A Night in Tunisia
The moon is the same moon above you
Aglow with its cool evening light
But shining at night in Tunisia
Never does it shine so bright.
The stars are aglow in the heavens
But only the wise understand
That shining at night in Tunisia
They guide you through the desert sand.
Words fail to tell a tale
Too exotic to be told
Each night's a deeper night
In a world ages old.
The cares of the day seem to vanish
The ending of day brings release
Each wonderful night in Tunisia
Where the nights are filled with peace.
The credits are (Gillespie-Paparelli-Hendricks), so I don't know how much of the words below are Jon Hendricks and how much are 'Paparelli'. My best guess is that these words are by Paparelli, whoever he/she is, and that Hendricks' contribution was the words to the jazz improvisation (the Charlie Parker solo), which appear on the Manhattan Transfer album 'Vocalese' sung by Hendricks himself [indecipherably, for the most part]. Ella's version includes only the main head of the song:
As Time Goes By
(Hupfeld)
This day and age we're living in
Gives cause for apprehension
With speed and new invention
And things like fourth dimension
Yet we get a trifle weary
With Mr. Einstein's theory
So we must get down to earth at times
Relax relieve the tension
And no matter what the progress
Or what may yet be proved
The simple facts of life are such
They cannot be removed
You must remember this
A kiss is still a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by
And when two lovers woo
They still say, "I love you"
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by
Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate
Woman needs man
And man must have his mate
That no one can deny
Well, it's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by
Oh yes, the world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by
Ballad of a thin man (Bob Dylan)
You walk into the room
With your pencil in your hand
You see somebody naked
And you say, "Who is that man?"
You try so hard
But you don't understand
Just what you'll say
When you get home
Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?
You raise up your head
And you ask, "Is this where it is?"
And somebody points to you and says
"It's his"
And you say, "What's mine?"
And somebody else says, "Where what is?"
And you say, "Oh my God
Am I here all alone?"
Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?
You hand in your ticket
And you go watch the geek
Who immediately walks up to you
When he hears you speak
And says, "How does it feel
To be such a freak?"
And you say, "Impossible"
As he hands you a bone
Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?
You have many contacts
Among the lumberjacks
To get you facts
When someone attacks your imagination
But nobody has any respect
Anyway they already expect you
To just give a check
To tax-deductible charity organizations
You've been with the professors
And they've all liked your looks
With great lawyers you have
Discussed lepers and crooks
You've been through all of
F. Scott Fitzgerald's books
You're very well read
It's well known
Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?
Well, the sword swallower, he comes up to you
And then he kneels
He crosses himself
And then he clicks his high heels
And without further notice
He asks you how it feels
And he says, "Here is your throat back
Thanks for the loan"
Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?
Now you see this one-eyed midget
Shouting the word "NOW"
And you say, "For what reason?"
And he says, "How?"
And you say, "What does this mean?"
And he screams back, "You're a cow
Give me some milk
Or else go home"
Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?
Well, you walk into the room
Like a camel and then you frown
You put your eyes in your pocket
And your nose on the ground
There ought to be a law
Against you comin' around
You should be made
To wear earphones
Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is, Do you, Mister Jones?
BELLA CIAO
Chant des partisans antifascistes italiens durant la 2nde GM
Una matina, mi son alzatto,
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao !
Una matina, mi son alzatto,
E ho trovato l’invasor.
Oh partigiano, porta mi via,
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao !
Oh partigiano, porta mi via,
Che mi sento di morir.
E se io muoio da partigiano,
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao !
E se io muoio da partigiano
Tu mi devi sepellir.
E sepellire lassu in montagna,
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao !
E sepellire lassu in montagna
Sotto l’ombra di un bel fior.
E le genti que passerano,
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao !
E le genti que passerano
Mi dirano : Que bel fior !
E questo è il fiore del partigiano,
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao !
E questo è il fiore del partigiano
Morto per la liberta,
E questo è il fiore del partigiano
Morto per la liberta ! (bis)
Black Coffee
I'm feelin' mightly lonesome,
Haven't slept a wink,
I walk the floor and watch the door
and in between I drink.....
Black coffee,
Love's a hand me down brew
I'll never know a Sunday
in this week day room.
I'm talking to the shadows
1 o'clock to four,
and lord how slow the moments go
when all I do is pour
Black coffee
Since the blues caught my eye.
I'm hanging out on Monday,
My Sunday dreams to dry.
Now a man is born to go a lovin'
A woman's born to weep and fret
To stay at home and tend her oven
And drown her past regrets
in coffee and cigarettes.
I'm moonin' all the mornin'
mournin' all the night
and in between it's nicotine and not much heart to fight
Black coffee
Feelin' low as the ground,
it's drivin' me crazy, this waitin' for my baby
To maybe come around.
My nerves have gone to pieces
My hair is turnin' grey
All I do is drink black coffee,
Since my man's gone away.
Bridge Over Troubled Water
(Johnny Cash )
When you’re weary, feeling small
When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all
I’m on your side when times get rough
And friends just can’t be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
When you’re down and out
When you’re on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I’ll take your part
When darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Sail on silvergirl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
If you need a friend
I’m sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind

Caravan
Night and stars above that shine so bright
The myst'ry of their fading light
That shines upon our caravan
Sleep upon my shoulder as we creep
Across the sand so I may keep
The mem'ry of our caravan
This is so exciting
You are so inviting
Resting in my arms
As I thrill to the magic charms
Of you beside me here beneath the blue
My dream of love is coming true
Within our desert caravan!

This version did not chart but
It charted twice in 1937: Duke Ellington (# 4) and Barney Bigard (# 20). In 1949 Billy Eckstine took it to # 27
In 1953 Ralph Marterie hit # 6 and The Esquire Boys managed # 27.

CHIM CHIM CHER-EE
Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee!
A sweep is as lucky
As lucky can be
Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-oo!
Good luck will rub off when
I shake 'ands with you
Or blow me a kiss
And that's lucky too
Now as the ladder of life
'As been strung
You may think a sweep's
On the bottommost rung
Though I spends me time
In the ashes and smoke
In this 'ole wide world
There's no 'appier bloke
Up where the smoke is
All billered and curled
'Tween pavement and stars
Is the chimney sweep world
When the's 'ardly no day
Nor 'ardly no night
There's things 'alf in shadow
And 'alf way in light
On the roof tops of London
Coo, what a sight!
I choose me bristles with pride
Yes, I do
A broom for the shaft
And a broom for the flume
Though I'm covered with soot
From me 'ead to me toes
A sweep knows 'e's welcome
Wherever 'e goes
Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee!
When you're with a sweep
You're in glad company
No where is there
A more 'appier crew
Than them wot sings
"Chim chim cher-ee
Chim cher-oo!"
On the chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee
Chim cher-oo!

CHEEK TO CHEEK
Heaven, I’m in heaven
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak
And I seem to find the happiness I seek
When we’re out together dancing cheek to cheek
Heaven, I’m in heaven
And the cares that hung around me through the week
Seem to vanish like a gambler’s lucky streak
When we’re out together dancing (swinging) cheek to cheek
Oh I love to climb a mountain
And reach the highest peak
But it doesn’t thrill (boot) me half as much
As dancing cheek to cheek
Oh I love to go out fishing
In a river or a creek
But I don’t enjoy it half as much
As dancing cheek to cheek
(come on and) dance with me
I want my arm(s) about you
That (those) charm(s) about you
Will carry me through...
(right up) to heaven, I’m in heaven
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak
And I seem to find the happiness I seek
When we’re out together dancing, out together dancing (swinging)
Out together dancing cheek to cheek
Chega de Saudade
(Tom Jobim e Vinícius de Moraes)
Int.: Dm7
Apertado assim, colado assim, calado assim
Abraços e beijinhos e carinhos sem ter fim
Que é pra acabar com esse negócio de viver longe de mim
Não quero mais esse negócio de você viver assim
Vamos deixar desse negócio de você viver sem mim
Cry me a river
Now you say you're lonely
You cried the long night through
Well, you can cry me a river
Cry me a river
I cried a river over you
Now you say you're sorry
For being so untrue
Well, you can cry me a river
Cry me a river
I cried a river over you
You drove me,
Nearly drove me out of my head
While you never shed a tear
Remember?
I remember all that you said
Told me love was to plebeian
Told me you were through with me
Now you say you love me
Well, just to prove you do
Cry me a river
Cry me a river
I cried a river over you
You drove me
Nearly drove me out of my head
While you never shed a tear
Remember?
I remember all that you said
Told me love was to plebeian
Told me you were through with me...
And now you say you love me
Well, just to prove that you do...
Come on! Come on!
Cry me a river...
Cry me a river...
I cried a river over you
I cried a river over you...
Dance me to the end of love (Leonard Cohen)
Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Oh let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on
Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long
We're both of us beneath our love, we're both of us above
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the children who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in
Touch me with your naked hand or touch me with your glove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Day In The Life Of A Fool
A day in the life of a fool.
A sad and a long, lonely day.
I walk the avenue
And hope I'll run into
The welcome sight of you
coming my way.
I stop just across
from your door,
But you're never home
anymore.
So back to my room
and there in the gloom
I cry
tears of goodbye.
'Til you come back to me,
that's the way it will be
ev'ry day in the life of a fool.
Desperado (Johnny Cash)
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
You been out ridin' fences for so long now.
Oh, you're a hard one,
But I know that you've got your reasons.
These things that are pleasin' you,
Can hurt you somehow.
Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy,
She'll beat you if she's able.
Know the queen of hearts is always your best bet.
Now it seems to me, some fine things,
Have been laid upon your table.
But you only want the things that you can't get.
Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no younger:
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home.
And freedom, oh freedom,
Well, that's just some people talkin'
Your prison is walking,
Through this world all alone.
And don't your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky won't snow, the sun won't shine
It's hard to tell the night time from the day
You're loosin' all your highs and lows
Ain't it funny how the feeling,
Goes away?
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, and open the gate
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you,
You better let somebody love you,
You better let somebody love you,
You better let somebody love you,
Before it's too late.

Don't know why (Norah Jones)
I waited 'til I saw the sun
I don't know why I didn't come
I left you by the house of fun
I don't know why I didn't come
I don't know why I didn't come
When I saw the break of day
I wished that I could fly away
Instead of kneeling in the sand
Catching teardrops in my hand
My heart is drenched in wine
But you'll be on my mind
Forever
Out across the endless sea
I would die in ecstasy
But I'll be a bag of bones
Driving down the road alone
My heart is drenched in wine
But you'll be on my mind
Forever
Something has to make you run
I don't know why I didn't come
I feel as empty as a drum
I don't know why I didn't come
I don't know why I didn't come

Dream a little dream of me
(W.Schwant/F.Andre/G.Kahn)
Stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper I love you
Birds singing in the sycamore tree
Dream a little dream of me
Say nighty night and kiss me
just hold me tight and tell me you miss me
While I'm alone and blue as can be
Dream an little dream of me
Stars fading but I linger on dear
still craving your kiss
now I'm longing to linger till dawn dear
just saying this
Sweet dreams till something find you
sweet dream that leave your worries behind you
But in your dreams whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me
But fading but I linger on dear
still craving your kiss
but I'm longing to linger till dawn
just saying this
But in your dreams whatever they be
you gotta make me a promise
promise to me
you'll dream a little dream of me

Tu me manques terriblement...
This memory I'm giving back to you.
These memories, you know I have so many.
Since we dreamed of passing days
No need to change too much.
This memory I'm taking from you.
Memories like that happen to me all the time.
If life mistakenly sets us apart,
I'll get it from my drawer.
I dream with my eyes open.
It feels good.
It does not go any farther.
I don't look back
Since I feel good.
I wish tomorrow would come quick.
A last glass of sherry.
Sherry, my love, when I feel sad.
All days look alike to me now.
I miss you so terribly.

Ay Carmela, ay Carmela.
Y las tropas invasoras
Rum bala rum bala rum ba ba !
Buena paliza les dio,
Ay Carmela, ay Carmela.
El furor de los traidores
Rum bala rum bala rum ba ba !
Lo descarga su aviacion,
Ay Carmela, ay Carmela.
Pero nada pueden bombas
Rum bala rum bala rum ba ba !
Donde sobra corazon,
Ay Carmela, ay Carmela.
Contraataques muy rabiosos
Rum bala rum bala rum ba ba !
Deberemos resistir,
Ay Carmela, ay Carmela.
Pero igual que combatimos

Prometemos combatir,

Essa Moça Tá Diferente (Chico Buarque)
Essa moça tá diferente
Já não me conhece mais
Está pra lá de pra frente
Está me passando pra trás
Essa moça tá decidida
A se supermodernizar
Ela só samba escondida
Que é pra ninguém reparar
Eu cultivo rosas e rimas
Achando que é muito bom
Ela me olha de cima
E vai desinventar o som
Faço-lhe um concerto de flauta
E não lhe desperto emoção
Ela quer ve o astronauta
Descer na televisão
Mas o tempo vai
Mas o tempo vem
Ela me desfaz
Mas o que é que tem
Que ela só me guarda despeito
Que ela só me guarda desdém
Mas o tempo vai
Mas o tempo vem
Ela me desfaz
Mas o que é que tem
Se do lado esquerdo do peito
No fundo, ela ainda me quer bem
Essa moça tá diferente (etc.)
Essa moça é a tal da janela
Que eu me cansei de cantar
E agora está só na dela
Botando só pra quebrar
Mas o tempo vai (etc.)
Everytime we say goodbye (Cole Porter)
Everytime we say goodbye, I die a little,
Everytime we say goodbye, I wonder why a little,
Why the Gods above me, who must be in the know.
Think so little of me, they allow you to go.
When you're near, there's such an air of spring about it,
I can hear a lark somewhere, begin to sing about it,
There's no love song finer, but how strange the change from major to minor,
Everytime we say goodbye.
When you're near, there's such an air of spring about it,
I can hear a lark somewhere, begin to sing about it,
There's no love song finer, but how strange the change from major to minor,
Everytime we say goodbye.
Falling In Love Again – (Marlene Dietrich)
Falling in love again
Never wanted to
What am I to do
I can't help it
Love's always been my game
Play it how I may
I was made that way
I can't help it
Men cluster to me
Like moths around a flame
And if their wings burn
I know I'm not to blame
Falling in love again
Never wanted to
What am I to do
I can't help it
Fever
Never know how much I love you
Never know how much I care,
When you put your arms around me
I get a fever that's so hard to bear
You give me fever, when you kiss me
Fever when you hold me tight.
Fever, in the morning,
Fever all though the night.
Sun lights up the daytime,
Moon lights up the night
And I light up when you call my name
And Oooh I'm gonna treat you right
You give me fever
When you kiss me
Fever when you hold me tight
Fever, in the morning
Fever all through the night.
Everybody's got the fever,
That is something you oughta know
Fever isn't such a new thing
Fever started long ago.
Romeo loved Juliet, Juliet she felt the same
When he put his arms around her,
He said julie baby you're my flame
Now give me fever, when we kiss,
Fever with that flame in use
Fever, I'm on fire, fever yeah I burn forsooth.
Captain Smith & Pocahontas
Had a very mad affair
when her daddy tried to kill him,
She said daddy oh don't you dare
He give me fever,
With his kisses, fever when he holds me tight
Fever I'm his mrs
Daddy won' t you treat him right
Now you've listened to my story,
Here's the point that I have made
Chicks were born to give you fever
Be it farenheit or centigrade
They give you fever
When you kiss them, fever if you live you learn
Fever, till you sizzle
Fly me to the moon
(Bart Howard)
(Artist: Frank Sinatra, Count Basie)
Intro:
Poets often use many words to say a simple thing.
It takes thought and time and rhyme to make a poem sing.
With music and words I've been playing.
For you I have written a song
To be sure that you'll know what I'm saying,
I'll translate as I go along.
Fly me to the moon
Let me sing among those stars
Let me see what spring is like
On Jupiter and Mars
In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby kiss me
Fill my heart with song
Let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore
In other words, please be true
In other words, I love you
Frim Fram Sauce (Diana Krall)
I don't want french fried potatoes,
Red ripe tomatoes, I'm never satisfied,
I want the Frim Fram sauce with the ausanfey,
With shififah on the side
I don't want pork chops and bacon,
That won't awaken my appetite inside,
I want the Frim Fram sauce with the ausanfey,
With shififah on the side
Well, you know, a girl has really got to eat
And a girl, she should eat right
Five will get you ten
I'm gonna feed myself right tonight
I don't want fish cakes and rye bread,
You heard what I said, waiter please serve mine fried
I want the Frim Fram sauce with the ausanfey,
With shififah on the side

JohnnO also posted his thoughts on alt.music.lyrics:
There's a good reason that you couldn't decipher that part...because it's gibberish. In Nat's original version, there's a tip-off sentence that explains the whole thing. Here first is Diana's version, followed by Nat's. Each of them, by the way, uses a different gibberish line in the song, so each has been given the one specific to that performer.
Having said that, I must, in all fairness, give equal time to those who have a dissenting opinion. Quoting from the liner notes to Mosaic's 18-CD set, "Some older musicians contend that, while the title made as much sense as "Shoo Fly Pie," in fact there really was an "Ausen" bakery that served something called "chefafa" on the side."
Personally, I wonder more about what those "older musicians" had been drinking than what they had been eating...especially in light of Nat's final line.
There was a wealth of material to choose from for Nat, this being one of his most-recorded songs, including a V-disc recording and
at least 3 live versions that have been issued on CD alone, ALL of which include the final line that explains the whole thing. I went
with the domestically-released studio version for the transcript.
Anyway, it's a shame to realize that my dream girl has feet of clay... leaving out the joke without which the song makes no sense. But she compensates for it with a neat stride intro which sounds a lot like Fats Waller with a hangover...as opposed to Nat's own intro,
which sounds more like Art Tatum on 'ludes...and I must say it's refreshing to know that this is the second lyric from
Diana/Nat I've been asked to post here...

Shuuba doo-ya doo, sheeya-did'n'doo.
I don't want French-fried potatoes,
Red, ripe tomatoes.
I'm never satisfied.
I want the Frim Fram Sauce
With the oss and fay
With shifafa on the side.
I don't want pork chops and bacon.
That won't awaken
My appetite inside.
I want the Frim Fram Sauce
With the oss and fay
With shifafa on the side.
Now you know,
Girls. we really got to eat,
And you know we should eat right.
Five will get you ten
I'm gonna feed myself right tonight.
I don't want fish-cakes and Rye bread,
You heard what I said.
Waiter, please, I want mine fried.
I want the Frim Fram Sauce
With the oss and fay
With shifafa on the side.
Ooh, with shifafa, uh, on the side.
The Frim Fram Sauce
Nat King Cole/The King Cole Trio
I don't want French-fried potatoes,
Red, ripe tomatoes.
I'm never satisfied.
I want the Frim Fram Sauce
With feeossanfay
With shifafa on the side.
I don't want pork chops and bacon.
That won't awaken
My appetite inside.
I want the Frim Fram Sauce
With feeossanfay
With shifafa on the side.
A fella really got to eat,
An' a fella should eat right.
Five will get you ten
I'm gonna feed myself right tonight.
I don't want fish-cakes and Rye bread.
You heard what I said.
Waiter, please serve mine fried.
I want the Frim Fram Sauce
With feeossanfay
With shifafa on the side.
A fella really got to eat,
An' a fella should eat right.
Five will get you ten
I'm gonna feed myself right tonight.
I don't want fish-cakes and Rye bread.
You heard what I said.

I want the Frim Fram Sauce

Now, if you don't have it,
Just bring me a check for the water.
From this moment on (Cole Porter)
Now that we are close, no more nights morose,
Now that we are one, the beguine has just begun.
Now that we're side by side, the future looks so gay,
Now we are allibied when we say.......
From this moment on, you for me dear
Only two for tea dear, from this moment on,
From this happy day, no more blue songs,
Only whoop dee doo songs,
From this moment on.
For you've got the love I need so much,
Got the skin I love to touch,
Got the arms to hold me tight,
Got the sweet lips to kiss me goodnight,
From this moment on, you and I, babe,
We'll be ridin' high, babe.
Every care is gone, from this moment on.
Georgia on my mind
(Stuard Gorrell / Hoagy Carmichael)
Georgia
Georgia, the whole day through
Just an old sweet song keeps Georgia on my mind
Georgia
Georgia, a song of you
Comes as sweet and clean as moonlight through the pines
Other arms reach ot to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see the roads leads back to you
Georgia
Georgia, no peace I find
Just and on song keeps Georgia on my mind

Girl from Ipanema, The
Tall and tan and young and lovely
The girl from Ipanema goes walking
And when she passes, each one she passes goes - ah
When she walks, she's like a samba
That swings so cool and sways so gentle
That when she passes, each one she passes goes - ooh
(Ooh) But I watch her so sadly
How can I tell her I love her
Yes I would give my heart gladly
But each day, when she walks to the sea
She looks straight ahead, not at me
Tall, (and) tan, (and) young, (and) lovely
The girl from Ipanema goes walking
And when she passes, I smile - but she doesn't see (doesn't see)
(She just doesn't see, she never sees me,...)
a beleza que nao e so minha
que tambem passa sozinha
ah. se ela soubesse que quando ela passa
o mundo sorrindo se enche de graca
e fica mais lindo por causa do amor...

English Translation
I am a stone flower
what to say from my longing heart
like sun if not on me
doesn't shine I am cold and colorless
I am a stone flower
what to say from my longing heart
like sun if not on me
doesn't shine I am cold and colorless
I'm all sighs and all pain
like a storm I'm full of dust
I'm all sighs and all pain
like a storm I'm full of dust
a drunken wind in the desert
lost and going in circles around you
if you don't fall on me like rain
and you don't know how I'm doing
I'll be losing my petals in two days
your stone heart is softening for me
I am a stone flower
what to say from my longing heart
Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen)
I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music do you?
It goes like this
The fourth,
The fifth,
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne and cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Baby I've been here before
I know this room I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you
I've seen your flag on the Marble Arch
Love is not a Victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Now Maybe there's a God above
But all I ever learned from love
was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
It's not a cry you can hear at night
It's not a pilgrim who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
There was a time when you let me know
What was real and going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And remember when I moved in you?
The Holy Dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
You say I took the name in vain
But I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light in every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
I did my best, it wasn't much,
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch,
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
HARD TIME KILLING FLOOR BLUES
Hard time here and everywhere you go
Times is harder than ever been before
And the people are driftin' from door to door
Can't find no heaven, I don't care where they go
Hear me tell you people, just before I go
These hard times will kill you just dry long so
Well, you hear me singin' my lonesome song
These hard times can last us so very long
If I ever get off this killin' floor
I'll never get down this low no more
No-no, no-no, I'll never get down this low no more
And you say you had money, you better be sure
'Cause these hard times will drive you from door to door
Sing this song and I ain't gonna sing no more
Sing this song and I ain't gonna sing no more
These hard times will drive you from door to door

Il N'y A Pas d'Amour Heureux
(George Brassens, Louis Aragon)
Mon bel amour mon cher amour ma déchirure
I Love Paris (Porter)

I love Paris in the fall

I'm beginning to see the light
(H.James/Ellington/J.Hodges/D.George)
I never cared much for moonlit skies
I never wink back at fireflies
But now that the stars are in your eyes
I'm beginning to see the light
I never went in for afterglow
Or candlelight on the mistletoe
But now when you turn the lamp down low
I'm beginning to see the light
Used to ramble through the park
Shadowboxing in the dark
Then you came and caused a spark
That's a four-alarm fire now
I never made love by lantern-shine
I never saw rainbows in my wine
But now that your lips are burning mine
I'm beginning to see the light
I Put a Spell on You
(Screamin' Jay Hawkins)
I put a spell on you
'Cause you're mine
You better stop the things you do
I ain't lyin'

You know I can't stand it
You're runnin' around
You know better daddy
I can't stand it cause you put me down
I put a spell on you
Because you're mine
You're mine
I love ya
I love you
I love you
I love you anyhow
And I don't care
if you don't want me
I'm yours right now
You hear me
I put a spell on you
Because you're mine

It's Oh So Quiet (Bjork)
It's, oh, so quiet
It's, oh, so still
You're all alone
And so peaceful until...
You fall in love
Zing boom
The sky above
Zing boom
Is caving in
Wow bam
You've never been so nuts about a guy
You wanna laugh you wanna cry
You cross your heart and hope to die
'Til it's over and then
It's nice and quiet
But soon again
Starts another big riot
You blow a fuse
Zing boom
The devil cuts loose
Zing boom
So what's the use
Wow bam
Of falling in love
It's, oh, so quiet
It's, oh, so still
You're all alone
And so peaceful until...
You ring the bell
Bim bam
You shout and you yell
Hi ho ho
You broke the spell
Gee, this is swell you almost have a fit
This guy is 'gorge' and I got hit
There's no mistake this is it
'Til it's over and then
It's nice and quiet
But soon again
Starts another big riot
You blow a fuse
Zing boom
The devil cuts loose
Zing boom
What's the use
Wow bam
Of falling in love
The sky caves in
The devil cuts loose
You blow blow blow blow your fuse
When you've fallen in love
ssshhhhh...
Just One of Those Things (Cole Porter)
It was just one of those things
Just one of those crazy flings
One of those bells that now and then rings
Just one of those things
It was just one of those nights
Just one of those fabulous flights
A trip to the moon on gossamer wings
Just one of those things
If we'd thought a bit before the end of it
When we started painting the town
We'd have been aware that our love affair
Was too hot not to cool down
So good-bye, dear, and amen
Here's hoping we meet now and then
It was great fun
But it was just one of those things
LES FEUILLES MORTES/AUTUMN LEAVES
(English lyrics by Johnny Mercer/French lyrics by Jacques Prevert
Music by Joseph Kosma]
The falling leaves
Drift by the window
The autumn leaves
Of red and gold
I see your lips
The summer kisses
The sun-burned hands
I used to hold
Since you went away
The days grow long
And soon I'll hear
Old winter's song
But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall
C'est une chanson
Qui nous resemble
Toi qui m'aimais
Et je t'aimais
Nous vivions tous
Les deux ensemble
Toi qui m'aimais
Moi qui t'aimais
Mais la vie separe
Ceux qui s'aiment
Tout doucement
Sans faire du bruit
Et la mer efface sur le sable
Les pas des amants desunis
Since you went away
The days grow long
And soon I'll hear
Old winter's song
But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall
LIKE SOMEONE IN LOVE
(Sarah Vaughan / BJÖRK)
Lately . . .
I find myself out gazin' at stars,
Hearing guitars,
Like someone in love . . .
Sometimes . . .
The things I do astound me,
Mostly . . .
Whenever you're around me . . .
Lately . . .
I seem to walk, as though I had wings,
Bump into things,
Like someone in love . . .
Each time I look at you,
I'm limp as a glove,
An' feelin' like someone in love . . .
< instrumental bridge >
I bump into things,
Like someone in love . . .
Each time I look at you,
I'm limp as a glove,
An' feelin' like someone in love . . .
LIVE TILL I DIE
I'm gonna live till I die
I'm gonna laugh stead of cry
I'm gonna take the town turn it upside down
I'm gonna live, live, live until I die
They're gonna say what a guy
I'm gonna play for the sky
Ain't gonna miss a thing, gonna have my fling
I'm gonna live live live until I die
Those blues I lay low, I'll make them stay low
They'll never trail over my head
I'll be a devil till I'm an angel
But until then Hallelujah
Gonna dance gonna fly
I'll take my chance riding high
Before my numbers up I'm gonna fill my cup
I'm gonna live, live, live until I die
Those blues I lay low,I'll make them stay low
They'll never trail over my head
I'll be a devil till I'm an angel
But until then Hallelujah
Gonna dance gonna fly
I'll take my chance riding high
Before my numbers up I'm gonna fill my cup
I'm gonna live, live, live, live until I die
Love for Sale (Cole Porter)
When the only sound in the empty street,
Is the heavy tread of the heavy feet
That belong to a lonesome cop
I open shop.
When the moon so long has been gazing down
On the wayward ways of this wayward town.
That her smile becomes a smirk,
I go to work.
Love for sale,
Appetising young love for sale.
Love that's fresh and still unspoiled,
Love that's only slightly soiled,
Love for sale.
Who will buy?
Who would like to sample my supply?
Who's prepared to pay the price,
For a trip to paradise?
Love for sale
Let the poets pipe of love
in their childish way,
I know every type of love
Better far than they.
If you want the thrill of love,
I've been through the mill of love;
Old love, new love
Every love but true love
Love for sale.
Appetising young love for sale.
If you want to buy my wares.
Follow me and climb the stairs
Love for sale.
Love for sale.
Mack the Knife
Oh the shark has pretty teeth dear
And he shows them pearly white
Just a jack-knife has Mac-heath dear
And he keeps it out of sight
When the shark bites with his teeth dear
Scarlet billows start to spread
Fancy gloves though wears Mac-heath dear
So there's not a trace of red
On the sidewalk Sunday morning
Lies a body oozing life
Someone's sneaking 'round the corner
Is the someone Mack the Knife
From a tugboat by the river
A cement bag's dropping down
The cement's just for the weight dear
Bet you Mackies's back in town
Louis Miller disappeared dear
After drawing out his cash
And Mac-heath spends like a sailo
Did our boy do something rash

O the line forms on the right dear
Now that Mackie's back in town

MACK THE KNIFE
Oh the shark has pretty teeth dear, and he shows them pearly white. Just a
jack-knife has Mack Heath dear, and he keeps it out of sight.
When the shark bites with his teeth dear, scarlet billows start to spread.
Fancy gloves do, wears Mack Heath dear, so there's not trace of red.
On the sidewalk Sunday morning ... lies a body oozing life. Someone's sneaking
around the corner. Is that someone Mack the Knife?
Yes from a tugboat by the river..... a cement bag drooping down. And the
cement's, for the weight dear. You know that Mack Heath's back in town.
Yeah Louis Miller disappeared dear, after drawing out all his cash. And Mack
Heath spends like a sailor. Did our boy do something rash?
Suki Todre, Jenny Diver, Lotti Lenya, sweet Lucy Brown. Yes the line forms on
the right dear, now that Mack Heath's back in town.

Und der Haifisch, der hat Zähne
Und die trägt er im Gesicht
Und MacHeath, der hat ein Messer
Doch das Messer sieht man nicht.
2. Ach, es sind des Haifischs Flossen
Rot, wenn dieser Blut vergießt!
Mackie Messer trägt 'n Handschuh
Drauf man keine Untat liest.
3. An der Themse grünem Wasser
Fallen plötzlich Leute um!
Es ist weder Pest noch Cholera
Doch es heißt: MacHeath geht um.
4. An 'nem schönen blauen Sonntag
Liegt ein toter Mann am Strand
Und ein Mensch geht um die Ecke
Den man Mackie Messer nannt.
5. Und Schmul Meier bleibt verschwunden
Und so mancher reiche Mann
Und sein Geld hat Mackie Messer
Dem man nichts beweisen kann.
6. Jenny Fowler ward gefunden
Mit 'nem Messer in der Brust
Und am Kai geht Mackie Messer
Der von allem nichts gewußt.
7. Wo ist Alfons Glite, der Fuhrherr?
Kommt das je ans Sonnenlicht?
Wer es immer wissen könnte
Mackie Messer weiß es nicht.
8. Und das große Feuer in Soho
Sieben Kinder und ein Greis
In der Menge Mackie Messer, den
Man nicht fragt und der nix weiß.
9. Und die minderjährige Witwe
Deren Namen jeder weiß
Wachte auf und war geschändet
Mackie, welches war dein Preis?
10. Und die Fische, sie verschwinden,
Doch zum Kummer des Gerichts
Man zitiert am End den Haifisch,
Doch der Haifisch weiß von nichts
11. Und er kann sich nicht erinnern
Und man kann nicht an ihn ran,
Denn ein Haifisch ist kein Haifisch
Wenn man nicht beweisen kann.
The Man I Love
(Gershwin)
Some day he'll come along,
The man I love
And he'll be big and strong,
The man I love
And when he comes my way
I'll do my best to make him stay.
He'll look at me and smile
I'll understand ;
And in a little while,
He'll take my hand ;
And though it seems absurd,
I know we both won't say a word
Maybe I shall meet him Sunday
Maybe Monday, maybe not ;
Still I'm sure to meet him one day
Maybe Tuesday will be my good news day
He'll build a little home
Just meant for two,
From which I'll never roam,
Who would - would you ?
And so all else above
I'm waiting for the man I love.
Many Rivers to Cross
(Jimmy Cliff, version as sung by Toni Childs)
Many rivers to cross but I can't seem to find my way over.
Wandering I am lost, as I travel alone and it's only my pride that keeps me alive.
I've been licked, washed up for years, and I merely survive because of my pride.
But my loneliness won't leave me alone
It's such a drag to be on your own
A woman left and she didn't say bye.
So I've got to survive.
Many rivers to cross, but just where to begin, I'm playing for time.
Many times I find myself thinking I've committed some dreadful crime.
Mercedes Benz (Janis Joplin)
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a color TV ?
Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me.
I wait for delivery each day until three,
So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a color TV ?
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a night on the town ?
I’m counting on you, Lord, please don’t let me down.
Prove that you love me and buy the next round,
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a night on the town ?
Everybody!
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends,
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
That’s it!

Allez, venez, Milord!
Vous asseoir à ma table;
Dame! Le ciel vous comblait:
Votre foulard de soie
Flottant sur vos épaules,
Vous aviez le beau rôle,
On aurait dit le roi...
Vous marchiez en vainqueur
Au bras d'une demoiselle
Mon Dieu!... Qu'elle était belle...
J'en ai froid dans le coeur...
Allez, venez, Milord!
Vous asseoir à ma table;
Allez, venez, Milord!
Vous avez l'air d'un môme!
Laissez-vous faire, Milord,
Venez dans mon royaume:
Je soigne les remords,
Je chante la romance,
Je chante les milords
Qui n'ont pas eu de chance!
Regardez-moi, Milord,
Vous n'm'avez jamais vue...
...Mais... vous pleurez, Milord?
Ça... j'l'aurais jamais cru!...
Eh ben, voyons, Milord!
Souriez-moi, Milord!
...Mieux qu' ça! Un p'tit effort...
Voilà, c'est ça!
Allez, riez, Milord!
Allez, chantez, Milord!
La-la-la...
Mais oui, dansez, Milord!
La-la-la... Bravo Milord!
La-la-la... Encore Milord!... La-la-la...
Miss Otis Regrets (she's unable to lunch today)
(Cole Porter)
Miss Otis regrets, she's unable to lunch today, madam,
Miss Otis regrets, she's unable to lunch today.
She is sorry to be delayed,
but last evening down in Lover's Lane she strayed, madam,
Miss Otis regrets, she's unable to lunch today.
When she woke up and found that her dream of love was gone, madam,
She ran to the man who had led her so far astray,
And from under her velvet gown,
She drew a gun and shot her love down, madam,
Miss Otis regrets, she's unable to lunch today.
When the mob came and got her and dragged from her the jail, madam,
They strung her upon the old willow across the way,
And the moment before she died,
She lifted up her lovely head and cried, madam......
Miss Otis regrets, she's unable to lunch today.
Miss Otis regrets, she's unable to lunch today
Misty
Look at me, I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree;
And I feel like I'm clingin' to a cloud,
I can' t understand
I get misty, just holding your hand.
Walk my way,
And a thousand violins begin to play,
Or it might be the sound of your hello,
That music I hear,
I get misty, the moment you're near.
Can't you see that you're leading me on?
And it's just what I want you to do,
Don't you notice how hopelessly I'm lost
That's why I'm following you.
On my own,
When I wander through this wonderland alone,
Never knowing my right foot from my left
My hat from my glove
I'm too misty, and too much in love.
Too misty,
And too much
In love.....
My Baby just Cares for Me
(Gus Kahn, Walter Donaldson)
My baby don't care for shows
My baby don't care for clothes
My baby just cares for me
My baby don't care for cars and races
My baby don't care for high-tone places
Liz Taylor is not his style
And even Lana Turner's smile
Is somethin' he can't see
My baby don't care who knows
My baby just cares for me
Baby, my baby don't care for shows
And he don't even care for clothes
He cares for me
My baby don't care
For cars and races
My baby don't care for
He don't care for high-tone places
Liz Taylor is not his style
And even Liberace's smile
Is something he can't see
Is something he can't see
I wonder what's wrong with baby
My baby just cares for
My baby just cares for
My baby just cares for me
Original lyric
My baby don't care for shows
My baby don't care for clothes
My baby just cares for me
My baby don't care for cars and races
My baby don't care for high-tone places
Liz Taylor is not his style
And even Lana Turner's smile
is somethin' he can't see
My baby don't care who knows it
My baby just cares for me
My baby don't care for shows
And he don't even care for clothes
My baby just cares for me
My baby don't care for cars and races
My baby don't care for
he don't care for high-tone places
I wonder what's wrong with baby
My baby just cares for
Just says his prayers for
My baby just cares for me
Alternatve version:
My baby don't care for shows, my baby don't care for clothes
My baby just cares for me!
My baby don't care for, cars and races,
My baby don't care for, high tall places.
Sharon Stone is not his style, and even Cindy Crawford's smile
Is somethin' he can't see.
My baby don't care who knows it,
My baby just cares for me.
My baby dont' care for shows, and he don't even care for clothes,
My baby just cares for me.
My baby don't care for, cars and races,
My baby don't care for, he dont' care for high tall places
Sharon Stone is not his style, and even Cindy Crawford's smile
Is somethin' he can't see,
Is somethign he can't see
I wonder what's wrong with baby!
My baby just cares for,
he just says his prayers for
My baby just cares for me!
My Funny Valentine
Behold the way our fine feathered friend,
His virtue doth parade
Thou knowest not, my dim-witted friend
The picture thou hast made
Thy vacant brow, and thy tousled hair
Conceal thy good intent
Thou noble upright truthful sincere,
And slightly dopey gent
You’re my funny valentine,
Sweet comic valentine,
You make me smile with my heart.
Your looks are laughable, un-photographable,
Yet, you’re my favorite work of art.
Is your figure less than greek?
Is your mouth a little weak?
When you open it to speak, are you smart?
But, don’t change a hair for me.
Not if you care for me.
Stay little valentine, stay!
Each day is valentine’s day
Is your figure less than greek?
Is your mouth a little weak?
When you open it to speak, are you smart?
But, don’t change a hair for me.
Not if you care for me.
Stay little valentine, stay!
Each day is valentine’s day
My heart belongs to Daddy
While tearing off a game of golf
I may make a play for the caddy
But when I do, I don't follow though
'Cause my heart belongs to Daddy
If I invite a boy some night
To dine on my fine finnan haddie
I just adore his asking for more
But my heart belongs to Daddy
Yes my heart belongs to Daddy
So I simply couldn't be bad.
Yes, my heart belongs to daddy
Da-da Da-da-da Da-da-da--ad
So I want to warn you laddie,
Though I think you're perfectly swell
That my heart belongs to Daddy
'Cause my daddy he treats it so well.
[pic]
MY HEART BELONGS TO DADDY (Cole Porter) ("Leave It to Me")
I used to fall in love with all those boys who maul refined ladies,
But now I tell each young gazelle to go to hell, I mean Hades.
For since I've come to care for such a sweet millionaire.
While tearing off a game of golf, I may make a play for the caddy.
But when I do, I don't follow through, cause my heart belongs to daddy.
If I invite a boy some night to dine on my fine finnan haddie.
I just adore his asking for more but my heart belongs to daddy.
Yes, my heart belongs to daddy, so I simply couldn't be bad!
Yes, my heart belongs to daddy, da-da-da, da-da-da, da-daddy-ad!
So I want to warn you, daddy, though I think you're perfectly swell,
That my heart belongs to daddy cause my daddy he treats it so well!
He treats it and treats it and then he repeats it, yes, daddy, he treats it so well.
Saint Patrick's Day, although I may be seen wearing green with a paddy,
I'm always sharp when playing the harp, cause my heart belongs to daddy.
Though other dames at football games may long for a strong undergraddy.
I never dream of making the team, 'cause my heart belongs to daddy.
Yes, my heart belongs to daddy, so I simply couldn't be bad!
Yes, my heart belongs to daddy, da-da-da, da-da-da, da-daddy-ad!
So, I want to warn you, laddie, though I simply hate to be frank,
That I can't be mean to daddy, cause my da-da-daddy might spank!
In matters artistic, he's not modernistic, so da-da-daddy might spank.
New York, New York
Start spreading the news, I'm leaving today
I want to be a part of it - New York, New York
These vagabond shoes, are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it - New York, New York
I want to wake up in a city, that doesn't sleep
And find I'm king of the hill - top of the heap
These little town blues, are melting away
I'm gonna make a brand new start of it - in old New York
If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you - New York, New York
Night and Day
Like the beat beat beat of the tom-tom
When the jungle shadows fall
Like the tick tick tock of the stately clock
As it stands against the wall
Like the drip drip drip of the raindrops
When the summer shower is through
So a voice within me keeps repeating you, you, you
Night and day, you are the one
Only you beneath the moon AND under the sun
Whether near to me, or far
It's no matter darling where you are
I think of you
NIGHT AND DAY, DAY AND NIGHT, why is it so
That this longing for you follows wherever I go
In the roaring traffic's boom
In the silence of my lonely room
I think of you
NIGHT AND DAY, NIGHT AND DAY
Under the hide of me
There's an oh such a hungry yearning burning inside of me
And ITS torment won't be through
'TIL you let me spend my life making love to you
Day and night, night and day
Old MacDonald
Ol' Mac Donald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O
And on this farm there was a chick
The prettiest chick I know
With a little curve here and a little curve there
This chick she had curves everywhere
Ol' Mac Donald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O
And oh this chick she had to walk, E-I-E-I-O
And how this walk would drive 'em wild swinging to and 'fro
With a little wiggle here and a little wiggle there
Man this chick had wiggles to spare
Ol' Mac Donald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O
When she went walking into town, E-I-E-I-O
The local gentry popped their eyes
Tarnation what a show
With a goldang here and a goshdarn there
Heavens to Betsy I do declare
Ol' Mac Donald had a farm E-I-E-I-O
There was a barn dance Saturday night, E-I-E-I-O
And the fellows came from miles around
Just to see her dosey-do
With a promenade here and a promenade there
At a square dance, boy, this chick was no square
Ol' MacDonald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O
I used to be a travelling man, E-I-O,
Until I hit MacDonald's place
Things were mighty slow
With a little chick here and a little chick there
I didn't have a real chick anywhere
Ol' MacDonald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O
This farmer's daughter knocked me out, E-I-E-I-O
I asked MacDonald for her hand
And pop, he hollered "Go!"
With a little curve here and a little wiggle there
A goldang here and a goshdarn there
A dosey-do here and a promenade there
Got my own private county fair
'Cause ol' MacDonald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O
Quizás, quizás, quizás
Siempre que te pregunto,
qué, cuándo, cómo y dónde,
tú siempre me respondes,
quizás, quizás, quizás.
Y así pasan los días,
y yo desesperando,
y tú, tú contestando,
quizás, quizás, quizás.
Estás perdiendo el tiempo,
pensando, pensando,
por lo que tú más quieras,
hasta cuando, hasta cuando.
Y así pasan los días,
y yo desesperando,
y tú, tú contestando,
quizás, quizás, quizás.
Estás perdiendo el tiempo,
pensando, pensando,
por lo que tú más quieras,
hasta cuando, hasta cuando.
Y así pasan los días,
y yo desesperando,
y tú, tú contestando,
quizás, quizás, quizás.
'Round Midnight
It begins to tell,
'round midnight, midnight.
I do pretty well, till after sundown,
Suppertime I'm feelin' sad;
But it really gets bad,
'round midnight.
Memories always start 'round midnight
Haven't got the heart to stand those memories,
When my heart is still with you,
And ol' midnight knows it, too.
When a quarrel we had needs mending,
Does it mean that our love is ending.
Darlin' I need you, lately I find
You're out of my heart,
And I'm out of my mind.
Let our hearts take wings'
'round midnight, midnight
Let the angels sing,
for your returning.
Till our love is safe and sound.
And old midnight comes around.
Feelin' sad,
really gets bad
Round.....Round.......Round....Mid.....night......

Sentimental Journey
Gonna take a sentimental journey
Gonna set my heart at ease
Gonna make a sentimental journey
To renew old memories.
Got my bag, I got my reservation,
Spent each dime I could afford.
Like a child in wild anticipation,
Long to hear that "All Aboard".
Seven, that's the time we leave, at seven.
I'll be waiting up for heaven
Counting every mile of railroad track that takes me back.
Never thought my heart could be so yearny.
Why did I decide to roam?
Gonna take a sentimental journey,
Sentimental journey home.
Temptation
------Tom Waits
Rusted brandy in a diamond glass
everything is made from dreams
time is made from honey slow and sweet
only the fools know what it means
temptation, temptation, temptation
oh, temptation, temptation, I can't resist
I know that she is made of smoke
but I've lost my way
she knows that I am broke
so that I must play
temptation, temptation, temptation
oh, whoa, temptation, temptation, I can't resist
Dutch pink and Italian blue
she is waiting there for you
my will has disappeared
now my confusion's oh so clear
temptation, temptation, temptation
whoa, whoa, temptation, temptation
The beat
Drums keep pounding rhythm to the brave
La de la de deee
La de la de daaaa
When you have reached the edge by far
History has turned the page by far
We still wanna hear a brand new thing uh huh
We still need a song to sing uh huh
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
Drums keep pounding rhythm to the brave
La de la de deee
La de la de daaaa
Love is the first thing, last thing on my mind
From tonight till the end of time
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes
And the beat goes
And the beat goes on
Drums keep pounding rhythm to the brave
La de la de deee
La de la de daaaa
We Still move to a rhythm just like this
We Still dream of sharing our first Kiss
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on
World keeps turning faster everyday (everyday)
We still wannal dance the night away
And the beat goes on (and the beat goes on)
And the beat goes on (etc.)
Veinte Años
Que te importe que te amo
Si tu no me quieres ya?
El amor que ya ha pasado
No se debe recordar.
Fui la ilusion de tu vida
Un dia lejano ya
Hoy represento el pasado
Hoy me puedo conformar
Hoy represento el pasado
Hoy me puedo conformar.
Si las cosas que uno quiere
Se pudieran alcanzar
Tu me quisieras lo mismo
Que veinte anos atras.
Con qu tristeza miramos
un amor que so nos va - es un pedazo del
alma que se arranca sin piedad.
Work Song (Nina Simone)
Breaking rocks out here on the chain gang
Breaking rocks and serving my time
Breaking rocks out here on the chain gang
Because they done convicted me of crime
Hold it steady right there while I hit it
well reckon that ought to get it
been
working and working
but I still got so terribly far to go
I commited crime Lord I needed
Crime of being hungry and poor
I left the grocery store man bleeding (breathing?)
When they caught me robbing his store
Hold it steady right there while I hit it
Well reckon that ought to get it
been
working and working
but I still got so terribly far to go
I heard the judge say five years
On chain-gang you gonna go
I heard the judge say five years labor
I heard my old man scream "Lordy, no!"
Hold it right there while I hit it
well reckon that ought to get it
been
working and working
but I still got so terribly far to go
Gonna see my sweet honey bee
Gonna break this chain off to run
Gonna lay down somewhere shady
Lord I sure am hot in the sun
Hold it right there while I hit it
well reckon that ought to get it
been
workin' and workin'
been
workin' and slavin' an'workin' and workin'
but I still got so terribly far to go
