HicksFam Family Camping Equipment Essentials ChecklistsThis is a basic checklist of camping equipment, separated into numbered boxes. We label the boxes and then check the items into the box before we leave for our camp. We then re-check when we pack up.The list isn’t exhaustive, and you may wish to adjust it to your own requirements. We recommend laminating the list once you have settled on what you require. I have listed examples of products that we actually use. Obviously, it’s your choice whether or not to buy them. There is a lot on the list and you’ll need to consider not taking certain items depending on your vehicle space. Perhaps consider splitting the kit between family or friends if you regularly camp as a group. You can find a printable checklist on the final page or edit it to suit your own requirements.Box 1 – Kitchen hardwareCutlery Set(you can buy sets in containers from B&M for ?7.99 or online)ExamplePint GlassesWine GlassesStraight tumblers (strong)We used some fairly strong glasses from Amazon. Consider plastic beakers for young children. The glasses we use are commercial and therefore strong.ExamplePlatesThere are some really nice unbreakable plastic sets on AmazonExampleServing plates(as above)ExampleSide plates(as above)ExampleBowls(as above)ExampleSmall Mixing BowlHandy for salads, rice dishes, or…mixing!Coffee MugsChopping boardLarge KnifeWe use a Santoku knife as we find it’s great for a range of uses.ExampleSharp ScissorsYou’ll be surprised how often you need them!Cooking utensil setPretty obvious – consider bamboo if you’re worried about plasticCooking TongsVery useful – we prefer plastic ends to prevent scratches to non-stick pansExampleVegetable PeelerFire BlanketKeep near cooking area. Always cook outside. Never use a BBQ indoors.ExampleRubbish BagsTin openerGas LighterExampleFirst Aid Kit and basic medicationThis kit includes an instant cool pack which is excellent in the event of sprain. Place around tent. Excellent for lighting during the night and waterproofExampleGrab HooksThese give you so much scope for hanging lights, towels, jumpers and all sorted of other items. Really useful!ExampleRechargeable solar lantern (with charging lead)Be very careful when buying these. Don’t scrimp. The check lanterns never last and the USB sockets are usually the first thing to break. Get a quality example or visit your nearest camping shop to check the built quality.ExampleCollapsible Broom For cleaning the inside of the tentDustpan and brushMaybe just take this and forget the broomCollapsible washing basketTo carry dirty washing up to the sinkExampleWashing up bowlFor washing up – or combine with aboveExampleFly spraySpray inside the tent in the summer 15 minutes before bed to get rid of annoying flies and mosquitoes during the night.ExampleInsect repellentMosquitos love camp sites! Smidge That Midge is very good (see the example link). We also wear Mosquito bands in the summer, but these get mixed reviews.ExampleSaucepan setWe don’t take a set – we just take 1 large deep pan and 1 frying pan. You can cook almost everything with them including fry-ups, stews, pasta, bolognaise, slow-cooked dishes, etc.ExampleSun protectionNever hurts to have a spare container in case you forget to pack.Anti-bacterial gelToilet rollYou’d be surprised how often communal toilets run out.In the Peg BagPegsSpare pegs!Pegs break. It happens.Spare guy lineMallet or small lump hammerSame cam sites are on very hard ground. You’ll need this sooner or later.ExamplePuncture repair kits for SIMS/air tentWe highly recommend Tenacious Tape. I buy the best I can for the money – heavy duty large pegs. My brother-in-law uses a cordless electric drill on threaded pegs. Expensive, but he never breaks a peg and he never has a problem getting them in the ground or back out again.SIM’s: Self Inflating Mat. Read reviews and go to camping shops to see them in person. You may also want to consider a camping bed if you struggling to get up from the floor.AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST – DON’T FORGET TO PACK THE TENT!!!See the final 3 pages of this document for the tick-lists.Box 1 – Kitchen hardwareCutlery SetPint GlassesWine GlassesStraight tumblers (strong)PlatesServing platesSide platesBowlsSmall Mixing BowlCoffee MugsChopping boardLarge KnifeSharp ScissorsCooking utensil setCooking TongsVegetable PeelerFire BlanketRubbish BagsTin openerGas LighterFirst Aid Kit and basic medicationGas Whistle KettleKitchen RollWet wipesWaiters FriendWashing up liquidTea towelsDishclothes/sponge/brushSpare lighter gasBox 2 – Cleaning, Lighting, etcExternal Solar Lights (or solar fairy lights)Grab HooksRechargeable solar lantern (with charging lead)Collapsible Broom Dustpan and brushCollapsible washing basketWashing up bowlFly sprayInsect repellentSaucepan setSun protectionAnti-bacterial gelToilet rollIn the Peg BagPegsSpare guy lineMallet or small lump hammerPuncture repair kits for SIMS/air tentSmall crow bar Gaffer/duct tapeBall of stringUniversal screwdriverIn the Car/Trailer/Your bagElectric Hook Up cable or leisure battery/powerpackTentDrinking Water ContainerCoolboxSIM or bedPillowsTowelsSleeping BagsClothingCoatsWaterproof bootsGas or Halogen Stove/hobGas supply pipe and regulatorChairsTableUSB Power bankBluetooth speakerTent CarpetTent FootprintWindbreakWash bagCooking foodsBBQ ................
