Position: Shelter Advocate – Variable Shifts (Part-Time)
Accountability: Manager of Shelter Services
Hours: Will work an average of approximately 20 hours per week, including variable day, evening and overnight shifts, weekends and holidays.
Summary/Objective
The Shelter Advocate promotes the mission and models the values of Anna Marie’s Alliance by providing direct services to residents.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
• Working toward four-year degree in human service field (Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice), or 2 years equivalent relevant work experience.
• Fully operational vehicle, valid driver’s license, and current car insurance.
Other Requirements
• Demonstrated competency/experience in working with persons who experience chronic and persistent mental illness and/or chemical dependency issues.
Essential Functions
1. Provide advocacy and support on woman’s behalf, including housing, financial assistance and employment.
2. Respond to crisis situations on telephone and within the shelter promptly, and provide resource information and referral.
3. Maintain shelter security at all times. Clearly understands the shelter security system.
4. Welcome new residents and assist in identifying immediate needs during intake process.
5. Meet with residents and set goals, which must include housing.
6. Assist women in identifying their strengths and assist them in exploring alternatives and solutions to barriers by provision of information on local resources and personal skill building.
7. Conscientiously communicate information between shifts through logging and shift change activities.
8. Maintain client confidentiality and follow safety policies.
9. Assist women in clarifying their problems, identifying and exploring alternatives and solutions to those problems.
10. Keep accurate records of statistics and give to Executive Assistant daily.
11. Follows Anna Marie’s Alliance policies, and procedures.
12. Work effectively with persons who have diverse styles, abilities, motivations, and backgrounds
13. Arrive to work promptly and regularly.
14. Assist in household chores.
15. Participate in Check-In Meetings on a quarterly basis, and in other meetings as requested.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.

• Occasionally required to perform light housekeeping duties
Physical Demands
This position requires the ability to sit, stand and walk and occasionally lift up to 30-35 lbs. This position is responsible for doing occasional light housekeeping such as sweeping, vacuuming, mopping dishes, packing, and other household chores. This position will use office equipment, including computer and telephone. Must be able to stay awake and alert during all work hours.
Travel
This position requires occasional travel in the local area. Out of the area and overnight travel is rarely required.
