal pressure drop. The pall rings shall be made of stainless steel. Stainless steel will be the only acceptable material used for suppressing turbulence and increasing surface area for high efficiency air and dirt removal. Inferior materials of construction such as copper for the straining medium will not be acceptable.

Chilled water unit: The minimum allowable surface area of the straining medium shall be ____ sq ft for the ______model.

Manufacturer shall have at least 15 years of experience with microbubble coalescing and dirt removal technology.

The unit shall be manufactured with a removable cover to facilitate removal, inspection, and cleaning of the pall ring basket. The entire pall ring basket shall be constructed of stainless steel. For safety and ease of service the unit shall be accessed from the top and the pall ring basket shall be accessed as one complete assembly housed in a stainless steel cage.

The unit shall be provided with a removable stainless steel strainer with 3/16 inch (4.8 mm) perforations and a free area of not less than five times the cross sectional area of the connecting pipe. The unit shall come with an inline connection that will allow for strainer removal. This additional fitting shall allow the installing contractor the option of installing the unit with inlet and outlet on the same side of the unit or on opposite sides.

The valve shall be straight or angle pattern and shall be field convertible between the two. The valve shall be ductile iron and rated for 250 psi (1724 kPa) working pressure for all jobs. The valve flanges shall be matched to suit the working pressure of the piping components on the job; with either ANSI class 125 flanges or ANSI class 250 Flanges. The valve shall include the following components; non-slam check valve with spring-loaded bronze disc and seat, stainless steel stem, and calibrated adjustment permitting flow regulation. Valve shall be serviceable under full system pressure.

Pump Inlet Guide Fitting:

Product: Taco model SD inlet suction elbow.

All pump suctions to be fitted with a multifunction inlet suction diffuser equal to that as manufactured by Taco, Inc. The suction diffuser body and cover plate shall be ductile iron and be rated for 250 psi (1724 kPa) for all jobs. The guide flanges shall be matched to suit the working pressure of the piping components on the job; with either ANSI class 125 flanges or ANSI class 250 flanges. The suction guide shall include the following components; full length stainless steel straightening vanes, permanent stainless steel strainer, disposable 16 mesh bronze start up strainer, blow down ports, and metering ports. For pumps where an inlet guide fitting is not installed, there shall be five pipe diameters of straight undisturbed flow going into the pump suction.

Pumps shall be fitted with one 4-1/2 inches (114 mm) dial pressure gauge piped to the inlet and outlet pump flanges. The gauge shall be isolated from each flange via 1/4 inch (6 mm) ball valve. This gauge is to be used to take the differential across the pump unless otherwise indicated.

VERTICAL TURBINE PUMP, WATER LUBRICATED

Furnish and install vertical turbine pump(s) with driver and accessories of the size and type shown on the plans.

Product: Taco VT Series as manufactured by Taco Inc.

The pump shall be manufactured for lubrication of the line shaft bearings by the water being pumped. The pumping unit shall be designed and manufactured in accordance with the latest Hydraulic Institute standards and AWWA specifications for line shaft turbine pumps.

Pump Construction:

Bowl Assembly: The intermediate bowls, discharge cases and suction bowls shall be flanged type constructed from close grain cast iron, and shall conform to ASTM A48, class 30. They shall be free of defects and accurately machined and fitted to close tolerances. The intermediate bowls shall have epoxy enamel coated waterways for maximum efficiency. Threaded discharge cases shall be threaded with an 8 TPI BUTT Standard for water lubricated column assembly. Assembly bolting shall be stainless steel.

Impellers: The impellers shall be produced by investment cast method and shall be 201 or 304 stainless steel, ASTM A296 and shall be of the enclosed type. They shall be free from defects, machined, and balanced for optimum efficiency and performance. They shall be securely fastened to the bowl shaft with stainless steel taper lock collets; C1045 steel will not be accepted. The impellers shall be adjustable by means of a top shaft adjusting nut or adjustable solid shaft coupling.

Bowl Shaft: The bowl shaft shall be constructed from Pump Shaft Quality (PSQ) 416 stainless steel, ASTM A582 pump shaft material. It shall be precision machined and straightened within .002 - .004 inch (0.05 to 0.10 mm) tolerance.

Discharge Head Assembly - Water Lubricated:

Discharge Head: The discharge head, sized for pump capacity, shall be constructed of high grade ductile iron, ASTM A536, class 65 or fabricated steel and shall be of the high profile type with an integral motor base which allows the head shaft to be coupled to the top shaft above the stuffing box. A separate motor stand is not acceptable. The discharge head shall have an ANSI 150 psi (1034 kPa) discharge flange supplied with dual 1/4 inch (6 mm) NPT ports at the top. The head shall be threaded with an 8 TPI BUTT Standard to accept the column pipe.

Stuffing Box: The stuffing box shall be ductile iron, ASTM A536 class 65, rated at 250 psi (1724 kPa) and contain a minimum of five rings of John Crane 1345 packing or an optional balanced mechanical seal. It shall have an available fitting for pressure relief. The packing follower gland shall be 201 stainless steel and secured in place by stainless steel studs and nuts. Cast iron or bronze glands are not acceptable. The packing box bearing shall be bronze B-505-836. A rubber water slinger shall be provided to operate on the top shaft, above the packing gland.

Column Assembly - Water Lubricated

Column pipe: Column pipe shall be ASTM A53 grade B steel pipe. The column ends shall be machined with 8 TPI BUTT Standard threads and faced parallel to the threads to ensure proper alignment. The pipe shall be connected with threaded sleeve type ductile iron couplings that will accept 3/4 inch (19 mm) stainless steel bearing retainers. Intermediate column lengths and line shaft bearing spacing shall not exceed 7 feet (2134 mm) with pump speeds up to 1800 rpm. Pumps operating at speeds over 1800 rpm shall have column and bearing spacing no greater than 5 feet (1524 mm).

Bearing Retainers: Investment cast 201 stainless steel bearing retainers, also known as spiders, shall be furnished for shaft stabilization at each column pipe coupling. A rubber fluted line shaft bearing, retained with a shoulder at each end, shall be installed in each bearing retainer. Bronze or cast iron bearing retainers are not acceptable.

Line Shaft: Line shaft shall be 416 stainless steel, ASTM A582 and sized according to the horsepower requirements of the specified pump. To ensure proper alignment, the shafts shall be straightened to within .004 inch (0.10 mm) tolerance and the butting faces shall be machined perpendicular to the axis of the shaft. These shafts shall be coupled with 416 stainless steel line shaft couplings.

Suction Strainer: A stainless steel basket strainer of a suitable size shall be provided and attached to the pump suction with stainless steel fasteners. Galvanized strainers are not acceptable.

Electric Motor: The motor shall be a GE High Efficiency Value Line heavy duty induction type, designed to NEMA MG-1 standards, ______ RPM vertical hollow shaft motor with space heaters and a non-reverse ratchet to prevent reverse rotation. The motor shall have an angular contact thrust bearing to meet the designed pump's hydraulic thrust load plus the weight of the rotating parts under operating conditions. The motor shall be high efficient with a WP-1 enclosure, 230/460 volt, 3 phase, 60HZ, and a 1.15 service factor. The motor shall be IGBT drive compatible with a 4:1 variable torque speed range (mini. 20HZ).

EXECUTION

EXAMINATION

Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

PREPARATION

Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

INSTALLATION

Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

Hydronic System:

Where large air quantities can accumulate, provide enlarged air collection standpipes.

Provide manual air vents at system high points and as indicated.

For automatic air vents in ceiling spaces or other concealed locations, provide vent tubing to nearest drain.

Air separator and expansion tank to be installed on the suction side of the system pumps. Expansion tank to be tied into system piping in close proximity to air separator and system fill line.

Provide valved drain and hose connection on strainer blow down connection.

Provide pump suction fitting on suction side of base mounted centrifugal pumps where indicated. Remove temporary strainers after cleaning systems.

Provide combination pump discharge valve on discharge side of base mounted centrifugal pumps where indicated.

Support pump fittings with floor mounted pipe and flange supports.

Provide radiator valves on water inlet to terminal heating units such as radiation, unit heaters, and fan coil units.

Provide radiator balancing valves on water outlet from terminal heating units such as radiation, unit heaters, and fan coil units.

Provide relief valves on pressure tanks, low pressure side of reducing valves, heat exchangers, and expansion tanks.

Select system relief valve capacity so that it is greater than make-up pressure reducing valve capacity. Select equipment relief valve capacity to exceed rating of connected equipment.

Pipe relief valve outlet to nearest floor drain.

Where one line vents several relief valves, make cross sectional area equal to sum of individual vent areas.

Clean and flush glycol system before adding glycol solution.

Feed glycol solution to system through make-up line with pressure regulator, venting system high points. Set to fill to pressure scheduled or as required.

Perform tests determining strength of glycol and water solution and submit written test results.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Loadmatch system. Delete if not required.

Hydronic Cascade System:

Pumps, other than circulators, shall be fitted with a multi-purpose or balancing valve or other means of providing system balance.

Pumps shall be fitted with instrument test port on inlet and outlet ports unless otherwise indicated.

Pump groups (over one pump in parallel) on a single system shall utilize a check valve on the outlet to prevent reverse flow.

Circulator: Circulator shall be mounted with motor shaft in the horizontal position.

Pump Installation:

Contractor shall install pump in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Pipe connections to pumps shall be made in such a manner so as not to exert any stress on pump housings. If necessary to meet this requirement, provide additional pipe supports and flex connectors.

Do not put pipe hanger under motor in a manner that stresses the motor and causes misalignment issues.

Base mounted pumps shall be aligned upon receipt at jobsite, during installation, and after system fill. Contractor shall level and grout each pump according to the manufacturer recommendations to insure proper alignment prior to operation.

Pumps shall NOT be run dry to check rotation.

Change start-up strainers to permanent strainer upon acceptance of the job. Provide a blow down valve on each strainer and terminate with hose thread or extend blow down line to nearest floor drain.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** LOFlo system. Delete if not required.

START UP

The primary loop shall be purged of air with the LOFlo secondary terminal loop shutoff valves closed.

The primary loop shall be cleaned of debris by starting the primary pumps and continuously circulating water in the primary loop. The system shall be cleaned by frequently cleaning the start-up screens in the primary pump suction diffusers until the screens do not collect any more debris.

Once the suction diffuser start-up screens are clean then the shutoff valves to the LOFlo secondary terminal loops can be opened.

The secondary terminal loops shall be purged of air by opening the manual air vents on the terminal units.

When the secondary terminal unit piping is purged of air then the LOFlo Mixing Block circulators can be started.

PROTECTION

Protect installed products until completion of project.

Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
