?(Preop letter for pediatric surgical patients at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore)Lifebridge Health is committed to protecting your child during his/her upcoming surgery on __________.We have policies to make sure that your child’s surgery goes smoothly and safely during the Covid 19 pandemic. We thank you in advance for being our partner in keeping your child, yourself and everyone else safe.Surgery must always be delayed for anyone with a fever or recent cold symptoms, because anesthesia can make such an illness get much worse. This is especially true for Covid19. It is not safe for your child to have anesthesia and surgery until they are well again and at least 14 days after symptoms. We will help you reschedule, if needed. If someone in your household has just been sick, you or your child may have caught it, so it is safest to wait until 14 days after their infection, too.Your child, the parent or guardian who will come to Sinai, and everyone in your household must be very careful in the 14 days before your child’s surgery. We need for you and your child to self-quarantine/isolate for the full 14 days prior to surgery. This means that the child and traveling parent or guardian must stay in your home with no visitors. Everyone else in the home should try not to leave the home too. If someone else in the home must leave for a necessity like food or work, they need to avoid crowds, public transportion, gatherings, and use masks and very careful hand washing. If you must fly, please mask, clean all surfaces you touch, sanitize your hands and follow CDC recommendations to lower your risk of becoming infected. be sure we are being as safe as possible for you, your child, and everyone else, we ask that the child and traveling parent or guardian be tested for Covid 19 in the week before surgery. This can be arranged with your family physician (Labcorp: 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), NAA test 139900 PRIORITY). Carry the negative results with you during travel. Be very careful on your trip to Maryland and plan to bring what you will need along the way. This will decrease the number of stops you will have to make along the way. Also, make sure you wear a mask and wash your hands frequently if you must get in and out of the car. Also, parents or guardians must keep a log of the child’s temperature and note any symptoms in the 3-day period leading up to surgery. A paper log is included in packet.Sinai is allowing one adult parent or guardian of a pediatric patient to accompany a child for surgery and rehabilitation. The parent must be able to pass visitor screening to stay with the child. They should stay in the room with the child, or, in the case of a 2-parent team, the parent who is not with the child must remain isolated and careful to avoid exposures until switch-off.To summarize, the following steps are required before surgery at Sinai:The child and accompanying parent or guardian must self-isolation for 14 days prior to surgery. The child and accompanying parent or guardian must have a covid test the week before surgery and bring the results with them to Sinai.Self-isolation and monitoring of child’s temperature twice a day for 3 days before surgeryThank you for making your child’s surgery go well.___________________________________________ (surgeon’s signature ................
