This year, PALTA collected donations for Reel Thanx. Reel Thanx is a 501c3 non-profit organization based out of Midland, Texas who rely solely on the support of sponsors and donors. Their mission statement is “To honor our soldiers for their patriotism, bravery and love of country by getting them back to nature for nurture. Taking them fishing so they can focus on what they can do, not what they no longer can. Finally, to inspire bass clubs around the country to seek out these heroes in local hospitals and take them fishing.” Since its inception in 2007, Reel Thanx has brought in over 250 wounded heroes through their Soldier Outreach Program. Soldiers selected from specific criteria are chosen from many different military bases nationwide to take part in one of four fishing trips a year. In addition to providing fishing trips to active duty and retired heroes from recent conflicts, they also provide Reel Wives retreat weekends for their spouses, as well as Reel Thanx Vietnam trips for our heroes from wars past. The PALTA Board generously matched 100% of the $1,120 donation given by PALTA members, making the total donation to Reel Thanx $2,240, roughly the cost for one vet to go fishing with Reel Thanx.Other ItemsPALTA now accepts PayPal and has a card reader for electronic payments for luncheons and seminars (member pays PayPal fee if paying electronically).
