▪ America's Service Locator for Local One-Stop Career Centers -- Did you know that all over the country there are One-Stop Career Centers ready, willing and able to help “returning citizens” and anyone who is unemployed or underemployed. To find a Center near you, go to and enter your zip code. These are federally funded Centers. There is no cost to you for these services.

We visited a Center in Columbia Maryland and were so impressed with the facility and the quality of the counselors. Computers, telephones, fax machines, Xerox machines and counselors were available to the clients. With 60 other job seekers, we attended an all day workshop which covered setting employment goals, learning job search strategies, how to create and tailor your resume and interview techniques. We learned that only about 20% of the available jobs are ever posted. The other 80% can be found through the important skill of networking.

We also learned about available assessment tools, internet sources of information and jobs, and other special offerings available at the Center. The Professional Outplacement Assistance Center provides high quality outplacement services to executive, professional, technical, managerial and scientific works. After a two-day JUMPSTART program, individual counseling is available along with affinity groups.

Other special programs were available for Veterans and disabled individuals/. Training assistance may also be available for all categories, pending eligibility, funding, and labor market demand.

Spread the word to all who need to know. These One-Stop Career Centers are absolutely the place to go for the job seeker!
