“You know that those rulers love to show their power over the people. And their important leaders love to use all their authority over the people. But it should not be that way with you. Whoever wants to be your leader must be your servant. Whoever wants to be first must serve the rest of you like a slave. Follow my example: Even the Son of Man did not come for people to serve him. He came to serve others and to give his life to save many people.”

The Church Covenant
Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter covenant with one another, as one body in Christ. We engage therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations. We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger, to abstain from the sale and use of intoxicating drink as a beverage, and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Saviour. We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Savior, to secure it without delay. We moreover engage that when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word. And now unto Him, who brought again from the dead, our Lord Jesus, be Power and Glory forever. Amen

Know Your Gifts
(excerpts from Ray Stedman, “Open Your Gifts, Daily Devotion © 2006 by Ray Stedman Ministries.)
Paul in his letter to the church of Ephesus, says in Eph. 4:7, “he has given each one of us a special gift.” Everyone, every believer has received a GIFT from God to be used in His Kingdom to show others who He is. As no one person has all the gifts, we, members of His body are to come together; work together and share our gifts with one another to accomplish great things for our Father. It is in our coming together and using our gifts is how the Church operates and demonstrates power and influence our communities and world. But to demonstrate His power and influence our world, everyone must know what their spiritual gift is. For the body to function well, each member operates effectively and give itself to the task they were designed for. Paul reminds us that the secret of the operation of the church is that each Christian knows first, that they have a gift and second, are working with our gift(s) faithfully and fruitfully.
It is our responsibility to recognize and fulfill our gift. If you are a believer, you have a spiritual gift. The church begins to live and exercise its impact and influence in the world when we begin to exercise our gift. The question is, do you know what your gift is? What is the gift God has given to you since you became a Christian? If you do know your gift, are you growing and developing your gift to a greater impact in the world for our God? The growth of our church and the influence our church can have in our community depends on how you answer these questions. Moreover, your own joy and fulfillment as a Christian and a believer depends on how you answer these questions. Therefore, take the time to know the gifts God has given you and take the time to grow and develop your gifts. There’s a world waiting and depending on you.
