Receives Workforce Development and Education Grant from Bank of America Charitable Foundation Cooper City, FLA.– Learning for Success, Inc. today announced that it has been named a recipient of The Bank of America Charitable Foundation’s 2016 workforce development and education grant. The grant is part of a more than $525,000 collective investment in support workforce development and education programs across South Florida.Founded in 2002 by John Casbarro, Learning for Success, Inc. (LFS), creates partnerships involving businesses, other organizations, and schools. LFS manages the Kids and the Power of Work (KAPOW) program in South Florida. KAPOW brings volunteers into schools, and students into the workplace, to help them connect their school experiences to the real world. To date, LFS has brought the KAPOW program into 96 schools in South Florida, and has engaged more than 142,000 students. Bank of America’s grant will help Learning for Success, Inc. to specifically fund the KAPOW program in 62 elementary and middle schools from the Keys to Deerfield Beach, serving more than 6,000 students this year.For years, Bank of America has invested in South Florida’s workforce development and education infrastructure, helping individuals and families build better money habits and find pathways out of poverty. In addition, the grant provides small businesses with technical assistance and support to help them thrive. This year alone in Miami-Dade County, the grants will impact 89,338 individuals. “It is crucial to provide individuals in South Florida access to education and career training so they can earn a living wage and build better money habits in order to achieve long-term success. Through the workforce development and education grant, Bank of America is making a lasting impact in our community and we are honored to be a recipient,” said John Casbarro, President of Learning For Success. “Bank of America provides a great example of the potential of corporate social responsibility with this award and a model for investing in nonprofits who are serving the critical needs of those in their local communities.”Through its Kids and the Power of Work (KAPOW) program, Learning for Success recruits volunteers from businesses and organizations to teach elementary students about work, through lessons that help them discover different jobs, what it takes to do them, and how what they are learning in school can be used in those jobs. The lessons are also about success skills - like communication, teamwork and positive work habits - that are necessary to be a success in any job.
